Gillette Ridge
Played On 09/16/2020Good course,so-so condition
The course was not in good condition, but playable. Green tee boxes were mostly non existent,,,they were spots in fairways, skimpy grass, lots of divots unfilled with sand. Green were fast, but many ball marks that other players failed to fix. No more red tee boxes and women's yardage reduced a lot. Why are drop zones put on the green side of hazards? Drop zones were not well marked or manicured. Will I play here again? Probably not. Maybe you can blame it on the pandemic that the course was in not so good condition>>>>hmmmm.

Twosome behind our foursome hit into us. Groundskeeper yelled at us for being in a roped off area, BUT, it was not fully roped off and we drove thru the opening. Course is challenging, greens were in great condition, rough was too high for me to get out (Sr. citizen, female). I'd play here again because it's less than 8 miles away. I did comment to the 3 men in my group that the course seems unfair for women because there were no other women there!!!
Crestbrook Park Golf Course
Played On 07/15/2020Not for my game
Slope 132 for women. If they would build th red tee boxes closer on every hole it would be fair for women. I'm thinking they don't because not many women play there because of the length of the holes and the terrain. Getting your bag to where the carts and pro shop are is like walking up Mt, Washington. At 76 yrs old and having a handicap flag, that doesn't work for me. 2 of the par 3's were over 170 yards...for women??? Greens were slow and the maintenance workers did not stop mowing or spreading insecticide while we were hitting. And our tee time was in the middle of a men's league so we had to let 3 groups thru. And boy were they SLOW. I won't go back. My handicap is 18, but you couldn't tell on this course. If they move up the red tees, yes I'd go back, but now I'd only recommend it to men.

I was a member there for many years. The course was in very good condition and the pace was good. However, they had 4 forward tee boxes that were moved up into the fairways which made the holes playing at a different par and not according to the scorecard, rating or slope. How to screw up your handicap. Just because the few women that belong there can't play from the normal tee boxes according to the scorecard doesn't mean women that come to play should have to. For the record, I played from where the red markers were supposed to be. Also, the men's gold tees rating/slope is a joke.

The tee boxes and fairways were terrible. The pace of play was very slow because folks in front of me needed lessons as they hit the ball all over the place. I quit after 9 holes and got a rain check which I did not use. This course used to be very well kept...not any more.
Stanley Golf Course - White/Red
Played On 06/07/2019Some complaints
First, the starter had a problem because we had a tee time and they had an outing and somehow he'd get us in 18 holes. How is Golfnow supposed to know they have an outing if the course doesn't let you know? Secondly, the fairways are mowed so tight you gat many lies that are a challenge. Third, the bunkers were not raked, the staff was still mowing and on many tee boxes the red tees were not replaced. Last, the way to the next hole were quite confusing considering each of the 3 sets of nine holes criss cross each other...and I've played this course numerous times!

I was a member at Pequabuck for a number of years, but not since 2007. The course was in fabulous condition considering the extraordinary amounts of rain here the last 6 weeks. The course was much harder than I remember but then again I'm now 75 and I don't hit it as far any more!! The greens were perfect and the bunkers raked...unlike some places I've played. Don't let the yardages from the different tees fool ya...this course is challenging. Play it to find out!!! The biggest advantage...gold tees.

Beautiful course...But unfair due to crowned greens, streams running through many fairways etc. Slope should be higher. The grounds crew were in front of us raking bunkers(and in one he left a huge rock...huh???) and on one hole we waited for the hole to be replaced...huh? They should be done with that before tee times star. I guess the young men(high school and college guys) can't get out of bed early. On a good deal I'd play there again as it's about 10 miles from my home, but it would have to be a real good deal. find the course unfair...a struggle to hit my handicap.
Red at Tunxis Country Club
Played On 03/31/2018Despite the tree damage from winter storms, the fairways and greens were clear. Naturally in early spring, the grass hadn't grown and the hazard lines etc were unclear. The greens were good. Last time I played this 9 was probably ten+ years ago. I'll look forward to playing there again when the course conditions are ideal.
Hunter Golf Club
Played On 06/28/2017Wrong rating/slope
Hunter's website says the rating and slope for the red tees is 72.7/131. Their scorecard says 72.3/127. GHIN.com has a 3rd set of numbers. I used my G P S and the few holes I actually checked were a lot shorter than the scorecard. They've moved some red tee boxes up but have not been re-rated. The CSGA needs to get on it. Other than that messing with my handicap, the course was fun to play and challenging at the same time. I will play it again when the rating/slope is corrected.
