Great warm up facilities

I was pleased to see that the round of golf came with a few range balls included. I think this is a nice touch that prevents the errant shot on the first tee and improves the pace of play and morale during the round. There were also excellent chipping and putting greens to practice on. The practice green was immaculate and matched the condition and speed of the greens on the course. Our twosome finished in 4.25 hrs with very little waiting on the tees. We had a very enjoyable round and I will be back.

Covid-19 Experience

This was my first time playing here since Covid-19 precautions have been put in place. The clubhouse was restricted to 4 guests at a time, plexiglass shield was in place at all registers, cart keys were soaking in sanitizing solution before being given to golfer, we had no problem getting individual golf carts for our foursome, the restaurant was take-out only and the patio was closed, the carts had been sufficiently cleaned between uses. All staff that we talked to were friendly and helpful. The starter told us that they have been packed for the last 2 months, but the course was in good shape. I felt like the greens were moderate speed with no noticeable ball marks. We had an afternoon tee-time and the pace of play was really good. We aren't the fastest golfers, but everyone was moving along at a good pace without waiting a long time on the tee-box. We finished 18 holes in about 3.5 hours. I consider Wil-mar to be my home course and I will definitely be coming back and bringing friends. Thanks for maintaining a great place to have fun in the outdoors during the Covid-19 quarantine!

Surprising new updates since I was last here

I hadn't been here since the new clubhouse was opened. Let's just say I'm glad they had signed pointing me to the Pro Shop because this place is huge. The carts are new since I had been here as well, they are the same type of cart as before and still have the ball and club washer as well as the foot cleaner, but they now have a tablet mounted in the center that tells distance to the center of the green and can be used to keep score. They are also GPS tracked, so if you try to drive the cart somewhere that you shouldn't it will warn you and then disable the cart so you can't go any further. There was one place on the cart path on the Hole 6 where the cart started to disable despite being on the cart path. We did make it up the hill without too much fuss but it goes to show that GPS isn't always super accurate.
One thing that I was a bit disappointed about was that Hole 8 was completely close for bunker construction. They are in the process of redoing the sand in all of their bunkers. The places with new sand looked really nice, bright white and the sand was powdery fine. Very easy to lose a ball in if you aren't watching carefully. Hole 1 also is under bunker reconstruction, but was still open for play.
The rest of the course was in great condition. My brother works for a nice private course in Charlotte and every time I golf with him he is showing me stuff that would never fly at his course, and the only thing that he had to complain about yesterday was that the grounds crew were out watering the greens while we were shooting for the greens.
All in all, we had a lot of fun playing this course and was well worth the money I spent on Golf Now. I don't know that I would be happy paying full price to play here, but the course is in great condition minus the construction.

Relaxing but bland course

This was my first time playing here, but I had a good time. All grass was dead except for the greens as can be expected of most places this time of year. On the bright side, I didn't have the deep rough issue. In my opinion, there is not a lot of interesting stuff going on at this course. All holes are relatively straight with bunkers few and far between. There are not a lot of hazards to lose balls on. I only lost one on the front 9 and that is really good for me. I actually liked the fact that there were so many walkers on the course; to me, it makes the course feel less rushed and more enjoyable.

With all that being said, I think this would be a great course for beginners and more experienced players to shake off the rust from not playing for a while. The course played pretty short and today at least, the greens were really slow. That could be due to the rain yesterday, but it is probably like that most of the time. Another plus for players with errant drives is that there are no houses bordering the holes.

I would go back here again if the price was right. If I were going to spend more money, I would go somewhere else.

Very well maintained course

This was my first time playing here. My initial impressions were a bit poor. We had a 2:18pm tee time and we were not able to get on the course until 2:50 due to the poor quality of their carts. None of them will hold enough charge to play 18 holes, and few will even make 9. We had to wait until carts came back in from the morning tournament before we could go out. They were very willing to switch out carts after the first 9. I will say that the employees said they were getting new carts next week, so this shouldn't be a problem too much longer.

Enough of my rant and now to the good parts. The course was in great condition. You can tell that they really try to take care of everything from the tee box to the green and everything in between. My brother, who was playing with me, is majoring in Turf Management and he was constantly complementing the quality of their turf and how well maintained it was.

Many other comments mentioned that the pace of play was a bit slow. I feel like that depends on what your pace of play is. Maybe my group was just behind a fast group and in front of a slow group, because we didn't feel any pressure from behind and didn't have to wait more than a minute or two on the tee box.

All in all, I will be going here again soon, but maybe calling ahead next time to see if they are running behind.
