Greensburg Country Club
Played On 07/25/2014Nice track
My wife and I played the course on a Friday with excellent weather. Found the course in great condition. The greens held shots nicely and we observed no bare spots in the fairways. The greens on the front side were much smaller overall than the greens on the backside...resulting in some unanticipated 3-putt greens.
The only downside of the day was a group of 4 yahoos a couple of groups in front of us who were trying to play a 2-man scramble. They held up the 4-ball group immediately in front of us, our 2-ball, and a 4-ball group behind us for the entire back nine. By the end of our day, there were at least 4 empty holes in front of them.
The bright side is that a slow round of golf on a beautiful day beats the heck out of any kind of day at the office. We will be back.
Oaktree Golf Course
Played On 06/07/2014Nice course...BUT
Needs a ranger on the weekends to ensure a proper pace of play. While my wife and I played as a twosome and understood that we would have some time between shots, the course really got backed up on the back nine by an intoxicated foursome a couple of groups in front of us that shouldn't have been allowed to run amuck.
Designwise, the course was one of Pete Dye's earlier products (sans railroad ties) and had numerous forced carries to greens that often sloped front to back, making it difficult for us to hold a shot. Several of the forward tees were not in good condition and needed to be rebuilt or improved to justify the regular cost of the greens fee. There were no senior rates for weekend play...which didn't make a lot of sense for this "senior citizen."
The weather was fabulous, however, and any day on a golf course far exceeds any day not on a golf course.
While I recommend the course to others, I would not likely play this course again unless I could do so for a reduced rate from a golf discounter such as GolfNow.com.
The Legends at Orange Lake Resort
Played On 05/26/2014Arnie doesn't disappoint
Wonderfully designed track. Front nine especially difficult for me. Arnie gives a player room to play safe/bail out or be aggressive. If you choose the latter, be prepared to post some big numbers if you stray to the left. Course was in great condition after a hot, dry spell. Staff was friendly and courteous.
Rated an 8 out of 10
Grande Pines Golf Club
Played On 05/24/2014Well Maintained Resort Course
Nice, wide fairways. Smooth greens which putted true. Friendly staff, and the course is convenient to Disney attractions.
I want to get back there to play it again before it is closed and bulldozed in to become a commercial housing development. Makes no sense to me, but the ownership has recently changed, and it's all about money, I guess.
Providence Golf Club
Played On 05/23/2014In Disappointing Condition
Having played this course last November, the condition of this course has deteriorated markedly. The front nine was in bad shape, with the 8th green being completely rebuilt, and we had to play a temporary green. To its credit, the course is well designed, but the lack of GPS and the need for some TLC makes for a difficult time justifying the cost to play there. In fact, were it not for a GolfNow.com discounted rate, I would not have played it. Hopefully, the greenskeepers can get their act together and restore the course to its original condition in the next few months.
I rate the course a 6 out of 10.
Falcon's Fire Golf Club
Played On 05/22/2014Nice course
Every hole was highly different from the preceding one. Tees and greens were in good condition, in spite of a hot, dry spell of a couple of weeks without rain. Friendly staff. A tad expensive but I enjoyed the experience.
Rating: 8 out of 10
Highlands Reserve Golf Club
Played On 05/21/2014Nice course...BUT
Hot weather adversely impacted the condition of the course. Lots of bare spots, and there was no water on the course for the players. Apparently the irrigation system was being worked on, and once you left the clubhouse, you were on your own.
I rated it a 6 out of 10.
Wood Wind Golf Club
Played On 10/14/2013Disappointed with pace of play
Hadn't played the course in over 25 years when it was known as Hanging Tree GC. The course was as I remembered with lots of forced carries over a meandering creek that still presented a challenge for me, even from the Senior (gold) tees.
My wife and I were behind a twosome which was behind a disgustingly slow foursome that was oblivious to the groups that were playing behind them. Further compounding our situation was a foursome behind us that kept hitting into us.
The course was in good condition overall, and we rationalized the experience that a bad day on the links was definitely better than a good day working for a living.
Buffer Park Golf Course
Played On 4/22/2013Best 9-Holer in Indiana
Greens are just coming in after an unusually cold Spring and were slow-putting and a bit bumpy. Recent heavy rains have the fairways green and lush. Another two weeks or so of warm weather will turn the course into what I've come to expect.
I always enjoy playing Buffer, and look forward to playing it again soon.
