Torched faairways and slowwwww.

This one is one of my desert favorites but they've had some sort of issue over the summer. There are some major areas of turf that got torched over the summer. The greens were pretty slow as well. I've been playing winter golf here for years and fully expect a good overseeing to remedy the bare areas on the fairways and around the greens.

But they seriously needed a marshall out there today. It was windy, granted, but, the group two ahead of us was a hole behind by the third hole! Then the group ahead of us...OMG!! They were two holes behind that other slow group by the 5th tee and they parked their carts next to every green. On 8 and 12 green the drove ON THE GREEN when going to the next hole.

Please folks, get a marshall on the course on a busy weekend. Every tee time was filled today. That's a lot of people out there being inconvenienced by the 8 o'clock group playing like that.

I just hope that they get that course back in shape for winter. It's such a gem to play in season.

Great track.

One of the beat values in the OC. Always one of the highest rated spots on golfnow yet a great bargain for the area. Never have had a problem with pace of play either. Bring your A game because if your even a little bit loose you're gonna have some real problems on the very tight back nine. Tees and greens in excellent shape, some sketchy spots and crabgrass on the fairways though. It could use a good overseed. Also a few fairways are roped off for carts which can really suck. Overall this is a tough track in good shape with a good pace of play on a weekend. Highly recommend.

No longer can recommend this course

At one time this was one of the premier courses in the IE. Originally built and managed by the Southern California section of the PGA it was a gem. After changing hands a couple of times it began a downhill slide that was briefly interrupted when it was purchased by the Morongo Band of Mission Indians. They put some money into the course and brought it close to its original glory in an attempt to make it part of the total resort package offered by the Morongo Casino and Spa. Since taking over and spending all that money and effort to bring the course into shape it has gone downhill. The redesign of the clubhouse was an unnecessary waste of time and resources. What they SHOULD have been putting money into was the greens. They are deplorable right now. Bare spots where it looks like someone took a divot out of the green. Weeds have completely taken over many of the greens. And the course is wet. I mean WET. It was so wet today (despite having no rain here in weeks) that there was mushrooms growing literally everywhere. Tee boxes full of mushrooms. Mushrooms in the fairways. Mushrooms on the greens. Mushrooms in the bunkers. And I will refuse to call them "sand bunkers" because there is no, and I mean NO, sand! Many of my shots from the fairways splashed me with water/mud. Both of these tracks are great layouts and very challenging. I have to admit that I LOVE these courses. But I cannot in good conscience recommend this to anyone until they get their house in order. Put your money into the course. GOLF is the draw to a GOLF COURSE...not the clubhouse amenities. For Pete's sake...their golf shop is literally 1/3 of the size of the small mom and pop golf shop in your local strip mall. I'm BEGGING you Morongo Indians to put the $$ into the course maintenance and repair. Those GREENS man!! Ughh!!

When it's breezy....

Hit it easy. Didn't help me today. There was steady 15-20 mph winds with gusts to 30. Very trying day on a nice track. The course was quite wet as well. Virtually every hit fairway left a big chunk of mud on the ball. Greens were a bit hard as well but they putted very true. This is a nice track in the desert but it can eat you up when the wind is up. But course maintenance is great, the people are friendly and helpful, the fees are a great value and their off-course amenities are first rate. I'd recommend this to anyone. Just don't have any misconceptions that you're going to shoot your handicap if the wind is up.

Great day in the desert

The.course is in perfect shape as usual. The weather was great on a day that they were predicting rain it was dry and warm. We got through 18 holes in exactly 4 hours on a Saturday. This course is one of the great desert values and is what makes Southern California a mecca for golf. Come on out and play this one. You'll never regret it.

Great track

A tough desert course amidst some of the best golf in the USA. This is one of the best venues in the Coachella Valley and is at arguably the best resort in the desert. You can't go wrong here and you could easily pay twice what I paid and still get a value. Holes 14-16 go through a chasm in the surrounding mountains, hence the name "Mountain Course." Very picturesque and the tee at 16 is certainly a picture spot with La Quinta Valley in the background. Make no mistake though, these are some TOUGH finishing holes with the three hardest holes in the last 5 holes. Well worth playing.

Not as tough but still...

Since Pete Dye came out to redesign the course it has been tamed quite a bit. It used to be a monster with every fairway lined with waist high bushes on all of the mounds (and 6.5 hour rounds). With the redesign it is still a beast but you can make some loose shots and still recover now. The fairways were pristine, tees in great shape, and greens a bit on the slower side than normal but still running very smooth. Come on out, you won't regret it. I was a bit disappointed on the first tee when I found out that I paid $175 through GolfNow and the 3some I was with paid $125. Not sure how they got that rate but you should know that it's out there if you can find it.

Don't miss out!

It's the time of year for great golf in the desert. Lots of fantastic courses in the Coachella Valley but this is one of the gems and best values. Played on a Saturday and teed off at 0800 on time. Finished at 1215. We rarely had to wait and it was solid 4somes ahead of us. One of our group lipped out and was left with a 4" putt. All in all a great day in Palm Desert. Can't wait for a bit of warmer weather to hit. Come on out!

Very nice track

The course was in great shape and is a challenging layout with a lot of different looks. Maintenance on the trimmed areas was great. My only complaint is that they trimmed down a lot of the dormant Bermuda way too short. With all the water they put down it turned into a muddy mess and is virtually impossible to chip out of. Other than that the tees, fairways, and greens were excellent and the traps were filled and well-raked. This one comes highly recommended.

First rate course from bottom to top.

Great course but we played when it was still quite wet from all of the rains we've been having. That made it play a lot longer that its stated 6700 yards from the blues. Pace was great for a Sunday; 2:05 to turn and 4:15 to finish. All the staff were very friendly and we never had to wonder when the beverage cart was going to come again, we saw her every 4 or 5 holes. Food voucher came with the round and their grill was amazing. If I lived closer this would be my home course.

Come play The Rock

I've played it many times and as usual it is in great shape. Pace of play was right at 4 hours when we teed off mid-morning. A nice challenging course with a great layout. If you haven't played it yet then you don't know what you're missing. Come play one of the top 3 courses in the IE and a great value.

Tough track for first timers

Course is in decant shape. 3some that I went out with were a bit overwhelmed by the course. Not a good place to play for the first time for a 15+ handicap. Greens were particularly tough. We had at least 30 3-putts in our group and probably much more. Quite a few 4-putts as well. We were amazed at the pace on a Saturday teeing off mid morning. We finished in 4:15.

Try Champions instead.

They shut down both sides for maintenance this year. But I'd be at a loss to tell you what they did on the Legends. The greens were bumpy and slow. The tee boxes were hideous. Hideous! EVERY lie is a tight lie when more than half of your grass is dormant. It was very windy today but I think the course conditions were more of a factor for this 5 handicap shooting a 92. The twosome that I was with said they played Champions on Friday and the greens were much better. The rest of the course is similar. So if you're coming to Morongo to play Tukwet then maybe you should choose Champions. You may want to choose elsewhere though until the Morongo Tribe decides to bring these normally outstanding tracks back up to snuff.

Good time to be in the desert

I was worried about the wind advisories for SoCal but my fears were unfounded. Just a slight breeze in Palm Desert. The course is in great shape. The only reason that I can't give it 5 stars is lack of a driving range. They do have a pitching/chipping area and a large practice green. But if you want to hit balls your in a net cage behind the clubhouse. Still a great bargain and in great shape. Come on out!

Looking good after overseeding

Course is in great shape, come on out. It is still a bit wet and they are cart paths only on the front nine which makes for a long day. But the fairways are about immaculate and the greens are superb. All of the staff are friendly. The beverage cart caught us every 3-4 holes (only one side open now, Valley is getting its treatment at this point). The cart paths only made the pace a bit slower than normal and everything is still really soggy which is why I couldn't give 5 stars on pace and conditions. Give them another week to get it all filled in nicely and WOW! What a bargain in the desert.

Always in great shape.

Played the Valley side as the Palms is closed for maintenance. Valley has yet to be closed for reseeding and punching the greens. The course is in great shape and still only $69!!!

Best value

The course is not in great shape but decent enough for the price. Pace was a bit slow. Still haven't dealt with the weeds growing into the greens. If anything it has gotten worse. Some of the bunkers have no sand left in them. Overall the course is in decent enough shape to enjoy the round. Probably one of the best courses for value in the IE.

A gem of a course

One of the greatest sites for golf in SoCal. A very interesting track indeed. Certainly a very difficult place to hack your way around. If you're going to do so then bring a lot of balls. Our foursome lost over 20 of them but fortunately our adventures in the bushes netted us more than we lost. Some parts of the fairways are a bit sparse and the bunkers need a lot of work. Several of them are GUR they're so bad. Still, most of the course is in pretty decent shape. I was concerned when I saw a burnt out green on 18 before we started but there are a LOT of courses that sustained some damage to the greens from having 30 straight days above 100 degrees. Fortunately that one seemed to be the ONLY one damaged! Like their slogan says, "Pristine golf." Truly a very interesting layout placed in a very interesting spot. You HAVE to play this one!

Very interesting track.

One of the quirkier tracks around. Lots of blind shots, elevation changes, and tiered/sectioned greens. Not quite as quirky as The Retreat but close. You have to have someone with you who has played it before or you'll be lost. As with many courses in the IE this one is also having trouble with maintenance due to the heat. Many of the greens got baked out with temps staying over 100 for most of the past 30 days or so. Lots of bare spots but I've seen much, much worse in the IE right now. Then they've tried to make up for the damage by overwatering and it is very soft and very wet. All in all the course is in decent shape all things considered. Beverage cart came around every 4 or 5 holes. Oh...and no range right now. They're doing a bunch of improvements including adding parking at the range and installing solar covers on the hitting area. Given that many courses are struggling with the greens right now this one is doing better than most. Pace was 4:30 on a Sunday with a 8:24 time.
