Played Galleon-Clipper course from the green tees (5400+ yards) and I thought it was the hardest course I played in the area. Used fairway/hybrids on 13 approaches hitting only 6 GIRs. Plenty of doglegs which added to the length of the holes. Shot in the mid 80's which was lower than the 90 degree temps. Layout was great but did not see any gators that we were warned about.

I do not drive the ball long so I played the Black/Green tees Still had 11 holes where I hit fairway/hybrids into the greens. Shot 77 with 31 putts with 12 FIRs and 11 GIRs, so it was a pretty good day. Plenty of doglegs to negotiate. If you do not hit a long ball, put aside your ego and have a better chance of scoring from the forward tees. You'll enjoy it.

My average drives are under 200 yrds so I played the Black/Green tees (5379 yards) which were adequate. I still hit hybrids/fairway woods into 9 of the 18 greens. But made up for that with 13 of 14 fairways and only 27 putts for a score of 80. My only gripe was that although I was on the tee sheet I was not in the system as having a reservation so there was the clerk at the pro shop would not honor the golfnow price.

Playing a Mike Strantz course is extremely challenging, even from the member tees which have a slope of 134. You have to work back from the pin positions to determine how to position your drive for the best angle to attack the pins. If you are not relatively close to the pins you are in for a long day and plenty of 3 putts, or worse on these fast and sloping greens. Bring your "A" game!

Played for the first time 2 days ago and decided on returning as I did not play as well as expected. Much better the 2nd time around as I was more at ease with getting the required angles to approach the greens which angled away from you or had pins tucked to the sides. Tough but enjoyable. Too bad the $ is a bit high but it looked like they were not lacking on golfers wanting to play the course.

Pace of play was stop and go. When we were waived through the group ahead of us on 12 there was no one ahead of us. Challenging course. Green tees ahead of the regular white tees were not listed on the card and seniors should consider playing from those as holes 5,6,7,8, 13 and 15 are long if you do not hit a long and straight tee shot. They will wear you down.

Course starts out with 4 fairly easy holes then punishes you on holes 5-8 and 9 if u do not carry the water. A little more friendly on the back nine except for the approaches on 11, 13 and 15. Definitely need your A game here.

Pace was slow as there was a single between us and the group ahead. Three group wait between 8 and 9th holes, then a 20 min wait to tee off on 9 and slow afterwards.

Nice layout with wide enough fairways. Hit 12 FIRs and 12 GIRs and Shot 74 from the White tees. Pace of play was great. Biggest disappointment was forgetting to see the
Llamas off the 14th fairway!

I have added this course as a favorite for future visits to the Richmond/Williamsburg area. The course was in great shape. Multiple teeboxes for all types of golfers. The landing areas off the tees were wide and ample enough to avoid the fairway bunkers. The approach shots were challenging as the greens were heavily guarded by bunkers. Course management is a must! Putts rolled well. Not busy the day I played so I played two balls and shot 80 from the white tees and 75 from the gold tees.

This is a good Donald Ross design course with plenty of doglegs and difficulties to avoid. Overall I thought the course was in good shape with a few fairways showing some wear. At least I did not have any 3 putts on these large and fast greens.

I was looking for a course to play while in Columbus, Ohio and found Cooks Creek, a delightful treat. The layout was surprisingly challenging, yet fair. Even with wide fairways you still had to think your way around for positioning approach shots into the greens. I thoroughly enjoyed playing every hole.

A very challenging course from any teebox where you have to think your way around. Planning your attack off the tee is a good start. Greens are quite contoured so it was a bit of a handicap not knowing where to place your approach shots, but the greens were smooth and roll pretty true. Use the online designer tips to help. Wish they had a course layout booklet to purchase!

I enjoy this course immensely. The layout is fantastic and challenging. Always nice to get a complementary warm-up bucket of balls. Pace of play was great. Fairway grass and putting surfaces were well kept and the rough was not penal.

Ok, so decided to play on Monday thru GolfNow at Hobbit's Glen at the walking rate (additional $18 if you want to ride) ... have not walked a course in several years. Very hilly course and the walking was tiring ... so I am feeling to the day after .... we were sandwiched between riding groups but did not hold anyone up. Greens were unusually slow but rolled very nicely. Fairways were excellent. Overall, worth the effort to play this course!

Really enjoyed playing here. Was looking for a course that would be friendly to my wife as well as challenging at my skill level and this fit the bill. With water on every hole, it did come into play more than a few times on my drives. And we were just thrilled to see egrets, herons, anhingas, ibises, alligators and even the two bald eagles that reside there!! Hard to keep your mind on golf with all that going on around you! Worth the visit!

I found the course very playable, in spite of the AM rain it received. I thought the water hazards, placed on 13 of the 18 holes to be more for aesthetics than obstacles to avoid,. As long as you could control your shots they did not come into play. Greens were in fantastic condition, mildly undulating and fast which led to some 3 putts. Play was a little slow but that allowed me to study the holes better and plan my play accordingly. Very enjoyable round of golf.
