Bridges/Lakeview at Waushara Country Club
Played On 09/02/2023Great Experience
My buddies and I went to this course for one of our golf outings. It was a challenging but fun course layout. The pace of play was fast. My only complaint/annoyance was the abundance of geese on the Lakeside course and the greens was littered with an abundance of excrement. Otherwise the staff was friendly.
Broken Arrow Golf Club - South/East
Played On 05/20/2023Pace of Play
I’ve played Broken Arrow multiple times hoping it would get better, but unfortunately it has not. This most recent time the greens were as thick as carpet, but was worse was that there was a bachelor party of 12 guys holding pace of play, and the rangers did not do anything to speed it up. For the price there are better courses.
University Park Golf Club
Played On 05/22/2021You get what you pay for
I’ve played University Park multiple times due to its proximity and it is one of the cheaper courses in the area. When I took my friends to golf over the weekend, they had landscapers out which isn’t a problem except that it was during the prime time hours.
However the landscaping was much needed because the rough was more like fescue you’d see in a links style course making balls hit even the fringe of the rough almost impossible to find.
I will still continue to golf this course due to its price but if the course is poorly maintained there are other courses to play.
Water's Edge Golf Club
Played On 04/03/2021Rolling Downhill
Usually a mid tier course in my ranking of Chicagoland courses, Water’s Edge is trending in the wrong direction. I am willing to overlook the lack of there being a starter and patches of torn up fairway and attribute it to being early in the season and business of a holiday weekend. The round took about 5+ hours being bottlenecked at certain holes.
The challenging course layout and was offset by the course conditions. I will give Water’s Edge the benefit of the doubt this time and see if it improves.
Stony Creek Golf Course
Played On 05/18/2018You get what you pay for
I play Stoney Creek a couple times a year due to its price. You get what you pay for in terms of courses. It’s a pretty easy course. The greens aren’t in the best conditions. This last time I played however, the pace of play was pretty bad it might as well have been Memorial Day or the 4th of July it was so awful. Somehow the ranger put two groups of 5, then a group of 4 older gentlemen that slowed down the pace of play to the point where it ruined an otherwise beautiful day. I will still play this course in the future but if the pace of play was as bad as this last time out, I will spend my money elsewhere
Prairie Bluff Public Golf Club
Played On 09/09/2016Great Course
This is one of my favorite courses to play in the south suburbs. The course is well maintained. With the exception of one gentleman, the staff is very friendly. The pace of play is average. Finding a good deal online just sweetens the deal. Love me some Prairie Bluff.
Bob O'Connor Golf Course at Schenley Park/The First Tee of Pittsburgh
Played On 08/20/2016Unique Course
This was my first time visiting PIT and I was looking for a course in the city. I played this course with a group of 3 friends. It was a unique course to say the least. The course plays pretty short. The tee boxes are mats which was unique. What made this course interesting was that certain holes played through a semi busy street which is not for the faint of heart. It was a good source of cardio because of the steep inclines. We started on the 3rd tee because holes 1 and 2 were reserved for lessons for kids that morning. I did not realize that this was a walking only course, but pull carts were provided. It was an affordable course. It was nicely kept. I would recommend it just for the courses that played through the strets.
Del-Mar Golf Course
Played On 08/19/2016Move Along
I went to PIT for vacation and decided to try to golf here based on reviews + price. You definitely get what you pay for. It was difficult to distinguish the the fairway from the rough, it might have all been rough actually. What was as difficult to distinguish is the ball from the mushrooms growing everywhere. The only positive is that the back nine has some decent views. Move along.
