Grey Rock Golf Club
Played On 11/10/2017Greens were a minus
Nice course overall but pretty obvious that it’s seen better days. The walkways, course features, landscaping, amenities, etc were all a bit tired and in need of attention. That said, the layout was excellent with a nice mix of holes, well-groomed fairways and LOTS of bunkers. Nice, fluffy sand, too, the kind that you don’t get too angry about landing in. That was a big plus. The big minus were the greens, which were super bumpy and inconsistent. They looked fine from the fairways but up close were very disappointing. Putting was a total guessing game and no fun. I got a good deal on Golf Now and would recommend it at that price. However, I’d say that $44 (my deal) is the max they should charge until the course is in better shape.
Lago Vista Golf Course
Played On 10/20/2017Great layout, iffy greens
Felt bad giving this course only 4 stars, actually. It was pretty, fun to play, challenging in just the right measure, and the staff were super friendly and helpful. However, the conditions were just not good enough to merit that extra star. The fairways were weedy and inconsistent, virtually none of the tee boxes were level (a big no-no, IMO), and the greens were a mess. The ball jumped and wobbled so much on the way to the hole it was impossible to know if you hit it with the right line or speed. Still, I’d play it again for sure. Really great layout, which let you bomb it once in a while but forced you to really ponder your targets and club selection. There are a few holes (9, 10, 16) I’m dying to play again. The views were stunning and the price was more than right. Awesome value.

Played On 04/24/2015Great layout, nice mix of holes
At first I was a bit worried; the front nine looked like a bit of a cow pasture. But as the holes went by I enjoyed it more and more. The layout was links-style in just the right way, and each hole offered a slightly different challenge. You couldn't just bomb it off each tee, but neither was it target golf all the time. The back nine was more tree-lined and quite pretty. The fairways were not good at all, unfortunately, but the greens were fine. Nice folks and great value. If the fairways improve it'll be awesome. Overall an enjoyable experience, for sure.

A pretty good course, in decent shape, not too expensive. That's all good but not when you're standing around on every single tee box and most fairways. Bruuuuutal. No marshall to be found on a busy Saturday? Come on. This is not the first time this has happened but it definitely is the last.
Mississippi Dunes Golf Links
Played On 9/8/2013Fantastic views, great condition and challenging
This was one of the best golf days on the road I've had in a long time. Absolutely gorgeous course, superb layout (but maybe a bit too hard for some) and in immaculate condition. Super-friendly folks and a good deal. My one quibble is the amount of undulation in the greens. It was ridiculous on a lot of them and overall seemed gimmicky. The layout is tough enough - not long but narrow and with lots of trouble everywhere - that having impossible greens was unnecessary. But I loved it anyway, and would play again in a heartbeat. And no I don't usually rave about golf courses. I'm disappointed way more often than I'm pleased. A must-play.
