La Torre Golf Resort
Played On 08/18/2019Average layout in good condition
Overall: average layout in good condition, fine for a leisurely round, not as good as Alhama Signature or El Valle for the same price
Pros: greens are soft and in good shape with some crab grass here and there. Tee boxes/fairways in good shape. Some water but otherwise foregiving.
Cons: no drinking water on the course so bring your own! Layout not terribly imaginative, becomes a bit repetitive by the back nine. Built for carts so walkers will find the distance between holes a bit far.
Roda Golf & Beach Resort
Played On 08/15/2019Typical resort course in good condition
Pros: fairways in good shape and greens in great shape, even in August. Course itself is rather flat and design is nothing groundbreaking, but good for a leisurely round. Typical resort course, fairly forgiving.
Cons: not so friendly to walkers, course is more built for carts. No drinking water on the course so bring your own!
El Valle Golf Resort
Played On 08/14/2019Challenging course with soft greens
Pros: Interesting layout, plays a bit long from whites in the wind, greens quite soft, fairways in decent shape even in August. Pace of play good at twilight.
Cons: No water on the course; remember to bring your own! Plenty of bushes to gobble up balls for wayward shots
Condado de Alhama - Alhama Signature Golf Course
Played On 12/24/2018My favorite course in Murcia
My favorite course in Murcia. Well maintained and interesting layout. More elevation than usual in Murcia. Minimal facilities and relatively empty.
Ko'olau Golf Club
Played On 03/27/2018Spectacular scenery, challenging layout, just OK conditions
This is a true Jurassic golf experience. The scenery is spectacular - mountains directly line the course. The layout is challenging - be straight or bring a lot if extra balls. The conditions were ok - slow muni-esque greens and very long, uneven fairway grass. I lost balls that would just disappear even on the fairway. That said, I think the rough conditions contribute to the "jungle" experience: stay away if you're looking for perfect greens, but overall this is a unique, worthwhile golf experience.
TPC Jasna Polana
Played On 08/28/2016Challenging undulating layout, great condition
Usually private, I booked through the Citi Prestige card
In brief: A challenging course with a good degree of elevation and hole diversity
Pros: Tough, interesting layout, course in great shape, fantastic staff and locker room. Tee times spaced out at 15 mins intervals
Cons: A bit tough to walk, food not great, greens 3 out of 5
Bowling Green Golf Club
Played On 07/30/2016Nice course 1 hr from Manhattan
Overall: A top choice within 1 hr of Manhattan
Pros: Tree lined course+greens in nice shape (should be beautiful in fall), amazing pace of play! (threesome in less than 4 hours on a Saturday morning)
Cons: Front nine a bit unimaginative, greens fairly pedestrian, on course facilities average
Celebration Golf Club
Played On 07/22/2016Solid course though not elite
In brief: A solid course though not elite. A notch below Tranquilo and Waldorf Astoria.
Pros: Course in good not great shape. Fairly interesting layout on the back 9. Good pace of play in the afternoon. Good for groups.
Cons: No cart GPS, lake for a driving range. Front 9 is fairly pedestrian.
Waldorf Astoria Golf Club
Played On 07/20/2016Fine course in great shape with wicked greens!
In brief: A great course with very undulating greens, among the 3 courses I played in Orland, this was a close 2nd to Tranquilo
Pros: Tough, interesting layout, course in great shape, GPS cart, lots of water, plenty of risk / reward, a true test of golf!
Cons: Fairways are narrow so hit it straight!
Tranquilo Golf Club at Four Seasons Resort Orlando
Played On 07/18/2016Best course I played in Orlando!
In brief: This was the best course I played in Orlando (Waldorf Astoria was a close 2nd, Celebration was 3rd)
Pros: Compelling layout (each hole distinct), generous manicured fairways, great practice facilities, GPS cart, greens in great shape
Cons: not a huge fan of the Par 3 finishing hole
New York Country Club
Played On 07/16/2016Solid course near Manhattan
Pros: Course in good shape, variety of hole design, greens very undulating providing a good challenge. Close proximity to Manhattan.
Cons: Four holes have severe elevation and are a bit of a joke. Some greens and quality of some bunkers could be in better shape. No walking option. A bit expensive, function of proximity to Manhattan
We really appreciate the thorough review, Inorv9! We're glad you had a nice time at the course. We'll take a look at some of those cons in the near future and see what we can do about improving the greens and bunkers. That said, feel free to come back sometime in the future -- we're always happy to have you!
Black at Bethpage State Park Golf Course
Played On 07/08/2016Best public course in New York
Best public course in New York. If you can play one course in the state, play this one! Prepare for a 5 hour round and a humbling experience.... that said, this is golf in its purest form.... Unforgettable!
Yas Links Golf Course
Played On 07/30/2015Best course in UAE
Challenging and undulating course, true to its "links" design. Breathtaking views as many holes run along the turquoise waters of a mangrove-lined bay. Fairways in immaculate condition, however any wayward shots are harshly punished by either deep rough or water. Sumptuous Spanish style clubhouse. Overall a tremendous golfing experience.... if you can only play one course in U.A.E., play here!
Broad Run Golfer's Club
Played On 05/01/2014Nice course with plenty of elevation
Fun yet challenging course. Lots of elevation so impossible to walk. Every hole is different, except for the par 3s which all seem to be downhill. Fairways and greens in great shape. A bit of a hike from Philadelphia, but worth it every once in a while!
Thank you inorv9 for the comments and choosing to play at Tranquilo.
