Sky Mountain Golf Course
Played On 05/21/2015Poor Course Management
The course was in excellent shape and very scenic but the course needs a qualified manager. There were 4 tee distances indicated on each of the beginning tee plagues but only 3 sets of tees were placed on each hole, notwithstanding the fact that there were multiple tee boxes on each hole that were well maintained. In addition, there are no ratings and slopes indicated on the score card.
When asked about not having some intermediate tee markers between the white and red sets of tees, the answer was that for older men, the red tees could be used. When asked why weren't shorter tees for the older women place, no answer could be given except to say at some point in the recent past, they decided that there would only be 3 sets of tees placed, one at 6302 yds, one at 6014 yds, and one at 5044 yds with no provision for those needing a set of tees in the 5500 yd range or lower than the 5000 yd range.
Bloomington Country Club
Played On 02/19/2015Flat course for this area.
Course is pretty much flat with no special features. Well maintained and courteous staff.
Green Spring Golf Course
Played On 01/30/2014Needs more geese control and better placements of flag.
Course needs a little more maintenance and needs to put more effort into getting rid of the geese that are all over the course especially on the holes that have water. Many of the hole placements were put on edges of the green which were severely sloped so that the ball would come back further from the hole than where the ball stopped its forward progress.
Palms Golf Club
Played On 01/28/2014Average Course
The course needs a little more maintenance. The rough was mostly hardpan with some yellow dead grass. The cart paths were in pretty bad shape.
As for the design, the front 9 had no special design features and was very flat with many geese with their usual droppings.
The back 9 was through many hills and canyons with almost no geese, just some rabbits here and there. The design was great on these back holes with many scenic views and interesting holes.
Golf Summerlin - Eagle Crest Course
Played On 11/14/2013Nice short course
The course is very well maintained. It has a nice practice area. It's slightly less expensive than the normal fare out here in the Las Vegas area since it's shorter than the standard championship course. Depending upon the tees played from it measures about 4000 yds from the blue tees.
It is somewhat hard to find since it's somewhat hidden within a neighborhood. The staff all were very friendly.
Los Prados Golf Course
Played On 11/11/2013Very difficult course
Although this is a short course with USGA rating and slope indicating such, it is an older course with many large trees on each side of narrow fairways. Except for drives, chips, and putts, It seemed that over 50% of my shots were from behind trees because of previous shots I hit only slightly off line. A very humbling course notwithstanding the short yardage and low USGA rating and slope.
Boulder City Municipal Golf Course
Played On 11/6/2013Great Prices
This municipal course was fairly well maintained with friendly staff. The prices for out of district users are, of course, much more expensive than the residents, but for the Las Vegas area, the prices should be considered moderate.
Inwood Golf Course
Played On 10/10/2013Play moved along fairly rapidly during this autumn day.
The course wasn't as crowded as I found it when I played there a few years ago during the summer months. The only trouble I had with the course setup was the holes were cut on portions of the green that had too much break for medium high handicappers like myself.
The staff was very friendly.
Blackberry Oaks Golf Club
Played On 10/8/2013Well designed, well maintained, friendly staff.
It is a well designed course. Holes follow each other fairly well. It is well maintained with a friendly helpful staff.
Senica's Oak Ridge Golf Club
Played On 10/6/2013Trees need trimming..
The overall maintenance was okay but not great. The real problem is that there a number of trees with branches overhanging the edge of the fairway that should be trimmed back10, especially on the back nine.
I am looking at the scorecard and I see the course ratings.
I agree, it would be nice to have 4 sets of tee markers. I believe the greens keeper is trying to keep cost down with maintenance and upkeep. I will mention it to him. If you see a tee box you would like to play, I would suggest you play it, and not worry were the markers are. Just a thought!
