Ridge Top Golf Course
Played On 07/17/2023Stay in the fairway!
My score blew up on the 1st/4th/5th holes bc I avoided the fairways. More doglegs than most courses. If you are a single player, expect to share a cart with other single players. In this case, the man I shared the cart with was quite helpful with advice on the course & recommendations on the game, clubs, balls, & club fitting. Fairways & greens were in excellent shape. #6 is a challenging lengthy uphill hole. #10 can be a rough tee shot; #18 is a par 3 that is a nice way to end the round. There may be an approach with a carry over water on the 16th hole. A lot of holes on the front nine when you're best putting from the front of the green in order to have uphill putts. A lot of parallel fairways on the back nine.

Played On 05/08/2023Watch out for #11
Staff in clubhouse was friendly. Staff made sure you were on task when it came to returning the golf cart. The green complex at #11 is difficult. Played harder than its slope indicates. You cannot drive your golf cart in the parking lot. Price of round was after a $20 discount.
Iron Horse Golf Course
Played On 09/22/2021Getting better
Price was after a discount. Played the "horse track" set of tees, and planting the tee in the ground was difficult at #3, #14, & #15.
One even appreciates the course even more on #11 when you see the rush hour traffic on the nearby interstate.
Irving Golf Club
Played On 09/15/2021No fly rule in September
I'd previously reviewed this course in August 2020. Over one year later, I didn't notice the flies on the back nine that I had previously.
Price of round is after a discount code.
My aged GPS watch was good for the front 9 as long as I dialed in holes 10-18.
For those of you who are not fans of courses that run through neighborhoods, this is the course for you! It's a pretty open course in general.
Some of the tee boxes were dried out and the fairways appeared a little dry. On this date, the starter informed us that the greens were running a 10 on the stimpmeter.
Compared to August 2020, there were 3-5 watercoolers on the course. Bottled water was still provided prior to the round. There was access to bathrooms at some point on both nines.
WinStar Golf Course - Scissortail
Played On 08/02/2021Potpourri
Pro shop staff was friendly; good deals exist on divot repair tools, certain caps, & ball markers!
The clubhouse is under construction so the pro shop is in a trailer & bathrooms near the pro shop are luxuriously portable.
The restroom on the back nine (between #13 & #14) smelled of potpourri!
Several greens (I recall 6, 9, 11-12, 18) & fairways sustained damage since the last time I was here last August. The black/blue/white/probably gold tees were all moved up to the red tee area on #12.
The amount of $ I paid was after discounts and taxes.
Iron Horse Golf Course
Played On 07/21/2021Better
Having first played the course >a month ago, the experience was better at the least because of familiarity with the surroundings.
The tee boxes are less difficult to plant a tee into, as I recall this only happening on one hole. The beverage cart dropped by 2-3x. The GPS-enabled carts will stop or slow you down when you get well off the fairway or cart path.
Bathrooms (in the physical form of a train car) are present in the #7/#10 tee box area as well as to the left of the green on #15. They remain spacious.
For my twosome, a $20 voucher was utilized. There is a putting green near #1 tee, another putting green near the clubhouse, and a driving range.
Compared to other courses I've rated, missing the fairways can be penal. The greens did have a punched feel about them.
Hills at Pecan Valley Municipal Golf Course
Played On 07/18/2021Efficient Sunday
Tee boxes, fairways, & greens were in pretty good shape considering the effects of the February winter storm on the courses in the area. Range balls may end up on the turf of the 17th & 18th holes. Putting greens exist near the clubhouse & between #1 tee/#18 green as there is a significant distance between the clubhouse & #1.
Several watercoolers are on the course.
Depending on how you play, several fairways run parallel to each other; a wayward left drive on #15 could end up on the turf of #2 for instance.
A right-to-left ball flight is helpful on the par 3 7th, the par 4 10th, the par 3 11th, & the par 4 18th.
This is one of the better courses cost-wise to play on a weekend if it is available on the TeeOff/GolfNow platform. The cost for the round reflects the use of a voucher that took it down from the low 30+ dollar range.
Whitestone Golf Course
Played On 07/14/2021Recommend with an asterisk
If you walk during the round, keep in mind that it is an uphill walk between holes 10 and 11.
Popcorn in the clubhouse, one bottle of water for each player, and cold towels available were nice touches.
The price i paid is after discount and with taxes included. Make sure when you decide whether to play this course the fact that temporary greens are on holes 7, 10, 12-16. Ergo pin position as exists on the scorecard is nonexistent at this time.
A lot of holes have wide open drives present.
Forced carries can/do exist on #5, #7 (usually but not now), #9, #16.
Small ditches can play a role on #12 & #13.
I only recommend playing Whitestone if you have friends playing there, it's convenient time or location wise, or if you're not paying full price.
We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. We aim for a 5-star experience, so we always welcome feedback for improvement. Thank you for playing Whitestone Golf Course.
Iron Horse Golf Course
Played On 06/16/2021Middle Six
The tee boxes in the middle six holes in particular are difficult to plant a tee into. Fairways were in good shape.
The course ranger was predominantly present for the front nine; the beverage cart dropped by frequently.
I don't recall an excessive amount of "cart path only" holes.
Bathrooms (in the physical form of a train car) are present in the #7/#10 tee box area as well as in the middle of the back nine. They are spacious.
For my twosome, a $5 voucher was utilized.
There is an automatic water bottle filling machine in the clubhouse between the men's and women's bathrooms. There is a putting green near #1 and a driving range.
There are decently placed signs instructing you where the next hole is. Unfortunately, there is no course map on the scorecard.
I do hope that the yardages the GPS provides are accurate. It can be difficult to find the ball in the rough.
#7 & #10 each involve a carry over the water twice.
Cleburne Golf Links
Played On 06/02/202116th Hole
A temporary green which decreases the distance of #16 by 100-150 yards exists.
Watercoolers are back. Bathrooms are after #5, near the end of #10, & after #12.
Course isn't in as good of shape as it was in July 2020.
Cleburne Golf Links
Played On 05/05/2021Makeshift 16th green
My 3rd time playing the course & the least windy of the rounds I've played there. Price was such because of a $10 voucher.
A lot of brown spots on the course. The 16th green was several yards in front of the usual green and is speedier than you think.
Ample space to practice your game. The location on Lake Pat Cleburne gives it an isolated feel. A yardage guide is available near the front desk. Lots of areas considered native in the rough.
Water coolers were back! Bathrooms exist after #10 and in a common area after #5 and after #12 where the front & back nine overlap.
The #5 fairway is a little tighter because of the presence of trees in this ever-so-slight dogleg right. Choose your teeoff club wisely on #10 because a certain length of drive will roll into the creek in front of the green on this downhill hole.
Enjoy the wide open drives on #s 13 & 15.
Southern Oaks Golf Club
Played On 04/21/2021A good test
I used a $20 Golf Now voucher on this course I've been wanting to play for a while. It helped to have a playing partner who'd played the course before.
Prior to the round, I watched the YouTube videos of flyovers for each hole, which I found helpful.
The combined tennis/pro shop was somewhat hard to find (it's on the way left of the parking lot near the tennis courts). There is ample space for the practice area, which consists of the driving range, practice putting green, & an area for practicing chipping/pitching/sand shots.
Further advice I received from my playing partner was NOT to miss the 2nd green long. The course is convenient--to the Burleson Airport!
Gainesville Municipal Golf Course
Played On 12/07/2020A Convenient Walk
The front nine using the white tees comes in at 3453 yds & is a par 37 with three par-fives.
#1 is one of the most open par 5s you will ever encounter. You can encounter water on #2 if you are way right.
For those with a left-to-right ball flight, #3 has a tree right before the water that can affect the path of the ball.
Appropriate placement of the tee shot on #5 is paramount as the hole doglegs right at a 90 degree angle.
On #9, you can increase the likelihood of carrying the water by guiding the ball right on the 2nd shot.
A right-to-left ball flight is ideal on the dogleg left that is #13.
#15 is one of the most open par 4s you will ever encounter.
The setup of #17 is such that if you have a left-to-right ball flight you should take the tee shot over the water.
Several greens (for instance, #7, 12, 13, 15) are small & raised just enough that chipping onto them from the sides can be difficult
There isn't much distance between holes if you're walking.
Riverside Golf Club
Played On 12/03/2020Cold perfect day
This is a pretty wide open course with a spacious pro shop.
If using a motorized cart, be vigilant while driving between #14 and #15 (the latter is under construction) bc strictly/blindly following the cart path can be treacherous. Otherwise, the cart paths are pretty nice.
I was amused by the absence of #13 from the map on the scorecard.
Rain can leave portions of the course pretty muddy. Port-a-potties are after #5 & after #15.
Waterview Golf Club
Played On 11/25/2020Good place to shop
On the back nine, there is a bathroom between holes 14 & 15. As this round was during the holidays, there were good specials on attire in the pro shop.
Old at Firewheel Golf Park
Played On 11/24/2020"Old" but still challenging
Bathroom facility is near end of #2 and #6 (it's the same one). Edges of the green were occasionally burnt out/dry but the greens otherwise were in great shape. Golf carts do come with USB chargers.
A big tree in the left rough can come into play on the approach on #13. There is a narrow entry to the fairway on #16 and you must stay left because of the large body of water between it and #18.
The tee shot on the dogleg left 18th is usually purposed for giving one an angle for the approach to the green.
Thorntree Country Club
Played On 11/17/2020Easy start, tough finish
#18 handicap hole follows the #15 handicap hole to start the round, though #1, #2, #4 handicap holes are in the hole 3-8 stretch. #2 is a slightly uphill wedge to an undulating green. Make sure you look at the course map on the scorecard so you can plot out your 2nd shot on the par-5 4th.
There is a narrow entry to the fairway on #6. A large pond borders the entirety of the 8th so miss left on the tee shot if need be. It's easier to play the par-5 9th & par-5 15th using the left compared to the right side of the hole.
There are bathroom facilities at the turn as well as midway through #13.
#11, the #5 handicap hole, is tough because of the hazards on the left of the hole, which tends to slope left as well. #12 also slopes to the left and is uphill. Make sure you position your tee shot on #13 to the right so that you don't have a tall tree to hit over on your approach.
#14 is a blind tee shot from an elevated tee. #16 is a difficult approach in that bunkers surround the green & there is a forced carry over water. #17 is uphill; #18 has quite the false front and a narrow entry to the fairway, particularly for those who favor a left-to-right ball flight.
Course was in good shape; #10 fairway was dry on this day; tee boxes appeared dry but it wasn't impossible to tee the ball.
Plantation Resort Golf Club
Played On 11/15/2020A Sunday unlike any other
Several holes have water during the hole; make sure you look for the markers near the tee box that inform you about the distances to and over those hazards.
Sunset was 525 pm on this day for a round our group of 3 started at 140 pm & completed at 552 pm. Traffic did pile up at the 18th (2-3 groups in front of us), and we played the last hole in the dark.
The course does have homes and apartments bordering the holes and weaves through neighborhoods. A cart girl was present during the round as well.
Greens were in relatively good shape, & tee boxes weren't particularly hardened.
Water does surround a few greens, so be vigilant with your approaches as well as your strokes in & around the green!
Bear Creek Golf Club - West Course
Played On 09/29/2020The Bear Is Not In Hibernation
The Tag Marshal GPS system in the golf cart looked great for the scant amount of time it was up & running before it would shut itself down.
The bunkers were in below average condition (I probably should have played them as ground under repair because it cost me several strokes during the round) as were some of the tees, in particular #13 where it'd be impossible to tee a ball with multiple types of tees.
As should be the case, there are certain tee shots that cater to those who work the ball left-to-right and certain tee shots that cater to those who work the ball right-to-left.
For the beginning to average player, the sidehill/downhill/uphill lies provide a challenge throughout the course.
The approach to #5 is a downhill one fraught with water in front of the green and a steep downhill slope behind the green that ends up with the ball either in the the tee area of #6 or just as likely the woods.
#6, #7, & #17 can be a difficult tee shot for those with the left-to-right ball flight.
For some reason, the two times I've played the East course it seems easy for course traffic to bottleneck.
Tangle Ridge Golf Club
Played On 09/23/2020Second time
Price so good because I had a GolfNow promo code.
The course had me start on #10 this time around.
Reading the hole description on the website is good to read for course guidance.
Greens were fast. Tee boxes, fairways, & greens were in good shape.
It appears that portions are under renovation, as the wooded area 100-150 yards in front of the par-5 8th green has been chopped down.
Thank you for taking the time to review us, disaradi. Your feedback is valuable, and we appreciate your business. Irving Golf Club thanks you!
