Omni La Costa Resort & Spa - Legends Course
Played On 01/14/2018Always fun to play but...
La costa offers some of the finest golf course in North San diego and we love coming out here to play. Conditions are for the most part in good to excellent, although there are a few holes where there are lots of bird poop all over the tee and green (which we hope the management can address at some point).
One factor that makes coming here less fun is the fact that they reserve one course for members only so there is only 1 course available for play for public and resort guest. This is such a downer given that if you are staying here, you do not want to play the same course twice when there is another course available. Why don't they just reserve some slots for the members and let resort guest have some slots for both courses? I know they want to keep the members happy but what about resort guest?
Golf staff was friendly and efficient. Proshop was well stocked. Driving range - mats were kinda worn off and old which was not up to par for a course that charges premium for golf.
Greens are pretty nice. They rolled true. Well maintained.
Bunkers well stocked and consistent.
Layout was ok. Some interesting holes although i feel a bit more claustrophobic at Legends with some homes very close to the holes.
i still prefer Champions over Legends but didnt get a chance to play that since it was blocked off for members that day.
Westridge Golf Club
Played On 11/11/2017Overall good conditions except..
It has been awhile since we have played this course. Conditions overall is much better that the last time we played here. Greens are great and fast. There were a few with unrepaired ball marks. Fairways have good coverage for most part.
The only thing that is amiss is the bunkers. Somehow, there were lots of small stones and rocks in most of the bunkers that tend to make it dangerous at times.
Staff was great and friendly in checking us in and also the starter was super cool.
Pace of play could be improved but given how tough some of the holes played, i was not too surprised on the the almost 3 hours to play the front 9.
Overall decent conditions and with deals on green fees, certainly will try to work it back in our rotation.
The Ocean North at Pelican Hill Golf Club
Played On 10/14/2017Great course
This is one of the nicest courses in Southern California. A bit of a drive from Los Angeles but certainly worth it for the view and course conditions. Staff for the most part - courteous and friendly.
Practice facility very nice with different target greens to aim at. Today we hit off grass although at times, they move the hitting areas to the artificial turf.
Fun course with lots of different looks and elevation changes, ocean views and excellent conditions. Greens are rolling true and takes awhile to figure out.
Definitely a must play course.
Alhambra Municipal Golf Course
Played On 10/13/2017Nice muni course
This is one of the nicest public courses in the area. Course is short but definitely fun to play. Greens are usually well maintained and the best feature of this course.
Front 9 is flat and easier compared to the back 9 where some holes are hilly and provides more areas to get in trouble with.
Staff is usually pretty nice and helpful.
3 level driving range, lighted at night also for the late night practices.
Ko Olina Golf Club
Played On 08/22/2017Could be better.
We were on our Hawaiian vacation and was thrilled to be able to book a tee time at Ko Olina, site of LPGA event so we were super excited to check in. The atmosphere was more relaxing, not as hectic as Waikiki area and certainly less traffic travelling the area. The course also provides shuttle service to and from Waikiki area.
Check in was smooth and easy. Proshop was well stocked. Staff was efficient and friendly. We arrived a bit early for our tee time and was escorted to the driving range with a small bucket for warm up. Driving range was adequate and we were hitting off mats instead of grass. They also have a large practice green. Given that the tee sheet was full, we waited for our slot. Tee off was on time and we were handed our cart keys 5 minutes before. Carts equipped with a nice GPS and comfortable ride. There was also a snack bar for food and beverage purchase and I suggest doing so before the round as we did not see any beverage cart on the course during our round.
Afternoon winds were a factor in playing. Was told early morning is more calm. Teeing ground was lush and so was the fairways. Bunkers had no sand at all which was a bummer considering this is a top course to play and ranked one of the best in Oahu.
Greens seems to have had some minor maintenance done but did not affect the roll although a bit slower than what I would expect.
Pace was moving but had to wait on every shot. We did not mind as the course was really beautiful to look at. There were some holes that ran parallel to roads and can be a distraction at times.
Conditions overall was below what we expected from a highly regarded championship course but we had fun playing and will return when we get a chance.
Desert Falls Country Club
Played On 05/17/2015Very nice course.
Really enjoyed the course. Design was fun and layout was quite forgiving for average golfers. The course has a lot of different looks starting off with a slight dogleg with water par 4. A must play in my opinion if you are in the area. Nice practice area. Staff was laidback and easy to work with.
Glen Ivy Golf Club
Played On 1/20/2013great course
This is one of the better courses in the area. Lots of elevation changes, great design and fun fun course to play. Conditions are great and friendly staff makes this a must play.
hammer74 thanks so much for playing with us and for your feedback! Certainly understand your desire to play both - we do alternate member only course daily. It's a delicate balance keeping everyone happy but we do our best. :) Hope to see you again soon. Dustin
