It's in Good Shape, That's where it ends

The course is probably the best you’ll see it, and it’s lined with construction and soon backyards. But the problem is with the staff and amenities. The ice machines are undersized and yesterday, on a 95° day with the heat index stopping just short of 110° they were out of ice. So I went to bring my small cooler on the course with me so I could have cold water and they refused to allow it on the course. Said my only option was to buy water from the cart girl. Sorry, no. Water isn’t something you should be forced into buying. even Disney lets you take a cooler in as long as there’s no alcohol. I only had water with me and they threw a fit. The little old man at the cart area got very terse and aggressive. Then decided he wanted to pick on my buddy and point out that his shirt tail had come untucked in the back at the range during warm up and he was in violation of the dress code. Come on....

The range were mats only and no availability to even tee the ball up to loosen up your driver before the first tee. The course was not off to a good start.

The carts are another problem. The GPS geofencing gave you zero warning and would shut you down and make you reverse out at 1mph. We had this trigger many times while on cart paths. The front nine was a very frustrating experience and none of us settled in and played well until the back 9.

Fairways are nice, rough is playable. No shade anywhere on the course and doesn’t look like much in the future. Pods of sawgrass and palm trees have been planted. The greens are pretty stupid in a lot of ways but this is the course’s only defense. There are crazy undulations, ridges and knobs all over these greens and they decided to plant the cup right on all of them. Most greens really only have 2-4 decent pin placements, most weren’t used. Several places they contoured these features so steeply that the mower scalped the tops.

Based on our experience with the staff, we won’t go back. Their policies on water in Florida Summers are flat wrong and quite frankly illegal. I finished the day with a solid headache since we only saw the cart girl 3 times.

Home Course

Legacy has had a yoyo history to its conditions and playability. Luckily right now they are on a high side! The course is in the best shape I've seen it in for the last 12 years I've been playing there. The greens are rolling pretty nice, not screaming but not slow either. Fairways are in great shape and tee boxes are just fine.

It's one fo the few courses left that doesn't have GPS in the carts and thank god. I hate the GPS systems and geofencing on so many courses. So definitely a positive. Cart paths need replaced on many holes, be ready for a bumpy ride there. If they could speed the greens up a bit more they'd have a top notch facility.

Practice Area: Grass driving range and not hitting into a stupid lake. So all grass. You can really work a proper practice here that includes how the ball rolls out or stops. Decent wedge green with a couple of traps and a nice size practice green that typically rolls about the same as the course. There's a 2nd warm up green by the first tee that is hit or miss for speed.

Clubhouse is nice, food is decent, nothing to go nuts over.

Jeckyll & Hyde Course

First of all, it lives up to its name, there's water well in play on 17 holes. The front 9 is very different from the back. The back is gorgeous, but if you play early or later in the day bring your bug spray!

Back 9 has a stunning stretch carved against the river. The cons of this course though are the ways many of the holes are cut and sloped to snag your ball if you don't have perfect placement. On the plus side the course isn't long, so you can get away with a long iron or 3wd off many of the tees. It is a fun course and has a stretch of holes that are stunning. Unfortunately it also has some real loser holes peppered in, thus the Jekyll and Hyde title. #9 is just flat out ugly. If you play the tips is a 230yd par 3 and about 215 of that is carry over some wetland wasteland. It's just ugly.

The place is worth a play, especially in the winter. They like to aerate the greens about 3 times a week in the summer it feels. So if you're hitting this place in the summertime call ahead and get their punch schedule.

They do have Geofenced golf carts and they are an-al about getting anywhere near water. Which there's a ton of so be prepared for that annoyance a couple times each round. That are just hit every fairway and you'll be fine.

What a Gem!

We made a 4 hour round trip to play and we're already working on our return trip. The course is incredible and truly doesn't feel like a Florida course at all. It's so nice playing and not seeing 500 houses lining fairways down both sides.

The course is visually stunning. The par 3s are challenging to say the least. Nothing too tricky as far as layouts, so you can score well first time out.

The course doesn't match the rest of the place, the clubhouse is old and run down. Reminded me of Caddyshack and hasn't been updated since then. Still doesn't matter, the course more than makes up for all of that. Friendly staff and awesome course! It was an absolute steal at $40

Dog Track

The course has a nice layout. But that’s where it ends. I’ve never had a pleasant experience at this course from any of the staff. That sets the tone properly for the worst maintained course on the gulf coast. I’d be shocked if the greens rolled over a 6, the bunkers are full of rock, shell and very little actual sand. I’m not sure how a course in Florida is lacking sand, but this one has accomplished it. The turf is riddled with weeds everywhere and everything is just run down. The Bradshaws purchased the place and hopefully will make the right changes because until that happens no one should play this course. It’s horrible!

The holes themselves have a decent layout. A lot of tucked greens and many of those tucked greens are small. The distances between holes could have fit another 18 holes. Some of the drives are crazy. Also, the only course I know that wants you to be back to the clubhouse before sunset. Last note, they make you keep the golf carts a country mile from the greens, which wouldn’t be bad if the course was nice, but they are GPS fenced and many of the walks take you over a berm to get to the green.

Just avoid this place at all costs. There are several other courses in the immediate area that you should play instead.

Worst Shape in Years

The course is in the worst shape I've seen it in years. Tee Boxes are overgrown with weeds on several holes. Fairways are in decent shape, Greens are ungodly slow and very patchy. Lots of weeds growing up through the hardpan, sand traps are hard as rocks after the 1/2 inch of sand. You can tell that after the course sold the new owners are cutting costs in several ways.
