Hidden Gem in Lebanon

I finally got to this course which is a 90 minutes drive for me. I didn't have many expectations and maybe that's why I enjoyed it so much. I'm not sure why more don't play this course. In the Lebanon, Hershey, Reading areas it's one of the best kept secrets.

It was very affordable and in real good shape following months of minimal to zero rain. The pro shop was well stocked but I didn't partake of the food menu just because of the time of play. Building was clean and welcoming.

Staff was very friendy. The range was nice, has mats and grass areas and an old pickup truck to dent if you want to. Carts are gas, although I prefer electric for the quieter and smoother ride.

The greens were very smooth. Ran very true. I'm picky about greens and these were really good. Beat my expectations for the price. Once you get the speed down they are consistent across the practice and playing greens.

Multiple tee boxes allow them to move and give you a good starting point. No dry spots were found. They also provide you with bottles of sand for divots and it seems the locals honor their role in keeping the course nice. Lots of divots were filled around the course.

Fairways were also good. Traps were more in the fairways and few around greens, but I didn't get in any and forgot to look inside to see their condition.

The layout was good. Pleasant views, kept me engaged. I like varied holes and viewing points. A few holes near the end were odd puzzles trying to figure it out, but the 2nd time I'll place the shots better on the fairway.

Good course, great value. I'm going to play there again.

Boring & slow play. Left after 14 holes

Positive parts? It’s inexpensive and the greens were well cared for during this summer’s drought.

It was boring. No appealing views or layout. Tees were often crabgrass farms. Fairways mediocre at best.

Lots of old men playing forward tees and playing poorly.

Each hole was more of the same. I was a single and behind a foursome who never offered me to play thru. Hard to play well when you stand alone for a long time waiting to take a swing. I realized the final four holes wouldn’t change my opinion of the course and it would be a long slow pain to 18. So I left after 14 holes. Something I’ve never ever done.

Skip this course.

Well maintained and great price - new owners !

Now it’s called The Club at Twin Lakes and owned by the Jaindl family

They out a TON of money into the course. Was well done. This is a drought in august and the greens were damp and lush from good regular watering. Of course slower than dry ones in the area but they have staff going around during the afternoon doing more work. Notable !

Cart paths are nice and wide so we do t run over the grass and make it look bad. Pet peeve of mine.

Tee boxes good. A few holes like 18 need a larger or a few more to keep them from getting worn out but they’re good at this point

Sand traps nice a soft and clean. Better than nearly all public courses in the area.

Fairways decent. They’re watering them also but you can tell it’s august. No complaints.

Staff were all friendly and helpful.

I don’t like the gas carts myself. I lean towards electrical. Smoother and quieter

Pace of play real good both times I was here. Two groups let me through and I played 18 holes in 2 1/2 hours.

Food is very good. Another better than most rating. Wife rode along and we both ate and found it very good Outside patios are real comfortable.

The course is short overall. Back tees are a hair over 6,000 yards. Trees a mature and nice and few don’t come into play unless you mess up.

They’ve jumped this former crappy course up several notches. Huge improvement.

Unusual Layout, Uses all your clubs

First time playing the course on a hot August afternoon. Because it was midweek and hot I played alone.

The clubhouse seemed nice, although I didn't spend time in it. The staff was friendly. Cost reasonable.

The layout was the oddest I've ever played. The holes were not close to each other and you'd have to drive the cart a long way between some holes. Sometimes on the street, another time a long ride in the forest. Sometimes you play 2 holes then travel to next, others a few more. The rides in the woods were really relaxing, on the road next to housing, not so much. And deer stand in the way and look stupid at a golf cart just like they do automobiles.

The holes varied a lot. They aren't the standard flat straight holes with an occasional turn. This isn't your Driver off the tee assumption kind of course. You needed to look at the hole layout and run outs and pick a club for that shot. For that reason, I had to think a lot and I liked that.

Lots of tree lined holes, tight playing, minimal water. Elevated tees and some elevated greens. Lots of eye appeal to be honest.

Tee boxes were in good shape. Not too worn and multiple options for your game.

Fairways were almost all green but a few had some burnout or similar due to their location, water run off, or such. Not often enough to be common.

Faiways aren't all flat. Many are but because of the tight holes you need to pick your shots and proper side of the turn or fairway to have a clear shot.

Bunkers in good shape. Some stones in them but this mountain seems to be one big stone so they did a decent job keeping most of them in good shape with soft sand. .

Greens were all in good healthy shape. Receptive to shots and slow overall. That made them easy to chip onto and putt, which was a relief since getting on the green can be a challenge the first time playing this course.

If in the area again I'd play it again and probably will be in the future. Best condition for a value course in the Poconos than any I've found so far. Of course some resorts have big bucks to have better conditions, but they did a real good job for this cost. Bring your thinking cap, all your clubs, and extra balls.

Great layout, staff, and value

I played this course back in May for the first time and liked it. Thought I’d see if it’s an anomaly or it’s still a good play.

This course and related services puts them in my top 5 public courses in a large area in eastern Pa. I drove slightly over an hour and it was worth it. Why?

They’ve got ample staff running things. No lack of available friendly folks to help you, even this late in the season. The restaurant was cute and had standard tavern food. What I ordered after my round was good. They are also expanding the patio area immediately outside and they have a large covered gathering area for parties and groups a stones throw from the pro shop.

The practice range is near everything making it super convenient and you’re visible to the starter. The green is also and large enough for multiple folks to warm up. Off to the side is a practice sand trap and pitching area. Well thought out.

Now the course. Everything is well maintained. It gets a lot of play and all aspects are being taken care of. The traps were a little wet and needing raked but it’s November and we’ve gotten a lot of rain. Other courses are a lot worse.

Four tee boxes. All in good shape.

Greens consistent and with more than average undulations. Too many public courses go for flat and simple. These are a challenge but with their medium cut not bad. If they want to host a higher level tourney all that’s needed is rolling and a tight cut. I really liked that this required me to think about my shot placement. If on the wrong spot a two to three putt is your likely best result as it should be. Which leads me to the flags.

After my round I took my thoughts to the pro shop. The young lady there was super kind and open to my feedback that their flag colors and patterns make it near impossible to determine hole location on the greens. She said today was winter setup and they didn’t indicate location, which I eventually figured out during play, but I told her this was true in May also. I explained better players want the opportunity to fire for birdies and shot placement is needed with these greens. I shared the checkerboard design of the flag is cute marketing but reduces our ability to see it. Again she was cool about it and promised to take it to the superintendent. To her credit this was the first golf staff to seem interested in direct feedback in many I’ve tried. ( I think it better to talk with them directly than only impersonal written reviews.) She then proceeded to share their course history with me which was very interesting. Sounds like the family cares about the business.

What else ? I like how the course starts out standard for a few holes and then throws its design at you. Some course smack you with a tough first hole to stamp their design on you, or wait 14 holes when you’re already done learning the design.

After a few nice warm up holes you play a dogleg par 5 with traps in the turn and then down hill blind shot par 4 over a pond with trees and a stream behind it. Then back to an uphill par 4.

There’s a short sneaky par 4 most play the wrong club into. At one point there are three holes in a low area with some trees and a stream which is a very nice change. You get one par 5 that parallels a dairy farm, possibly Amish as they are near but I didn’t confirm. Number 18 ends with an light uphill par 4 with a monster trap on the left but no others.

I went long but since I’m giving it a rare top review which I don’t do lightly. It’s well designed to really keep a player interested and run very well.

Treat yourself and play a round.

Good hole variety

First time playing this course. Day was low 50's and 12-15 mph winds. that added to the challenge to figure out what to hit on my first time playing it.

I liked the varied holes. Some are easy, some are challenging in that you have to watch for tilted fairways on some, dogleg causing run out on others.

Sand traps were in bad shape, but it is November of a rainy year. Tee Boxes in good shape. Fairways and greens also in good shape. Greens were slower than I expected but I think that's intentional due to the time of year. The greens weren't nearly as undulating at the course write stated.

The scenery is good. Varies from resort buildings, to private homes, some nice elevation views and changes on the course. The cost was super cheap. It's the 4th 'resort' course in the Poconos I've played and it ties for first place of the four. I liked their simple tee box signs. Basic and easily visible from a distance.

I do think the tee box and yardages could be improved. Forward tees measure just over 5,700 then the whites are almost 6,400. Wide gap for those two. I'd recommend they add a 4th tee box to some holes to shorten the white's.

It seemed well maintained and good signage around the resort. The parking was minimal though, so I wonder where folks go on busy warm months.

I'll go again even though it's a 90 minutes drive. I thought it above average of all courses I've played.

Needs major work or it’ll fail

From the moment you pull into the lot it’s not good. A beat up parking lot with pot holes, a “sports club” that looks worse off than most kids summer camps well worn buildings. I tried to give it the college try but the more I played it the less I liked it.

The buildings need Bull dozed under. No charm as the website suggests. Folks were friendly enough. No issues. The layout isn’t bad but a fair amount of blind shots. There hasn’t been rain lately but I lost a ball in a fairway with standing water. Oddly placed moguls though.

The overall care of the grasses on all areas wasn’t too bad but no where close to a resort standard. It was passable although there weren’t many traps for a Ross design. The greens were over wet and held approach shots but for the wrong reason.

Unless they announce a major takeover or millions in improvements I’d avoid this course. There are
Many in the area that don’t cost much more and are public and tons better.

Mosquito feast and unfriendly pro shop

Start with the positive
Great price
Layout not too bad
Maintenance average. Greens average.

Carts are beat up and need replacement.
The guy at the pro shop was cold and seemed like we were a hassle to be there. But we were all that were around.

The mosquitos were HORRIBLE. Worst I’ve experienced anywhere. We played while running a few holes. A couple guys gave up and drove Past those holes. I must have had 3 or 4 dozen bites for a few days.

The restaurant was dated but cute. Might be nice for locals.

They are pretty remote but didn’t justify the carts bugs and attitude. I’ll not go back.

Elevation changes and decent greens

I liked the elevation changes and greens. Some blind shots and most trees were not an issue.

The range was down into a valley. No drivers allowed. It worked ok.

Tee boxes in fair shape. Same for the entire course. A few worn areas in fairways but they were trying to keep up on it.

Staff was friendly. All of them.

The food was good but the entire building is very outdated. A big area to improve.

They have a dozen or so private bungalows (?) you can rent to stay there. Small and cute and also a little old but I didn’t go inside them to comment further. Folks were staying there and they are next to the clubhouse.

The overall variety of holes made the day interesting. High tee boxes for some. Low greens on others. I walk a lot of courses but I wouldn’t try this one.

I think it’s a decent course and option unless you like flat boring layouts.

Always pleases, greens and traps good

I’ve played here about five times the past year which is a lot since it’s far from my home. But I enjoy it every time. I play in all seasons and the courses are kept in top shape. I like the variety. Greens putt consistently. Sand traps are full of nicely kept sand.

They run it pretty well. Looking forward to using the dining area soon post Covid. Driving range is good. Lots of tees for all skills.

Recommendations I’d make are to change the loud speakers that announce names that are up to tee soon. I’d put one over AT the range so the one by the building doesn’t have to be so loud and interrupt teeing off. It’s the one aspect that doesn’t match the usual professionally run course.

I’ve walked the course and the holes are widely spaced at times. So it’s a long walk.

I greatly dislike video commercials to play on the cart screen while I golf. I want to leave that garbage behind when I get away to play. I’ll pay a extra dollar or so. Some other courses started doing that and I hope the trend does quickly. It may make me avoid courses that do it. I feel that strongly about it. Give us a break from the media

But again I like the course and operations here.

Much improved conditions - Greens excellent

I play this course a few times a year, although with the condition worsening over recent years I'd reduced my frequency, and Covid just gave me added reasons. So I was very pleased at the improved course conditions.

The entire course was green. I didn't find one area needing improvements. Tee boxes, sand traps, fairways were all in good shape. Better than any course of similar value. And the greens? I LOVED them. All of them ran the same , smooth, and fast. That's how I like them and it's the most important part of the course. Accolades to the staff and improvements in the course conditions.

Strangely I got charged for my wife to ride with me, after being told I'd not be charged if not already in a threesome. It was just myself and a walker. I didn't look at my receipt until I finished. I also find their not having course rates on their site or if it is, it's hard to find. I learned that's their usual, and didn't check it on my way out there this time so maybe after 4+ years they finally corrected that.

Enough whining. I like the course layout. Many tee boxes to challenge your skill. And having a food hut/cart after the 9th has always been better than most others have. Go try it out.

Good challenge, relaxing country views

I have to share first that I loved the country setting. Placed amongst the Amish farmlands and the views were nice benefit to a good golf course. Complimentary range balls and lots of staff to serve you and manage tee times was nice to see. To few run on scarce staffing.

The course had a good challenge. Elevation changes, some blind shots, water, hills, open and tight. A really good mixture of shots are needed here. Not sure I've had this wide of a variety of holes at any course I've played, which is a lot. I won't belabor the point, a really good varied course that required my attention and I WILL be back.

Nice course and people

I stopped by while travelling the area to see the beautiful fall colors and was pleasantly surprised. With the tornadoes, flooding, and fire burning the clubhouse down, this course has taken a literal beating the last 5 years.

Everyone was very friendly. The locals were same, and genuinely reached out to say hello and make everyone feel like a local. Nice folks all around.

The course is on the short side and it's not a big challenge. Pretty flat over all. The greens were in top shape this late in the season. A bit slow but that's to be expected for the style of play here (more mid to high handicappers).

The sand was all new, bright white, fluffy. Some of the best I've seen short of a real country club. Tee boxes were in good shape, although the fairways needed some attention. Rough was mostly non existent. Water comes into play a few times, one being a deceiving blind shot you'll likely drop them into.

Scenery is great, if golf is also for relaxing for you. Note there is a gun club next to the course. It was only being used by one person, but whatever gun caliber he shot it makes you jump.

the clubhouse is brand new, just finished. Looks great. when the Covid thing ends and if they have a decent chef, it'd be a great hang out.

Overall very enjoyable. go try it out.

Remote, friendly, inexpensive

The course is WAY out there and was super cheap. Everyone working there was exceedingly nice. It’s short and easy. Greens rolled well and not difficult. Fairways were in need of seeding to fix old divots and dead spots. Tee box and sand traps were ok. Layout was a bit basic on front none. Back nine mixed it up more.

The clubhouse was a bit dated but large enough for good sized group.

This is what I expected for this location. Not enough customers with greens fees to make it wonderful but it was cute and quaint. I liked the folks there and I could see making it a regular spot and getting to know friends there. I enjoyed it enough to play again when back in the area.

Decent overall course. Not great, not bad.

Course was in pretty good shape. Greens had been aerated a week prior so I can't evaluate them in detail. Tee boxes and fairways were in average shape. They do put time into repairing the tee boxes and keeping them in good shape. Sand trips were ok but could use some deep raking to lift them up and remove weeds on a few.

The layout had pretty good variety. Mature trees throughout were nice to frame the holes and underbrush was non-existent so you could find wayward balls. They did rely on doglegs a bit too much on the back nine. A variety of hole lengths.

overall I enjoyed the course and round. Staff was attentive but I did think it a bit high priced for the area. But I'd go if you've got the time. They allow public to pay on Thursdays and Sundays I believe.

Mixed Review - good value

This won't be a straight forward review to bear with me.

The price was pretty low for a Sunday afternoon. Can't imagine it getting much cheaper. Course is not long, so you get to play the blue's <wink wink>. I saw the scorecard listed the front tees as "Ladies" which is over a decade old. they should change that to forward tees. I know women who would find the blue's here short. Women are the fastest growing part of the sport now.

Greens were fast and consistent. Consistency is important and I found them a good challenge. I had to consider where I put my approach shots or chips if you wanted to avoid 3 putts.

The rough was long at some spots. I saw other reviewers complain about it, but the fairways are wide, trees weren't usually a consideration, so for me, I liked the challenge of the short game and putting. It compensated for the easy fairways. if you want a totally easy course without ANY challenge .... ??

Tee boxes were ok, traps seemed ok but I didn't get in any and honestly forgot to check them. Water in play on a few holes, including dry or near dry streams, but read your GPS and lay up or crush over them. None were punitive.

Fairways would have been mowed a bit more at paces, but only once did I feel penalized by the long grass.

We didn't use the clubhouse or order food, so I can't comment there.

For the location they draw the locals well, and it's not a top course, but you aren't paying top dollar either. I believe the course fits the price and clients, and low handicappers can work on their short game.

Hi, Steve. Thank you for reviewing the course. Let us first start by apologizing for the poor experience you had during your visit. Your feedback about the course is important to us. We are working to get everything up to par. We have projects ongoing to recover the fairways and greens. The current condition is by no means the standard we strive to achieve. We are going to escalate your feedback to our team so we can make improvements before your next game, and will continue to work towards an excellent experience by using your comment for guidance. Thank you for playing Blue Mountain View Golf Course. We hope to see you again soon.

Classic Nicklaus - some oddities with club

The design was what I thought from what little I know about Nicklaus design methods. I had to play a variety of shots, but my swing was 'on' so it didn't bother me. As the introduction said, it's not designed for the scratch golfer, but for the more normal Joe out there. So you got a good round with a taste of design without coming away feeling beat up.

The fairways were outstanding. Wonderful to hit off. Tee boxes good, not great nor bad. Greens were in good shape but very very slow. There was heavy rains late in the previous day and that slowed down the entire course and made the greens roll like stuck in mud. The traps were often full of water. That was something I thought odd. A top course the friday before labor day weekend in touristy Poconos and they aren't pumping the water out. I've been on lesser courses who do that the day after a heavy rain.

The folks I met were all friendly. I found the layout very odd, let me explain. Hole number 1 is past part of a hole and over a road. The 8th hole ends at the club house, then you go back over a road to play 3 holes, then back on this side to finish and a few holes there are not near each other. The range is a distance away but not toooo far. It took away from the experience. I like the traditional hole organization and being a modern built design I didn't understand why.

But it's one worth playing. i'd like to try it again when it's not so wet and see how it plays.

Decent Course and Value

This was my 2nd time playing, the first back in May. I don't know what the other reviewers saw but I saw nothing they describe. I don't recall any burnt out tee boxes or such and the course was cared for and green. <shrug>

It's got a decent price and amenities. Large clubhouse and eating area, although the atmosphere is really nice, covered, the food quality wasn't great. Both my brother and I felt it was edible but not notable.

the front 9 are open and sunny, back 9 get tighter in the woods. water comes into play a few times, as do those trees if you are wayard on the back 9.

I think it's a good mid level challenge and one I can enjoy and take relatives with high handicaps and we all enjoy.

Busy course, well run, nice round

The course has ample staff to keep things moving, and all are jovial. There was a lot of activity and it was needed because it was busy, but once out on the course, you didn't notice it. All the foursomes played a decent pace, so it went well on this very hot day. I liked the regulars, a lot of us older folks and it there were lots of friendly discussions going on. Made me think this would be a swell membership club if I lived near it.

the course has some nice views, lots of rolling hills they utilize, and a little water but not much. Few trees. It's worth playing for sure.
