Forest Glen Golf & Country Club
Played On 08/08/2019Enjoyable
Nice course, well-represented, spoiled only by constant traffic noise from the 951.
A fourball in front held us up every shot for 8 holes but thankfully quit after the 9th. Is it deemed a slight to your honour to wave through others behind playing quicker? Just how long does it take to let someone through? 2 mins?
Eagle Lakes Golf Club
Played On 07/27/2019In a dreadful state, such a pity
We have played Eagle Lakes at least once each summer for the last 13 years when vacationing in FL.
We have always classed it in the "cheap & cheerful" category but after this visit, I doubt we'll go back.
Before I go on, I have to state that thanks to GolfNow we only paid $15 + fees + tax so, you might say how dare I criticise - and I accept that.
However, it would appear that the only course maintenance carried out is on the greens, (which to be fair, I would say were in good condition), and the fairways which would appear to have been given a (very rough) cut with chain mowers.
The tees almost without exception were in a shocking state, as were the bunkers - hardly any sand at all, let alone any manicuring of edges/cosmetic maintenance
There were huge gouges up and down the fairways indicating grass cutting had been attempted in very wet ground conditions.
The area immediately in front of the clubhouse windows looking on to the course was a real mess and eyesore.
Having visited over a good many years, it's obvious that the planned/projected housing development never took off and surrounding land, particularly between the second nine and US 41 looks a complete wilderness.
I know a cart and ice were provided in the fees but really, if you're expecting/looking for decent golf, this course is in a very poor state.
It's a pity as the staff are always friendly.
Stoneybrook Golf Club
Played On 08/01/2018Fantastic value for money
Excellent.
Can't be beat for the price.
Best value for money I have ever had on a golf course and I'm 64 yrs old and been playing since I could walk.
Eagle Lakes Golf Club
Played On 07/26/2018Good
Always enjoy it here.
What I call cheap and cheerful.
We paid $75 for 3 of us all in via Golfnow, so for $25 each, you can't complain.
Back nine holes are a bit samey but hey, it never pretended to be Augusta National.
Hope to come back again, very enjoyable and friendly staff.
Riviera Golf Club
Played On 07/24/2016Don't bother ......
Awful place. Course in dreadful condition and as for the guy in the shop - unpleasant, couldn't even be bothered to reply to my "Good Morning" and just gave me a receipt to sign for the cart.
There are literally scores of courses in and around Naples and this has to be the worst. The "greens" were covered in re-turfed patches and sand. The fairways and tees were scruffy and poorly presented. We paid $14 per person thru Golf Now, and believe me, that was about $14 too much. I wouldn't go there again if I was offered free golf.
Avoid.
TPC Treviso Bay
Played On 08/09/2014Good course
Challenging course in good condition with no really poor holes. Need to be straight and accurate off all tees. Aesthetically pleasing, spoiled only by the shell of an un-built clubhouse that looks like something out of a war zone. Ergo no facilities at the course to shower, have a drink etc. Club shop is a disguised Portakabin with minimum stock.
Good value but I wouldn't want to pay full whack until the infrastructure improves.
Old Corkscrew Golf Club
Played On 08/07/2014Good test of golf
A good test of golf which beginners may find hard as anything offline off the tee is a lost ball.
Lely Resort Golf & Country Club - Flamingo Island Course
Played On 08/05/2014Good value thanks to GolfNow
Had a pleasant round on the Flamingo course. It was VERY wet and cart path only. That said, we had an enjoyable time. As my title suggests, thanks to GolfNow we got good value.
Sarasota National Golf Club
Played On 08/02/2014Worst course I've played in SW FL
Right let's start with price. I paid $35 on a nearly deserted hot August afternoon. In the past 4 weeks I have played over 15 courses in this area all for less $. Of all those courses, this was the worst experience and worst value for money.
The course itself is set in a flat, barren wasteland in an undeveloped "community", so aesthetically awful to look at. An odd house being built here and there, so drills and jack-hammers making noise. Don't let the photos on their website fool you. Its condition was, in my opinion, poor - scruffy fairways and bunkers and low/little water in the man-made lakes. Greens were also scruffy and bumpy and not particularly true. The round took nearly 4 and a half hours because, even though the course was near deserted, a 4 ball followed by a 3 ball decided they would not wave through anyone playing faster. Apparently their 4 hrs 14 mins guidelines actually mean that everyone has to take at least that length of time. We are quick players used to getting round in 3 hrs, so, tough.
Now for the "facilities". The carts provided don't have ice boxes or towels. In the middle of summer, you might therefore expect to be able to shower after your round. Not a chance. There are single stall lavatories, one for men and one for women.
To top it all, the guy behind the counter who took my money was just plain rude. Read a few more reviews of this place and you'll get the picture.
To put all this in perspective, a course I played near Naples provides ice boxes and towels, a free bottle of water, iced scented towels after the 9th hole and a course and facilities in immaculate condition. And via GolfNow I paid $19 - yes nineteen. Another 4 miles away (similar without the scented towels) I played for $16.
Sarasota looks to me like it's on its knees. You would think they would bend over backwards to provide a positive, friendly, experience so folk go away and rave about it. Not in my case. Personally I wouldn't go near the place again even if they paid me.
Hammock Bay Golf Course
Played On 07/16/2014Good value for money
Enjoyable afternoon spoiled by the snail-like pace of play. No marshall on hand to speed up fourballs who seemed to expect everyone else to play at the same pace and refused to let quicker 2-balls through.
Course in excellent condition but greens rather slow.
What a ridiculous review. Barren wasteland? The course is a wild marsh with the course weaving through it. It's one of the best conditioned courses in all of Sarasota. If $35 is too much to pay for a round at Sarasota National because they don't give you ice and a towel, then you need a reality check.
