The Quarry Golf Club
Played On 05/28/2023Terrible Conditions, slow play
Love Huntley courses for their unique designs and was looking forward to playing this course as it is top rated. Conditions were horrendous. Fairways brown and rock hard. Green complexes same except for ones near the clubhouse. Tee boxes a mess. Pace of play non existent. We were 15 mins off pace after first hole. Got hit up into on second hole while standing in the fairway to make matters worse. This is a hard course so hitting fairways is imperative. Even a good shot couldn't hold the burned out fairways which played like cement and "rough" was more like a waste area. Driving range a shambles. Really a shame because layout is stunning and clubhouse really nice.
Fox Den Golf Course
Played On 05/24/2020No Rain Checks
Had always thought Fox den represented a good value for the money that was the case at least until this year when Greens fees are sky high, now at $39 after 2 on weekends and holidays. There are certainly better courses out there for that kind of money. Condition were uneven, rough is super long and nobody fixes ball marks here. Regardless, pace of play was a factor as it took our 3some 2:45 to play nine. In front of us was what appeared to be 2 foursomes playing together and slowly. Behind us two high school or college kids asking us to play through, driving around in their cart during our t shots and hitting up on us. At one point words were exchanged. They skipped us and when we made the turn the starter had put them in front of us. Now we had a big back up at 10, 11, etc. Not wanting to spend 6 hours playing we bailed and asked for a rain check to which we were angrily directed to “read the sign, NO RAIN CHECKS”. That’s not how you treat loyal customers playing by the rules. Other patrons who heard our exchange with the attendant were sympathetic. We will be playing elsewhere.
Tanglewood Club
Played On 10/29/2019Last of the season
Great last round at Tanglewood. Fairways and greens in great shape, traps not so great but sort of to be expected this time of year. Really a nice challenging course with varied looks, subtle elevation changes and water on some holes. Laying up strategically is a must to keep high numbers of your card. Lots of leaves on the fairways but tis the season.
Raccoon Hill Golf Club
Played On 07/28/2019Concrete Fairways
Dried out rock hard fairways. Bunkers that play like the cart path, a layout that makes no sense. Ponds filled with algae. Only three sets of tees. No yardage signs near tee boxes. Tee boxes so hard you can barely get the tee in the ground. Kind of like playing in your neighbor’s yard if the had put in his own course. I’m not a golf snob by any means but really? Other courses in the area are in much better shape.
$39 is a low price compared to most f the country be thankful you are in Ohio
