Deer Island Country Club
Played On 05/09/2022Enjoyable and challenging course.
It’s four years since we played this course and we weren’t disappointed. The condition was much better than some courses we played. The dry weather hasn’t affected the fairways and greens like others in the region. Congratulations to the Greens Superintendent!
The layout is interesting with water on most holes. The 13th par 3 is challenging and selecting the right club is crucial. ( one of the fourball in front put 5 balls in the water. before giving up!)
Highly recommended for an interesting round.
Mount Dora Golf Club
Played On 04/27/2022Enjoyable but at a snails pace
Enjoyed the layout and the condition was good considering the dry weather. Unfortunately we caught up with a local fourball which ignored both etiquette and the local rules and played very slowly but wouldn’t let our twoball through. Consequently we had an exceptionally slow round. Doesn’t encourage golfers to return.

Friendly and helpful staff. Course in good condition considering the current weather conditions. Be better once the rain comes.
Caught up with a fourball on the 10th. who didn’t know the etiquette of letting quicker players through. Whilst they were senior golfers like my wife and myself, we waited for every shot on the back 9. They said they were slow because of the group in front…who were at least three holes in front of them! The club needs to educate their members otherwise visitors won’t return which doesn’t help the Club financially.
Overall, apart from the speed of play everything else made for an enjoyable round.
The Plantation Golf Club - Otter Creek Course
Played On 04/25/2022Must be the worst course in Florida!
Fairways patchy, greens in poor condition. Couldn’t putt on two because of the thick layer of dressing.
More bare lies on the fairways than grass!
Won’t play there again and won’t recommend it to anyone. Shame because in its current condition they’ll lose a lot of custom.

Played On 05/09/2018Every hole a challenge!
First time playing this course and found it interesting and challenging. You have to think your strategy on each hole. I lost three balls but found seven so others also had trouble with course management! The greens were in good condition and better than most in the area. The fairways were average for this time of year. Nevertheless, the course was enjoyable to play. The downside was the pace of play. A Marshall is sorely needed to get slower players to either get moving or let quicker players through. I note that there is an appeal for Starters and Marshalls in the Club House Sotheby’s Club are trying to do something about pace of play.
Overall, enjoyed the experience and will play here again when next in the area.
The Preserve at Jordan Lake Golf Club
Played On 05/07/2018Thinking mans course
Last played here three years ago and enjoyed it then. Enjoyed it again this time although it’s still recovering from winter damage on the fairways. Looks like someone went mad with a golf cart when the grass was frozen which can damage the grass. However, the greens were in good condition with subtle borrows. Each hole requires some thought which is better than some “straight up and down” courses. On several holes there are small streams/wetland with thickish vegetation across the fairway which challenge you to “go for it” or lay up.
Played early afternoon and only saw six other golfers on the course. All in all an enjoyable course to play with helpful and friendly staff.
Will play again when next over from U.K.
River Oaks Golf Club
Played On 05/03/2018Disappointed of UK
Whilst the course layout was interesting and the staff welcoming, the course condition wasn’t good. Cart paths particularly on the Bear course were the worse I’ve seen anywhere recently. Greens were patchy with inconsistent surfaces.
We did like the fact that hidden water edges were marked with flags but money would have been better spent on repairing cart paths rather than a fleet of new carts. (Maybe the previous carts fell to bits on the cart paths!?)
The catering is no more than snacks but maybe that’s what the customers want. The green fees were the most expensive we’d paid in the area and compared to some neighbouring courses and the conditions, this is over priced.

Played On 05/03/2018A pleasure to play
This course had many interesting and challenging holes. Generally the course and greens were in good condition despite the problems experienced in the winter. We found it difficult to come to terms with the slow pace of the greens but otherwise an enjoyable course to play. Staff were helpful and welcoming. Highly recommended!
Indigo Creek Golf Club
Played On 05/01/2018Disappointing afternoon
We visited this course with high expectation but were very disappointed. The fairways were rough as were the tees. The greens were very bumpy and had bare patches. The course layout was interesting with water in play on many holes. It was the overall condition of the course which was the problem. It seems as if the course hasn’t been watered for a long time although there’s plenty of water around the course. Not a course we’d recommend.

Played On 04/25/2018A pleasant surprise
Had never played this course before but it was a pleasant surprise with many interesting and challenging holes. Lots of water in play but it was a pleasure to lose balls!! The club is miles from anywhere but easy to find. A gem. Friendly and helpful staff and a welcoming Starter. Recommended!
The Country Club of Mount Dora
Played On 04/20/2018Enjoyable course with interesting holes
This course was in good condition with fast true greens. Water on every hole although not always in play.
Staff helpful and friendly. Only downside is that there is no food available after 3pm. So if you’re playing in the afternoon, eat before you tee off! We’ll play here again. Recommend!
Mount Dora Golf Club
Played On 04/19/2018Disappointed of England
We were disappointed with the condition of the course given that it is the “old” course in Mt Dora and we expected it to be mature and well maintained. The tees were rough, the fairways seemed sparse of grass in many places and the greens lumpy and patchy and also varied in pace. Not the expected standard of Florida courses.
We played the “new” course the following day and the difference is amazing. The course to play in Mt Dora!
Buffalo Creek Golf Course
Played On 05/25/2017Good n' flat and fast.
We played this course at a bargain rate. The course is flat and the wide ish fairways were in good condition but the greens whilst fast had recently been dressed so putting was a bit hit and miss. We had no-one holding us up or indeed pushing from behind. Whilst there are water hazards on the course, they aren't a major problem for short hitters. Completed our round in just over three hours. Brilliant.
Of course facilities were limited to bar and bar snacks.
Worth playing for a reduced green fee.
The Preserve Golf Club
Played On 05/23/2017Disappointed of England
This is the most frustrating of courses to play in its current condition. The fairways are lumpy and bumpy which means even when you hit a good shot it can deflect and end up in water or deep rough. I lost eight balls over the eighteen holes. I've never lost that many in a round playing in the US before. OK I hit some duff shots but I don't expect such severe punishment metered out by poor fairways. The course conditions might be due to exceptional dry weather but that could be remedied by using some of the water around the course!
The greens were fast as expected in Florida so no complaints there.
Will say the pro shop staff were helpful and friendly.
Will I return? No thanks!
