150 years old for a reason

Bottom line - this course has staying power because it’s got a challenging layout and meticulous greens keeping. Don’t let the short distance fool you as this course will test your game.

From tee to green the course was in excellent shape. Tee boxes flat and nice. Fairways were trim. But the greens. Oh the greens. Fabulous. Probably the nicest greens I’ve seen in years and certainly the fastest. Course is walkable with some good elevation changes. Definitely recommend.

So close to being just right. Needs eight weeks

Disclaimer - Played this course during winter conditions. The good: course layout is great. Challenging but fair. Things were a bit soggy but that’s expected. Bunkers are hard but understandable considering the unending rain. The bigger issue is the greens. Generally they are good but a handful have some bald spots which was likely a winter fungus issue. At least that’s what I’ve seen before. That said, the issue was clearly identified and being fixed. Once the weather warms up, I think this will clear up nicely and the greens will be amazing. Even with the greens I highly recommend the course and intent to play it a lot!!

Great track thwarted by a 8 slow groups!

Simply put - track is phenomenal and lives up to the hype. Tee to green was great. I wouldn’t hesitate to play this track again if. .

Bad - There was a group of 32 players (8 groups) playing in their own mini-tourney. No issues there in general until your group takes 3 hrs to make the turn. We sped ahead on the back nine to hit 16-18, then back around to 10-15. My question was where was the Marshall to help speed them along? We finished, hurriedly, as the daylight went away. That’s frustrating. If we don’t go ahead, it would’ve been a 6 hr round! Unacceptable. I’ll take this as a one-off, but you expect better from such a good track.

Always a good track, always a good value.

This is one of my go-to tracks in the IE with good reason. Greens are in excellent shape and roll true. (Wish people would fix their balls marks, but that’s never gonna happen apparently.) Tee boxes are flat and in good shape. Fairways are starting to come out of the winter dormancy and will be in great shape come spring. Pace of play with an 0823 tee time was 4+25, but could be a lil longer in the afternoon. Overall - highly recommend.

Great course in Winter Conditions

Second time playing the course and it's definitely challenging. Bad shots will make you pay. Here's the quick summary - It's a great course in winter conditions otherwise the condition would get a 5. Shouldn't be a surprise there. The tee boxes are nice. Due to the weather, the fairways are a bit firm but there is no bare spots to speak of. Greens were rolling nice (supposedly a 10). Pace of play was 4+30 which I'll take any day. Course knowledge is key as they have a lot of sloping fairways. Luckily, the staff was great and gave me a quick run down.
Beyond the course, their amenities are some of the best I've seen. Great bar/restaurant area overlooking the 1st hole. Range is conveniently located and they have lots of good quick options for food at the turn (Try the Philly. It's really good). Lastly, beverage cart came through at least four times. Without a doubt, worth the money.

It’s a Muni.

This course is exactly what most people consider as an average municipal golf course. Nothing fancy or horrid, just a fairly decent priced course. Don’t expect things to be amazing. They’re not. But if you have six hours and don’t want to drive, this might suit your needs. Yes six hours. This is LA. Pace of play is generally awful and when you have courses that allow five players, it’s going to be a long day. Staff is generally pretty nice though.

Good value

Overall a good experience. Tee boxes were generally flat. Fairways are decent. The course has rooted old trees so there are spots where the fairways are a bit bumpy. Couple greens including the first are actively being repaired but still playable. Additionally the greens were aerated but should be good in a week. Staff was very friendly although the beverage cart was done at 2pm. Too early in my opinion. Driving Range is only ~220 yards so you might not be able to hit woods in warmup. In the end, it’s good value for the money.

As expected and that's how it should be!!

I was told to play this course years ago, but never quite got to it. Finally made and it generally lived up to the expectation.

Tee boxes - Lots of options for varying skill levels.
Fairways - Good condition. Couple thin spots, but perfectly acceptable.
Greens - Couple greens needed a little work. There were some dead spots or some active patches trying to recover. It didn't really affect their playability though. Good news is the greenskeepers recognize it and are trying to remedy. Greens were quite slow and could've used a trim. Otherwise, good to go.

Couple other notes - Whoever decided pin placements this past weekend was a sadistic individual. It wasn't one or two devious positions, the majority were super difficult.
The Landing is a good lil joint to grab lunch and the beverage cart came around fairly often. In fact, probably the most I've seen a beverage cart in a long time. Kudos to them.

Overall - I'd recommend to others and will play again. Hopefully with nicer tee positions.

Still a challenge, still fun.

Played this track a few times and it never disappoints. Always worth the 1+ hr drive. Slight winter conditions but in really great shape. Greens are nice albeit hard and fast (It is winter.) Only complaint is that pace of play was abnormally slow. I’ll still go back. Beautiful course.

Could be appealing in spring / no range

Booked because of the overall 4-star rating and plenty of good decent reviews. Sadly was a bit disappointed. I can deal with a short track with narrow fairways, but many of the fairways were patchy. It’s never good when you hit the short grass and your ball rolls out into the mud between two polyps of grass. Not massive mud, just intermixed. Many tee boxes were under repair with a good handful not level at all. I’ll chalk it up to winter conditions and COVID. I will say that the greens were pretty decent and the staff was super friendly. There were some nice mountain views that were even better with the recent dust of snow. In the end, it’s a 3.2ish star course. Worth the price? Eh. Nothing super fancy and as much as I’d like to give it 4 stars, it’s not there. Perhaps it’s better in the spring.

Lastly, no range so you better be warm before you get there.

Don’t let the short porch lull you to sleep

Reviews on here are true to form. Nice track. Greens rolled beautifully. Fairways - gotta be accurate because this is definitely a shotmakers track. Only pulled out driver on a few holes. Overall - challenging track, but fun. Pace of play for a weekend was good at 4.5hrs. Will play again.

Nice course with excellent value

Sierra Lakes is always a nice round and never ceases to make me appreciate it. I agree with other reviewers that they need to rake the traps and give golfers sand in their cart to fix divots, but in the end, they’re just making it harder on themselves. The first tees were pushed up to help the far back tee boxes recover, otherwise boxes were good. Fairways are in good shape. Greens are receptive, but need to be rolled to ensure a true roll. I think they’ll be aerating them soon. Only issue i really had was the driving range mats. They were soaked and dirty. Every hit off them resulted in a thin coating of mud. Minor in the grand scheme and I’ll be back for another enjoyable round.

What a Gem!!

This is what a golf course should be and for the price, what a deal. Tee boxes are nice. Fairways are trimmed. Greens are receptive and roll nicely. Even 1st/2nd cut are what you'd expect. Was greeted at reception, bought a bucket, and warmed up. The driving range, chipping area, and putting green are top notch. Even the practice balls looked new-ish. Got called to the tee box on-time and was grouped up to start. No issues throughout the round. Layout was challenging, but not sadistic. The condition and upkeep of the course were seriously great. I can't rave enough about it. Pace of play was really nice as we finished in 3+45. The drink cart came through a few times and was attended to by a lovely lady. Overall - I plan to play Goose again and again (Assuming I can get a tee time.)

Average course - very cramped

This course got really good reviews so I figured I’d check it out. Let’s start with the good. Greens were nice and pace of play was great. Now the bad. The course is super cramped in. Tee boxes next to greens next to other greens. I’ve never seen more safety nets in my life. The course itself isn’t straight forward either. It seemed like every hole was a mystery of where to land your tee shot before hitting into yet another blind approach shot. Definitely need to have course knowledge. And although the greens are in good condition, they are mostly postage stamps. Staff was great and their practice green was huge, but I don’t like playing in cramped courses around a wash (or what they call a river). Overall - $50 gets a nicer playing experience elsewhere.

Narrow course will test your mettle

BLUF - this course is carved out of a hillside with narrow fairways. Although the greens are decent, the fairways left a lot to be desired. I imagine that’s due to hillside irrigation and what kind of grass you can use. It’s simply disappointing to hit a fairway and have patchy grass with weird depressions. Overall okay course. If I was in the area and got a good deal, I’d consider hitting there again, but I wouldn’t drive just to play there again.

Challenging and fun track, still recovering

Overall very nice track. Range Balls were included in the price which was a nice bonus. The layout is decent with some narrow fairways/landing areas. A few tee boxes had some fertilizer and, as advertised, the greens are still recovering from being aerated. Greens should be nice in 2-4 weeks. Track is slightly shorter, but that doesn’t mean you don’t have to be wise with your shot selection. Only negative part was the pace of play due to a couple of slow foursomes. Talking with other golfers who had golfed here before, this was an anomaly so I didn’t put too much into it.

Tale of Two Nines, but no driving range?

This course is split into two very different nines. The first nine features narrow fairways with some fairly difficult shots. Not necessarily long, but definitely challenging. The second nine is longer, but much more forgiving. Regardless of what hole you're on, the greens are well protected by bunkers, water, or cliffs. I don't recommend going near those. Lots of sloping fairways with some significant elevation changes especially on the back nine.

Course Condition
Tee boxes - Seemed to be a bit non-standard like they were limiting some in order to let them recover. Unfortunately, this meant pretty beat up conditions on the tee boxes in play.

Fairways - Overall fairly average except some grass was dormant so it felt like they were extremely firm. Great for distance off the tee, bad for feel and touch shots.

Greens - Recently punched with a small effect on putting. I think they are still letting them grow before trimming/rolling them. At least that's my hope. Either way, they were fairly fast with some significant break.

Hazards - Although there was sand in all of them, they weren't raked and some were a bit moist. No standing water or muddy, just a bit dense as wet sand can get.

Staff - Absolutely terrific. Don't remember their names, but from the lovely lady at the desk to the starter, all were awesome.

Biggest Drawback - NO driving range. They do offer a net to warm up with irons only, but I was a bit disappointed. Hard to start off on the right foot when you can't dial in your swing before the round.

Overall - Decent course at a good price. I'd play again, but I know I'd have to warm up at the driving range two miles down the road.

Great value for a nice course!!

This is the 5-6 time I’ve played this track and it’s always a good experience. Tee boxes are flat and nice. Greens were a touch slow, but in great condition. There are always people who don’t fix their divot marks, but that’s not the course’s fault. 95% of the fairways are in great condition. Of course, I’ll manage to find that 5%. Refreshment cart came around fairly often, “which is nice”. Pace of play was about 4.5 hours, which is not terribly bad for a Saturday morning round. Overall I’d play this track again and again.

Scenic Course, not a flat green to be found

First time playing the course and it’s a decent track. The greens were in great shape and definitely challenge you. I don’t think a single one was flat. Fairways are okay. They weren’t necessarily patchy, but not consistent in coverage. Considering the course is at the foothills of a mountain, this is what I’d expect. The rough on the other hand was crazy. Some parts were trimmed, others parts were super long. Regardless, it’s the kind of grass where if you hit into it, you have to be directly over your ball to see it. Just don’t hit into it and it’ll be ok. Pace of play was nice minus the single lady who hit into us. No biggie though. The course has some blind landing shots, which make club selection and shot shaping a premium. This is definitely a track you need to play a couple times to figure out your shot selection. Very scenic overall and wildlife abounds. Must have seen 30+ deer.
