Condition needs improvement

Haven’t played this course for a while, the condition had really gone downhill.

I used to play this course a lot when I first started golfing, and really enjoyed this course as it offers some challenging par 3s, and the layout for par 4 and 5s are very different from hole to hole unlike other executive course.

I would still play this course for the right price, I do hope they fix some of the fairways soon.

Amazing course

First time playing here, very challenging and fun to play course.

Pace could’ve been better, we still managed to finish 18 before 615, I think we are about 20 min behind pace.

Will come back again.

Course layout is very dangerous

First time playing this course on a Sunday morning. Unbelievably busy.

The course layout from a players perspective is ok, however, from the safety perspective, it’s ridiculously dangerous.

Almost every fairway (second shot) was in the tee off zone of another hole, me and my playing partner had at least 9-10 balls that landed near us from the other tee. No one really call fore neither, I don’t blame them because they probably can’t see us.

The course is relatively short, which leads to another problem, you are not ‘allowed’ to tee off until the group in front of you is off the green. Therefore the pace of play is guarantee to be slow.

The surprise to this course is, you actually get to see a lot of salmon swimming along the lake.

But for my personal safety, I probably would not come back to this course.

Course was ok, but overall bad experience

From my experience today, I felt that this is more a course cater to their members than a public golfer. The check in process from the beginning was a pain (though partly it was golfnow’s fault)

Our tee time was 7:08am and I booked through golfnow. When I check in, I was told that my rate was walking rate, but when I book through golfnow, it was shown to me that cart was included (and I had a picture on my phone to show them) The staff there was unwilling to help resolve the problem, the only thing they tell me is, there was nothing they could do but to charge me regular rate (oh really? So you assumed the customer is wrong, and have no solution... maybe a free cart or even a discount on the cart fee will make your customer feel a lot easier?)

Anyway, as it was 35 degree at 7 in the morning, our group paid full price for the cart. We tee off at the emerald 9, and was told to play the sapphire on the back, which was a bad decision.

Front 9 was fine, generally no complain, our foursome breezed through it less than 1.5 hours. Back 9 however was a nightmare. After we tees off the first hole (blind tee shot) we found a group for four in front of us on the green. We figured that the starter must have started another group there, which was fine. So we waited for them to finish. When we got to to second green, the group in front of us were still teeing off. We took a quick look and noticed that there were no one in front of them. After about 10-15 minutes of waiting, finally a Marshall came by and talk to them. The Marshall mentioned to us that this group are all beginners and in the tail end of the tournament, and seems like they don’t know how to play scramble. The Marshall then mention that the pace should speed up, and he will come check on them again in a bit (that never happened)

Basically from the second hole to the fourth hole, it took us another hour and 15 minutes. At that point, we just decide to leave as it was pretty pointless, you lose your rhythm, momentum and overall interest already.

We call the club house and told them about the situation, they told us we would receive a rain check for the back nine, and the third issue came up. When we got the rain check, we noticed they they only gave us the refund for the remaining holes. We try to state to them that the we did not consider the first three holes of the back nine was ‘playing’, no one plays golf in a way that every shot you have to wait 10-15 minutes, and if deer creek consider this ‘playing’ golf, then there’s an issue. At this point, one of a more senior staff (or at least he looks more senior) came out and suggest that that’s the way they operate there, and if we don’t like it, we don’t have to go back and can use the rain check at their sister course glen cedar. We play around 60-80 rounds a year, this is by far the rudest team of staff I’ve ever met. If you guys want to stay private, so be it. If you are opening it up to the public, treat them with some respect. Same for their members, they look at you with an angry face, almost feel like you are destroying their course.

The course itself was ok, condition was decent. Fortunately you can probably pay less and experience similar condition, good lay out and more friendly staff nearby. Personally I would never go back, and if you wanna be treated with some respect, I don’t think you should neither.

My little suggestion for the golf course, Customer might not be ALWAYS right (though we thought we were), but being accommodated to your customers goes a long way.

Always nice to play here

Played here on a Friday afternoon, we love the layout of this course and the green is in decent shape.

It was busier than usual, for some reason the Marshall was sending out twosomes one at a time. We had a foursome, even though we weren’t playing extremely fast, we still have to wait for the two some in front of us. Near the 16 hole, there was a backup on the tee box.

We managed to finish 18 in 4.5 hours, I’d say botherline acceptable. For reference we usually finish around 3h45min or so.

Overall, I still love this course, always fun and challenging!

Nice course but probably not worth the drive

We are located near Markham hence we usually play courses in the GTA/Markham area. We decided to try something new and a friend recommended the hawkridge courses in orillia. The drive was about 1.5hr from Markham, traffic was decent at 6am in the morning.

The course itself was in good shape overall, some of the greens have a lot of brown spots, and some were under repair. We played the meadow nest course in the morning and timber ridge right after.

First 9 holes of meadow nest was quite open, and back nine is more tight and requires more hole management.

The timber ridge course was (in my opinion) a bit easier overall, but the layout was still fairly challenging.

It’s a nice course if you are in the area, staff there are nice and helpful, and overall I think it’s a nice course. However, the drive is a bit far for me! But I’ll still come back maybe once a year.

Nice and challenging course, pace was very rushed.

This is the second time we played at the North Course. Overall the course is challenging and fun, some of the layout is difficult and demands a nice drive off the tee (from blue/green).

For beginners, the red/white tee are much more forgiving, therefore you will not be intimidated.

We teed off at 7:39am, however we find that the course was already very busy. We kept our pace to about half a hole to the group in front of us, but we felt extremely rushed. One of the reason was because the proshop decides to send out a two some behind us, i think that was very inconsiderate. The twosome were right behind our tail and on some holes, they hit approximately 10 yards to the green when we were still putting. As much as we enjoy playing this course, we did not get a chance to enjoy it at all.

I wish the course can pace out each group a bit better, instead of squeezing in more and more golfers, at the end of the day, everyone is frustrated and no one gets to enjoy the round.

Good condition, could be finish in 3.5 hrs

Came here twice on two Friday afternoon. Course condition was great, and the pace was good. The first time we play here, I was playing as part of a foursome, there was a twosome behind them and then a single. The twosome asked if they could go first, we said yes initially, however they were quite slow. We didn't understand why the marshall didn't group the twosome and the single together. Otherwise everything was great.

The location is great also, 2 minutes off the highway! I would come back at a fair price.

Nice little course if you want to get a quick round in (valley course)

Played on a rainy/cold October Friday. We weren't allow to ride the cart because the course was wet (raining all morning), we decided to walk the 18 anyway.

It's a relatively short course, if there's no one ahead of you, you can finish in about 3.5 hrs.

I'm a intermediate golfer, I find the holes are generally very well set up, although the greens are very small for most holes.

We enjoy hole #2 and #12 the most where you hit the ball from the top of a cliff, it's challenging while beautiful to look at.

The only down side of this course is there's MANY powerlines, and occasionally you will see a train passing by.
