Into Thin Air!

I think most golfers remember some courses over other courses for good & bad reasons. I think this one will be remembered for good reasons. At over 9,000 ft elevation, you won't find many higher than this one. The first thing that jumps out at you is the elevation changes. The 1st tee to green drops 150 ft!. You'll be impressed with the views on every hole and you may be sucking gas as you move along the course because it's cart path only! Fortunately, it's a fairly short layout. They fairways are generally spotty due to the elev. & rain. However, the greens are generally in very good condition but putt pretty slow. Only a few sand Bunkers on course and they were OK. Paths need some work in many places but they are functional. Overall, a very memorable golf experience. And by the way, the restaurant in the Lodge Inn next to the course is excellent!

Ruidoso Keeper!

We have lived here in Ruido NM for several summers, coming from TX. The links course has always been my go to course! It's always been well maintained and a good test. Greens are rather quick but roll true. Fairways are generally full to lush, Bunkers somewhat thin, but always playable. This course is generally on par with nice private clubs. And by the way, the practice areas are world class. If you are going to play golf in Ruidoso ... play this one!

Unique course

This course is a must for all levels of players. The layout is challenging, yet fair. Tees and fairways are in good condition with the exception of a few fairways with thin grass. Greens, while not especially attractive, putted straight, true and very fast. Bunkers were well maintained but need more sand. While playing this course, golfers will encounter wastelands, lakes, ravines, and even parts of the San Jacinto river. There is great elevation all throughout the course, especially on the back nine. In all honesty, there are some rough edges about West Fork, but for the money, it's a great golf experience.

A good time

Staff was friendly and got us off very smoothly. Course is an old time lay out ( which I like), lots of trees and some what narrow, but not unfair. Greens were pretty good but had many bare spots. Bunkers were OK but the sand hwas quite wet & heavy. TEES were fine but a little uneven. Fairways were in good shape, bu a lot of branches and grass trimmings on 1st & 2nd cuts. Cart paths need repair on a lot of holes. However, our over,,all experience was quite favorable.

Pleasant experience

Upon arrival at the pro shop everyone was friendly and very helpful with getting us going. Pro asked if we had played the course before (we had, but many years ago) then proceeded to suggest the various tees that were available and most suitable for our handicaps. We were about 15 minutes early for our tee time, but since no one was on the 1st tee, he told us go when ready. The tees and fairways were in very good shape, especially for this time of the year. Greens and traps were in good condition and greens putted fairly fast and true. The layout is somewhat tight, but plays fair. Pace of play was great ( not even once held up - we teed off at 12:30). Paths could use some work. The rock landscape was a very nice addition to the coure since I last played. Grill people were great and the beer was Cold! Keep up the good work guys!

Friendly place to play

I was a single and paired with 2 guys who were great to play with. Both were part time employees of the course and proved to be very helpful with describing the layout. TEES and fairway as we're in dec.ent shape for this time of the year. Bunkers were above average compared to other local courses. Greens were a little grainy but putted true for the most part. Cart paths were somewhat in need of repair. Cart was clean and performed well. Overall, a very enjoyable round of golf.

Hi lehmann,

Thank you for your review! We know it can be hard as a single to be paired up with other golfers, but we're glad you saw that is not the case when you visit our Club! We love our staff and our golfers, and are glad that you enjoyed your round!

We look forward to your next visit!
