L. E. Ramey Golf Course
Played On 01/29/2020Great course layout if you don’t mind playing on dirt
I’m visiting Texas from Minneapolis and at our condo was the yardage book for this course. I liked the layout and the holes seemed challenging. We’re in Corpus Christi about 45 minutes from the course so I decided to get go see this track. I was surprised when i pulled into the parking lot and there were 6 cars parked at 9:00am! After paying $24 for green fee and cart I drove off to the first tee. I try to play a few holes before making a judgement but this course was in such bad shape I could hardly call this a golf course. The fairways, or what they call them, are mostly bare ground. You have to look around to find any piece of turf. Most of the greens are dead. They really should learn how to water their course. After nine I was going to hang it up but I ran into a foursome of great guys and they asked me to play with them. The back nine was just as bad as the front but the company was wonderful. These guys were all locals and were just as negative about the courses condition. One of them said when the course opened it was considered one on the best tracks in southern Texas. The course is owned by the city of Kingsville and I think their spending tax $ on other things than community recreation. I loved the layout of the holes. Too bad they forgot how to maintain a golf course.
Oso Beach Municipal Golf Course
Played On 01/27/2020Good public course
This course always seems to be busy. Green fees are reasonable at around $30with cart. The course layout is fun and challenging on some holes. I don’t understand why the courses here are not overseeding like other southern state areas. Playing off of dormant Bermuda is not the most fun. The greens here were in pretty good shape. The staff was friendly. Pace of play was a little slow but we finished in just shy of 4 1/2 hours.
Gabe Lozano Senior Golf Center - Championship Course
Played On 01/23/2020Course is very ordinary
I’m sure that during the summer this course blossoms but in January it is dried out and very ordinary. The tee boxes are barely grass covered, the fairways are in need of some water(what is it about these public’s courses in Corpus Christi that they can’t water their courses). If you’re in need of a golf fix, this course may work out for you but I think there are better choices.
Gulf Winds Golf Course
Played On 01/16/2020On naval base - not worth the effort
I was invited to join some people at the condo we’re renting for the winter to play this course. After going through a security check which I was fingerprinted and paid $30, I was given a card to allow me to play this mediocre course. The course lays over 2 pieces of property on either side of the main road into and out of the base. The green fees are reasonable at around $30 including cart. The course is. very boring to play. Not many interesting holes. The fairways are dormant burmuda(why can’t these course oversees for the winter!). The greens are in reasonable shape. I would think the Navy would take a little more pride in their golf course.
Harbour Town Golf Links at Sea Pines Resort
Played On 02/02/2018One more checked off my bucket list
From the time you turn into the parking lot here it’s like a dream come true. The staff is first class. Donny, the caddiemaster, set our foursome up with Shea as a forecaddie and he did an outstanding job for everyone. The course played as tough as expected(shot a few strokes over my handicap). Coming down on 18 was wonderful. I even parred the 8th(#1 handicap).
Total cost with tax was $301. Worth every penny. If you’re in the area and can get a tee time, play it. You’ll always remember a great time.
Stonebrooke Golf Club
Played On 06/27/2017Course OK as long as you don't have to deal with staff
Stonebrook is best known for its pontoon boat on the 8th hole but you have to put up with a lot before getting there. The staff here seems to think golf is not a game but something much more serious. I did not see one staff person smile the whole time I was there. Come-on folks, it's golf it's supposed to be fun.
The course is in OK shape. The greens generally putt pretty true and are mowed to a good speed. Most of the cart paths need work. The 2 biggest gripes I have about this course is their rule that you cannot bring carts into the parking lot and their decision not to have any water available on the course. These are both dumb rules and reflect the strict attitude displayed by everyone. Too bad. This could be a great golf experience if they would lighten up a little.
Lost Key Golf Club
Played On 02/26/2017Challenging track - well laid out
I've now played this course for the past few weeks and feel I can give it an accurate review. I'm giving it five stars because I think this course would be great to play when the grass is out of dormancy. I don't understand why Florida/Alabama courses don't overseer like Arizona courses and it's the only thing I can find faults with this course. Some golfers I've talked with call the course "Lost Balls" but I find that if you can keep the ball relatively close to the fairway, you should enjoy it.
The greens are some of the best I've putted on in 2 months of playing gulf coast courses.
Pace of play is always really good. Today I played in 4 hours, 5 minutes. Pretty good. The staff is very friendly and usually brings a cart out to your car when you arrive.
Give this course a try and I think you'll enjoy yourself.
Gulf Shores Golf Club
Played On 02/13/2017Challenging course
This course is a real pleasure to play. Unfortunately we were right behind a very slow group for the first nine but the 2nd nine played in a reasonable time frame. I've come accept that the courses down here do not overseer like they do in Arizona which I don't understand but this course played paisley with the "turf" available.
The staff was very cordial, the Marshall kept play moving and the parking was convenient.
I would love to play this course in the summer and see what it presents in full bloom. I'll play here again before we leave.
Quintero Golf Club
Played On 02/18/2015Visiting Phoenis - This is the course to play!
Annually, I come to Phoenix and always look forward to playing here. From the time you drop your clubs until they get loaded back into your car, you're treated like family.
The course was in great condition. The greens are as fast as I've ever played. I can't remember taking so many 3 putt greens in a round. They had the tees up a bit from the last time I played but this course gave me everything I could handle.
The views from each tee are spectacular. The driving range is as good as I've experienced.
This is a must play if you're in Phoenix. You will not be disappointed!
Thank you for coming to play Quintero. We are so glad you chose to spend some time with us! When will you be back?
