I am a member of this course

I play golf about 4 times a week. I realized I had to join a golf club or go broke. I live on an island off the Maine coast. I come out of my house and I can choose where to join a golf club out of at least 30 within an hour of my house. I chose MARTINDALE. The course is always in great shape.
The course does not just have grass; it's grass cut to the perfect hight for a chance at a great shot. There is not one level green on the whole course. Every green makes you think. But! every
green is in great shape; and they run true. Half the course is up on top of a steep hill. The back 9 is much lower and thus, much softer; ( there is a nice rural setting river that safely winds around the back 9). This is a great ( but not cheap) place to play. There is a good place to eat or relax on the second floor of the club house; ( there is an elevator). note. The next good place to eat is a good distance away.
If you play golf, this is the place to play. If you just want to get out and try "golf"; this is not the place for you. There are good places for half the money within miles of martindale.
If you can shoot under 100, then this place is worth a try; you will use all your clubs.

Not Bad At All

I have now played this course about 4 times.
I have played early in the season and mid summer.
The pro shop gets you out on the course; that's their job.
There is a place to eat upstairs. It has great food for an average price. It has views of the course and a deck.
It's a good place for a beer ( or soda) and a burger. The atmosphere is one where you could bring your wife and kids.
No one playing this course is trying to get into the PGA. They are all there to have a nice day out.
The greens are good. The tee boxes are level.
The fairways let your ball run. Some places have rough; others just have dirt. There are water hazards; but there are tee boxes to avoid the water hazards.
It's a nice course for a good day out playing golf near the Jersey Shore.

A good place to improve your game or lower your handicap

The last time I played this course it was late March. At that time the course needed work; like most courses. This time, it was late June. The tee boxes are in good shape. They are also spaced out in a fair manner. The fairways range from " playable" to good. No fairway is in great shape.
Just off the fairway, on every hole, there is rough that would be a little higher than the average first cut, or, there is no grass at all; just dirt or sand. But! don't get me wrong, it's not all that bad. The greens are the comeback story of this course. They range from good to very good. like many golf courses, once you get the ball on the green, the second part of the challenge begins; getting the ball actually in the hole. These greens are a doable challenge.
Over all in an area where you could spend 80 or 90 dollars for not a whole lot better, this place is fine. The atmosphere is lay back, ; and the conditions let you try for a good game. Most of the holes make you think. There is even a par 6. For 35 dollars you play this course and the money you saved you can spend on some food and drink and gas for your car. Give it a shot

the worst conditions I ever played for 37.50

The pictures on their web site must be of someplace else... I've played golf all over the country. I am really not that picky...but... this course HAS NO GRASS! The entire front 9 has some grass on the fareways-- there is no second cut--it goes straight to rocky dirt or clumps of weeds-- even the fairways have bare spots and clumps of weeds instead of grass. The course is not a mom and pop operation--it's a resort with a golf course with a starter, a ranger, a beverage cart---but no grass-- also--if you walk about a 1/4 mile,, they have a place to get a 7 dollar beer---BUT-- they have no grass.. THE BACK 9 IS IN BETTER SHAPE--but--there is not one --not one--zero-- greens with any grass what so ever.. the greens are well designed,, especially if they ever get grass... do not think it's because it's mid april.. nearly all other golf courses in the area are in great shape for the same price-or-less

Not Bad At All

This is a great place to work on your game. The course was in good enough shape for early April. The greens were in good shape.. the tee boxes were present, , the tees varied on quality of condition.. but the design of the greens were a challenge. It's a good place to play for the money ( compared to other places in the area). Oh-- by the way-- they have a par 6 !

Just off exit 75 of inter-state 95 in Maine, this course is a nice challenge. It's not hard; but you will need to concentrate and think. There are 4 tee boxes so that everyone can play. Everything is in one notch below great. The tee boxes are level and in good shape. The fairways are full and mowed at just the right hight. The rough is playable ( playable rough makes it easy to find your golf ball and thus speeds up the game). The greens are in good shape; notice I didn't say great. The front 9 offers some great views. The back 9 has a very nice stream running through it.
I would definitly reccomend playing this course

I like this course

Within only a few miles there are several places you could play.
At this time, this is one of the better places. The fairways are cut to a good length and are in good shape. The greens are making a nice come back from the winter.

I didn't know this place existed

Alongside the interstate, next to the Airport is the Bangor municipal 36 hole golf course, with a clubhouse overlooking the golf course.. I got there and the place was so popular that they were parked everywhere; keep in mind they have 36 holes to spread these people out- along with a very real driving range and two putting greens. It turns out they have senior rates and military discount.
The place is on top of a large hill. The odds are high that you will often be hitting up or down a hill. They have quite a few dog legs where you can't see the green until your second shot. The place was in great shape. I will play again. The greens are a little slow. The rough is about 2-3-inches high ( just about right for rough ) . The bunkers actually have sand-BUT- they could use some attention- it's a great place-give it a try.

Summer has come early to Del Lago

I have played this course in all seasons. I have played here for over 6 years. It has always been in better shape than now.. The reasons why would just use up space. It's a nice course in need of some water and some maintenance. It's very playable. But for the money, you could go to so many other places.

Sorry you feel that way. I can tell you that this course from a condition point of view is one to the best in Tucson. I play them all and Del Lago greens are some of the best now. Traps are a different issue but pretty much all traps these days are not very good. I think you should give it another try because the greens last Sunday were terrific.

not the cheapest-but-the best

I lived in Arizona for 5 years before retiring from the Army. For the last 15 years I have played golf about 3 or 4 times every week. I went back to Arizona this past month ( May) . I played one or two courses every day. You can pay anywhere from 20 to 200 dollars to play golf in Arizona. At the end of the day, Quarry Pines is the best bang for your buck. The layout is great and the conditions are as close to perfect as you can get. Before or after golf, there are places to eat and sleep. Also, it is right off the interstate; not way off in the back somewhere. There is only one water hazard; but many holes have a bottomless quarry pit to keep in mind (just keep in mind-it seldom comes into play. If you are within 40 miles of Tucson AZ- play this course.

A Troon course on the edge of the earth

Finding a great golf course in Arizona is not very hard. This course is about an hour behind Casa Grande. One hour behind Casa Grande is just about nothing. This is an over 55 community with a Troon Golf course.. The tee boxes are great. There is about an 80 yard gap from front to back at the tee boxes. The fairways are in great condition. There is no rough. There is first cut and dirt.
The greens were in good shape. They are probably the biggest challenge on the course. There are no easy or 3's. If you can get out of any of these par 3's with a par be satisfied.
It is a good place. But You could drive a lot less for a 50 dollar great golf course.

A great place to challenge yourself

It's summer in Arizona. If the grass is green it's a good day. The best places are at a bargain
price for a reason. This a very nice course. It's narrow. Most of this place is not forgiving. If you can keep the ball straight, especially in the summer ( warmer ball and drier dirt) most par 4's can be on the green in 2. The first hole, too right, you're in someone's back yard, too left you're off a cliff. 10th hole? hit it well and you're using a wedge to get on the green. Too left? it's the bushes of no hope. Too right; it's more bad bushes and chunky rocks. Two par 3's? one is across a cliff of no chance, the other is down into the green. Quarry Pines is next to the interstate. Behind some good places to stay and others to eat. This is one of my favorite places to play. Bring some extra golf balls and give it a try.

YA KNOW??

Please show this to your town council. I just got out of the Army. I was stationed at Fort Huachuca for several years. I would play San Pedro about once a week. While I was there, San Pedro was always fighting for it's financial life. Now? I am about to come back to Arizona for a 2 week vacation. I was going to book a hotel in Benson. I was going to eat and shop in Benson. From the sound of your reviews, why would I travel down from Tucson to Benson? With 3 hotels just at the end of the road into San Pedro. With a pretty darn good place to eat right on the property; plus some nice places in town. You could offer some nice packages. People need a reason to drove down Route 10. You are the only golf course just off the inter-state, just in the back of a very real town. Vail? no.. the next nearest place like you? ( used to be a quarry) You're sitting on a real money maker

Playing golf courses is a version of exploring

For Years now, I get on Interstate 295 around Brunswick. As I am blasting past this Freeport Golf course I always say " I gotta play there once. So I did. What can I say? It's a 9 hole layout that makes you use your golfer brain. I have never been one to want or expect a golf course to be pristine. Adjusting to the conditions is a big part of the game. If you live within 40 minutes of Freeport; come and play here once. Go into town and get some good food from burgers to steak, any wine or beer you can think of, and talk about your adventure at the Freeport Golf club. If you live more than 40 minutes, try FAIRLAWN COUNTRY CLUB. It's in the back of Poland. It's actually 18 holes for the same price. It's in great shape. It is a hidden gem. Freeport will never host the PGA. But it can be a fun part of a nice day out.

This course is in great shape and every retired person knows it.

I wish no one knew about this 9 hole course. I would love to have the time to play this course at 10 am on a sunny warm day. But! that is when the other 300 , 70 year old and up foursomes come out ( mostly walking) The golf course is in great shape. They use natural surroundings (uncut grass- mostly marsh grass ) to add a level of difficulty to the layout. There is an interesting hill that comes into play for 3 of the holes; you will play a par three that goes straight up hill. That would be great, except that one of the people in these foursomes loses their ball in the woods, everyone goes to look for it until they find it. At times I wanted to run up ahead and just give them a ball. I have learned to go very early in the morning or very late afternoon. You shouldn't miss a chance to visit Brunswick; and you shouldn't miss a chance to play this course that is so well maintained that it is well worth the wait.

They have a driving range

They have a driving range with real grass to hit from. They have a nice little putting green where you can work on chipping and sand. It's too early in the Maine season to talk about the course. When you consider that the whole state was still covered in snow just a little more than a week ago---it's in nice shape. Everything is very soft--but--there still are no bugs! It's a great place to work out the kinks. Let's face it--just like the course still needs some early spring attention--so does our bodies and our game. Why drop nearly 100 dollars someplace--when you can come here for less than 20 and get the same wake-up call.

a nice place to work on your game

I live only 15 minutes from this course. I just retired in this area---so I figured I would give it a try-- I just got out of the Army ( you see alot of golf courses) my last assisgnment was in Arizona---lots of great golf courses---this place is not one of them
It is a quite simple place in very good shape. The greens are in wonderful condition--most of the fairways are in very playable condition---some spots need some extra care. The rough is just but fair--( that's why they call it the rough) Bunkers are well maintained. If you are a beginer--come here--the driving range is real grass--not those dumb mats--- the course will make you remember what you have to do to be a success. If you are a more experienced golfer--then---it's 20 bucks---go there and work on your game--then eat a hot dog--complain about things in general and enjoy a very relaxing day. very near Brunswick-10 minutes off 295

PUSHING OPENING DAY

I just retired from the Army--my last two assignments were GA and AZ. I have retired here in the Bath area. I am getting very impatient with cold-snow -wind and mud--yet I went to Bath CC to give it a shot For the time of year--the fact that only a week ago there had been a foot of snow on the ground---the place was in fine shape and you could tell the crew was eager to just make it better.
I am optimistic to give this place when there is some sun and heat and less wind.

THE ECONO SOUTHERN DUNES

Calling this "the econo-Southern Dunes" is not an insult. I have played Southern Dunes several times now. I can not understand why the price is so high. Maybe they think they can charge extra for the flies and the smell.
This was my first time at the Duke. I am certain I will return--often. This is a very real golf club. The food is fine--and they have a nice promo--it's almost like eating for free--in a nice room. The course is challenging enough for anyone. However- this place was only a surprise to me....everyone already knew what I had just discovered this place is the best value within 60 miles. you can't beat this place

Come here to play golf--not the breath taking views. This course is in great shape. It's laid out so that every level can have a fun day. ( the 18th has a two pond lay out---you clear the first pond--and the second one is right there---this also means the area to drop your first shot is a little tight---but--it is very doable--)- The rough is cut so that it is playable but annoying-( that is why you're supposed to avoid it). The greens run true and are just the good side of normal. 3 out of seven days are windy---welcome to Arizona. This course has a nice restaurant overlooking the 18th hole..with good lunch food. This course is about three minutes off the inter-state--route 10. The only other course this close to the inter-state is Quarry Pines. San Pedro ( however) is not attached to some 55 and over snow bird housing development --- it is at the edge of a real Arizona town with "character"--Benson.
Absolutely play this course.
