Must Play in The Triad

I played this course on Memorial Day around 3pm. There wasn't a ton of people out on the course and the round was very relaxed.

I played the course from 6800 yards and really enjoyed it. It presented its fair share of challenges from that length with the fairway bunker placement, and the carries over water, but was still a joy to play.

My favorite part about this course were the greens. They were hard and fast. I felt like every 5 footer I hit was going to go in because of how true they rolled out.

Also if you have a junior golfer in your family they can play for free if you pay to play. From what I saw, there were a number of dads who took advantage of this opportunity to play a round with their son or daughter. I also commend the club for offering this as an option. It really shows their interest in growing the game of golf!

If you live in the Triad area and call yourself a golfer, Greensboro National is a MUST PLAY!

Play Somewhere Else

My wife and I went out to play this course cause we got a 50% off deal on GROUPON. I am around a 12 handicap, with my best over all round being a 78. This course IS THE WORST COURSE I HAVE PLAYED in the area. The only part of the course I found playable were the greens.

The greens were much like the greens at OLDE HOMEPLACE. They rolled well but were thick and slow. However that is all that can be said that is good about Plantation.

The tee boxes were dirt. The fairways were dirt. The fringes were dirt. The bunkers were small and had too much sand. The layout was terrible and very condensed. Lots of up hill shots to greens. No sign labeled to point you to the back nine. On the second hole we contemplated calling it quits...

I use GolfNow to book almost every tee time, and you can play OAK VALLEY, OLDE HOMEPLACE, MEADOWLANDS, SALEM GLEN, TANGLEWOOD, GREENSBORO NATIONAL and a number of other courses for around the price and have a much better experience. And if your near Riedsville, and have a chance, run up to Danville, VA and play the GOODYEAR GC. In my opinion it is the one of best three courses I have ever played (including TPC Sawgrass and Firestone CC two PGA TOUR courses), and it was only $18 to walk and $30 to ride.

Bottom line, this course needs new ownership or a new superintendent. There are much nicer places to play for around the same value if you are using GolfNow. I hate being a pessimist but this place was just bad...I would only play there again if it was free...
