Barnsley Resort
Played On 03/06/2017Awesome course
Barnsley is a really fun track that has some amazing views of the mountains. Most of the holes have some elevation change off of the tee but the fairways are wide enough that its fair for every level of golfer. The bermuda greens were soft enough to hold approach shots and rolled really nice for it being winter. The course has some of the best par 3's that I've played in north Georgia. I can't wait to play the course again in the spring when the grass turns green.
Governor's Towne Club
Played On 02/28/2017Amazing layout with the conditions to match
Last time i played the towne club it was late in the summer and the bent greens were in terrible shape. There were multiple greens with that were either burnt up or had crabgrass on them. The superintendent has really turn them around and they are rolling fast and true. The rest of the course is in the best shape possible for winter. The course has a good mix of long challenging holes with forced carries that make you think about every shot from tee to green and short holes that give you a really good opportunity at birdie. The practice facilities some of the best I've seen at both public and private courses. The driving range is all grass and they set up titelist range balls pyramid style at every station.
I'm very certain I will be back to play this track again as it was one the best all around experiences I've had at any course
Echelon Golf Club
Played On 02/16/2017A must play course
Echelon is one of my favorite courses to play in the metro Atlanta area and is a great test of golf for every skill level of player. This Rees Jones design is a top notch course in every way, from the expansive practice facility that provides the ability to work on every aspect of your game to the championship golf course that is beautifully maintained throughout the year.
The only downside is that there is no clubhouse to enjoy lunch and a few libations after the round, but the caliber of the course is such that it should not interfere with the overall experience.
The Frog at the Georgian
Played On 10/06/2016Off the beaten path, but well worth the drive
The frog is a really fun course that will challenge every level golfer from the daunting tee shot on #1 untill you putt out on #18's three tiered green. The course is wide open off the tee as far as out of bounds goes, but in true Tom Fazio fashion every hole is littered with strategically placed bunkers that will more often than not result in bogey. The agronomy crew does a fantastic job maintaining the tournament conditions I've encountered every time that I've played the course. They just added sand to all the bunkers and they're always raked which definitely improves consistency and is really hard to find at public access courses. The bent greens are IMMACULATE! Every time I've played here they are rolling fast and true so staying below the hole is a must considering all of the greens have either multiple tiers or a severe slope. The only two complaints that I have about the course are that it's pretty far off the beaten path and that the summer heat and lack of rain really dried out most of the fairways. It's a little frustrating that the management has not reduced the greens fees from what they were in the spring when fairways were and rough were lush.
Governor's Towne Club
Played On 09/01/2016Great layout, subpar greens
I thoroughly enjoyed my round at this course. Its a great track for players of every skill level. The layout forces you to think about every shot and you will pull every club out the bag before you walk off the 18th green. The conditions were great other than the bent greens that appeared to have been infected and taken a beating from the summer heat.
Disappointing conditions
I frequently travel to Savannah but have never played golf in the area. I decided to take a chance and play crosswinds instead of Savannah harbor to save some money but I was extremely dissatisfied with my experience. The majority of the tee boxes were a mixture of dirt and grass, which is not the end of the world but still unexpected. The greens were by far the worst I have ever encountered on any course, they appeared to not have been taken care of in a long time. I will more than likely not return to crosswinds golf club.
