South at Admiral Baker Golf Course
Played On 03/01/2018So Sad
I've played Admiral Baker several times in the past and it was so sad to see how they have allowed the fairways to deteriorate. The turf is now a mixture of different grasses and weeds and there are numerous large bare patches. In many places the rough is actually more playable than the fairway. It looks like the entire course needs to be replanted. However, the greens are still pretty good -- give them 4 stars.
Course is in terrible condition
I have played Eastlake maybe half a dozen times in past couple of years. In the past, it has always been in good to excellent condition, but I was shocked at its current condition. There are dirt patches (not just brown grass, but bare dirt) on the fairways, some of them must be 100 square feet in size. In other areas, the fairways are so over-watered as to be soggy, muddy, and barely playable. Even the greens had a great many bare dirt patches, some of them as big as my hand (these are not ball marks). They have just over-seeded and I'm sure they will tell you that they are making improvements, but at the moment it has to rank among the worst conditions I have ever seen on any course, private or muni.
I would like to apologize for the course conditions during your visit. This past fall, and especially during the time of your visit, EastLake Country Club was in poor shape. Your comments of the course conditons were true, but I hope to show you they have been fixed. Many of our course condtion issues were due to some large scale irrigation system challenges and disease that had catostrophic efffects on the golf course.
I would love for you to see the condition of EastLake CC now. We have invested large amounts of money over the last few months including sod, over 16,000 pounds of seed, and large amounts of water and manpower to get the course back into the condition it used to be in. Please feel free to call me at your convenience to discuss this matter, as I would like to make it right for you and your playing partners.
Sincerely,
David Landers
