Woodmont Golf & Country Club
Played On 08/05/2017Top notch
Enjoyable relaxing course with a good mix of challenging and easy holes. Slight elevation changes would make the course an enjoyable walking round. The fairways are the best in the North GA area. The ball almost sits like it's on a tee. The greens could make this course 5 stars, but I believe they are recovering from aeration as the grounds crew were out the entire round syringing the greens. The rough was thick and healthy, but not unmanageable. The range was just average in respect to turf. The staff was very friendly from the pro shop to starter to roving ambassador. Woodmont is a class course.
The Golf Club At Bradshaw Farm - Red Nine
Played On 09/28/2015Nice changes
I played on a Monday morning and the parking lot was FULL. No tournament going on or anything. I was amazed at how good the greens were. I mean outstanding!! Best greens I've played all year and I've played everywhere. I've never really cared for the layout of Bradshaw, but those greens are tour caliber. They hardly leave a ball mark and are lightning fast. Definitely take 5 minutes to practice putt if you are used to average speed greens. If some of my favorite courses had greens like these I would have to book ahead at least a week.
Oak Mountain Championship Golf Course
Played On 07/14/2015Not Disappointed
It was an hour and a half drive for me to get there, but well worth it. The tee boxes were in great shape as were the fairways. It isn't an immaculately manicured course, but the playing area is well kept.
It is a very fair course with a different challenge on each tee box. Small to long length par 3's. Some risk/reward on par 4's depending on how aggressive of a line you to take. The par 5's are not so foreboding that you can't pull out a 3 wood to try to reach the green. I found it to be not to not too difficult and not too easy. It was the perfect balance without so much defenses around the greens that you couldn't attack pins. It does require some fairway accuracy which are quite wide because the rough can stifle a GIR.
Great views of a picturesque lake on the 9th and 13th holes. Be sure to take in the golf experience and view on the 13th. A great course to play during The Open week.
Callahan Golf Links
Played On 07/28/2014Good value, but just average
I don't understand why all the hype on golf now about this course. I'm just glad the price isn't reflected in just how proud they are of this course. It is actually below average. There are a lot of dead spots in fairways and around greens, and I don't know when they're going to make a decision on what to do with that huge hole in the ground in front of the 12th green. A course deserving a 4 star rating is in much better shape than this, and certainly is not working on a bunker for 6 months. The whole course is ground under repair to me. it's worth a little more than a bucket of range balls to play.
Cherokee Run Golf Club
Played On 8/24/2013Was worth the trip
I read reviews before going, and all were positive so I made the trip from Acworth to Conyers. Layout exceeded expectations. Greens were a fast and true mini verde kept in great shape. The ball runs out quite a bit, even with backspin. The bunkers were great, and there are many. The fairways were in great shape. I didn't have many bad lies, even in the rough. There aren't many sidehill lies, primarily uphill lies. Elevation changes can be tricky, especially with the firm and fast greens. The course is alone in the woods. A nice break from neighborhood backyard golf courses. I would love to go back early on a weekday and play it alone. This course has many forced carries which makes it a fun round.
Grande Pines Golf Club
Played On 5/4/2013One of the top 3 courses I've ever played.
When I got to the parking lot, there was an attendant waiting to take my bag down to the cart. All the staff I encountered were very friendly and informative and treated me like a welcome guest.
The course was in excellent condition. I played the same day an IMG event was wrapping up. The layout plays open and tight. Some holes don't need driver, just shotmaking. I thought the course was very much in front of you, but false fronts and elevated greens can make clubbing trickier. The greens rolled true and somewhat fast.
I've played golf in Myrtle Beach and all over and this course is comparable to Arnolds King's North only better. Well done maintenance staff.
