Going downhill

Vernonia Golf Course is an out of the way course near a small town. It's now a 9 hole course, though years ago it was an 18 hole course. I'd have to guess that economics are the reason for the decline, but the greens are half fern like ground cover, half grass, and in general in poor condition. The fairways were very dry. The course layout does present challenges, and there are plenty of places where it's easy to lose your ball. But in general the shape the course is in- especially the greens- does not offer a satisfying golfing experience.

Greenback in September

The course was in good condition for the time of ear. What normally might be the rough was quite dry, but otherwise the fairways and greens were in good condition. Speedwise, the greens were about average. Greenback is a flat course, so a cart isn't as necessary as on a hilly course or a course where green to tee is far. Great Blue(the sister course) may be more challenging, but Greenback offers plenty of challenging holes and opportunities to get in trouble if you're not hitting the ball with accuracy or choose to try to cut corners. All in all a fun course to play.
