Arizona Grand Resort
Played On 04/03/2023Brutally slow
I am hoping that today was an anomaly, but the pace of play was the slowest I have ever endured, with waiting on every hole. On top of a delay in being able to tee off. The course is harder than the rating due to numerous blind shots, lots of altitude changes, many elevated greens with severe slopes, and very thick rough. Tee times were on a five minute schedule and that is totally inappropriate and definitely a factor in groups being on top of each other. Also a factor was a lack of attention from a ranger, as we didn't even see one until the back nine and apparently a group ahead of us had gotten behind pace by 2-3 holes and nothing had been done to remedy the situation. The course does not have a driving range - just a hitting net - and the tiny practice green is adjacent to the first tee, is in terrible shape, and is not allowed to be used until you are "on deck" for the tee, allowing for a maximum of 10 minutes of practice time. There is also a lack of restroom facilities on the course, which does not return to the clubhouse between the front and back nine. Given the frustrating experience today, I definitely will never play the course again.
The Views Golf Club at Oro Valley
Played On 09/30/2021Forgiving desert course
My husband and I had never played here before and we're pleasantly surprised to find a very playable desert layout after a week of frustrating rounds at other courses. The fairways were fairly forgiving off the tee, with strategically placed slopes often helping a less than perfect shot stay in play. The greens, while often elevated and requiring an extra club (or two), were medium fast and putted true - by far the best we played this week. Recent rain had made the fairways soggy in spots, and some of the bunkers still had significant puddles, but other than some decreased roll there was no impact to our enjoyment of this course.
Thank you very very much for the five stars and sharing your detailed review with the community. And we are thrilled to read it was the best you played during your stay here in Tucson. Please come back and see us again!
So happy to read you had an amazing time. And thank you for the five stars! We hope to see you back again soon!
Thank you for the recommendation and five star rating. We really appreciate it!
SaddleBrooke Ranch Golf Club
Played On 11/03/2020Super relaxing round
Played as a twosome behind another twosome and finished in 3 hours 45 minutes with no waiting at all after about five holes. Course just coming out of overseeing so the greens were difficult to putt and a bit bumpy, but overall course was in good shape. Really enjoyed our round.
Camelback Golf Club - Ambiente Course
Played On 05/02/2019Challenging greens
Played this course for the first time and really enjoyed it. Fairways and greens are in nice shape and the greens were consistent speeds for the whole round, which is something that has not been the case for other tracks we have played this week. There are enough bunkers to provide a challenge and catch miss-hit shots, but the biggest challenge on this course is the elevated, firm, and undulating greens. It was hard to hold the greens on a long approach shot, and you really need to have your putter dialed in.
Celebration Golf Club
Played On 05/11/2018Great course that puts the resorts to shame
With all of the big name resort courses around Kissimmee, it's easy to overlook Celebration Golf Club. If you do, you are missing something special. The course was in the best shape of any we played during our week in the area, with lush fairways and only a few thin patches like were so prominent and on other courses thanks to the unusually dry spring. The course has plenty of bunkering and water to punish errant shots, but only a few forced carries. Some local knowledge would be helpful, as it is sometimes difficult to know the right way to play a hole and our cart did not have GPS (ours was a rental, as they had brought in extras for a big outing the next day, so not sure if their regular carts have it). We will definitely play Celebration again!
Ironhorse Golf Course
Played On 07/31/2016Tougher than expected
Played this course for the first time and found it surprisingly tough for the slope rating. Lots of water that created visual intimidation, plenty of sand, and big greens that made for some long putts. Course was generally in good shape, but there were some bare spots on and around some greens. Pro shop and snack bar staff were friendly. No beverage cart (none needed) and restrooms on course weren't in great shape. Played as a twosome and had to let a couple singles play through but still finished in about 4 hours despite struggling on a few holes. Good value for price and we will try it again someday.
Preserve Golf Course
Played On 11/22/2014Fair challenge for all levels of golfers
For a desert track, this course doesn't have excessive carries over washes and waste areas like some others in the Tucson area. A few holes require careful placement of your shot, which is difficult to do since the scorecard doesn't show the layout of the hole and the carts don't have GPS. I strongly recommend having a personal GPS if you want to enjoy your round. Several holes have elevation changes, and the wind also comes into play. The fairways were in good condition, but the speed of the greens was inconsistent. The rough was dormant. The practice area was nice and included a chipping area and bunker. I am a female who rarely breaks 100, but even though this course was challenging, it didn't beat me up, and it also proved a challenge for my husband who is a single-digit handicapper.
