Played On 06/06/2022Always a great layout; current condition is substandard
I've been playing this track a couple times a year since it opened almost 30 years ago. I recently described it to someone as being a great layout, very challenging and always in good shape. I was obviously disappointed then to find the course in substandard condition this week. I would say it was the worst condition I've ever seen it, but I'd condition that by saying that it wasn't THAT bad.
I can't recall if it has always been wall-to-wall bermuda, but it certainly is now. With that comes a completely different set of requirements for mowing. The fairways should me mown very tight and the roughs really have to be given thought. If bermuda roughs get even a little bit too long they can become almost unplayable for the average golfer. On this day the roughs weren't too long, but the tee boxes and the fairways were. Tee boxes were lumpy and uneven, which IMO is inexcusable. Every tee box should be billiard table level and smooth. Fairway grass was too long as were some approach areas which made all approach shots more difficult than they should have been.
The lakes were grown over with lillipads and gunk. The pro shop had next to nothing in it and gross stains all over the carpet. There was nobody helping with carts or acting as a starter. There is construction going on next to and across the street from the driving range.
In all, I just got the sense that maybe there is a shortage of money or effort being put into the place right now. I hope that isn't the case because it has always been a place I've looked forward to playing.

Improvements appear to be in process. Some cart paths have been repaved, looks like some trees removed, greens are true and quick in places, fairways are mostly good but still spotty. Signage on the course is lacking and the scorecard says there are restrooms where there aren't. When you sit on the course and just look around, everything looks kind of low budget and I guess that's why I only paid $30. It's not a bad track by any means, but IMO, it could use a substantial shot in the arm with money, some redesigning and the performance of a LOT of deferred maintenance. At this price however, it's hard to complain. If you're looking for an inexpensive round, this is a good option. If you're looking for an amazing design or first class condition, this isn't your spot.

Played On 11/16/2021Fun but difficult!
The course was in good shape except for the tee boxes and some areas of rough that were long bermuda that made finding a ball nearly impossible.
This course is fun and is always in my rotation when I am in the area. I must say though, as I've gotten older this coarse has become really difficult. Certainly not for the faint of heart!
The grill has the best golf-burgers you'll ever find! Give it a whirl!
Talamore Golf Resort
Played On 11/15/2021Course conditions are very good and the greens and tee boxes are excellent. It's amazing how incredibly rare it is to find tee boxes that are flat and level! Thank you Talamore for that!!
I played as a single so I can't complain about pace, but I played the front in 1:20 and the back nine in 3:10. It's a hard course and everyone seemed to be keeping pace.
Because of the time of the year I was able to play for about half of the regular rack rate. At this price it is a great value. At their regular rack rate, it's too expensive for me. While the fall weather is excellent it's a good chance to play Talamore!

Played On 07/01/2021Worst I've ever seen it. Maybe worst I've ever seen.
I'm sure these owners are doing nearly the best they can and because of that, I hate to say anything negative. On the other hand, reviews are for the consumer and consumers should know that right now, the place is a small step above pasture. The greens have some sort of damage in most locations. The fairways and tee boxes are hit and miss. The rough ranges from hard pan to too tall. Some of the pin placements are ridiculous given the green conditions and the driving range is easily the worst I've ever seen. I wish the best for the owners to get it back to what it can be but right now they ought to be paying ppl to play it, rather than charging ppl to play it.

Played On 04/21/2021Always a good time!
This is a challenging layout on a good day, but in 15 mph winds, much more so. The greens hold and are super fast. Tee boxes aren't great and the fairways could use some more grass but it seems we are in between winter overseen grass and summer bermuda coming in.
Deercroft Golf Club
Played On 04/10/2021Good and getting better!
Will definitely be back to play this one. The staff went above and beyond like none before. They are to be commended. If they keep improving the conditions it could be a real treat.
It is tough. Long, uphill holes are quite a challenge, especially if the wind is against you.

Played On 04/08/2021Great course in good condition
Great course in good condition but still a bit overpriced. Used to play it with a Capital Card for $60. Now the daily rate is double that and even with a GolfNow Hot Deal it was $100.
Hello, zanardi. Thank you for visiting us at Talamore Golf Resort. We appreciate your 4-star rating and review. We hope you join us for another round soon.
Longleaf Golf & Family Club
Played On 04/06/2021Surprisingly poor condition
I've been playing Longleaf since it opened in the 90s. Longleaf is a good course and an excellent facility, especially since being purchased by US Kids Golf several years ago. In fact, I've apparently gotten spoiled the last few years because no matter what, I could always count on the course conditions being great. That is why I was so surprised to see the condition yesterday.
The greens were pretty good. Most have recovered from the recent aeration, rolled true and seemed to be starting to speed up. They were the best part of the course from a condition standpoint. Areas surrounding the greens were inconsistent. Some were OK. Some were just dirt or hardpan. The fairways were pretty good although there were some tight/hard spots in places. The roughs were not in good shape. It appeared they are mostly dormant Bermuda without any discernible over-seeded grass in many locations. But the tee boxes.... Oh my.... The tee boxes were absolutely atrocious! Not level, no grass, clumpy, sandy, etc. Just an absolute disaster. The tee boxes alone were enough to make me feel like I had been ripped off, even after paying a somewhat discounted rate.
I just got to the area and I don't know what kind of weather has been happening here. Ordinarily, I would highly recommend Longleaf, but in the current condition it isn't worth much at all. I was hugely disappointed and will hope to see a big improvement in the future.

Played On 06/19/2020Very disappointing...
Course conditions were very disappointing. The tee boxes had almost no grass on them and were so hard that we could barely get a tee in the ground. Apparently they aren’t cutting the greens very often in hopes of not losing them to the heat. In some places it was like putting on shag carpet. You almost couldn’t hit the ball hard enough to get it to the hole. The bunkers had no sand and were full of weeds; absolutely the worst I’ve ever seen. The fairways were good other than occasionally patches of clover.
We were stuck behind a foursome that was playing way too slow. We never saw a group ahead of them all day although they claimed one was there. Regardless our round took nearly five hours and of course, there wasn’t a marshall on course to keep ppl moving.
In spite of it being in the 90’s, and COVID preventing water coolers, there wasn’t anyone selling beverages on the course. This is irresponsible and dangerous.
The people are always nice but if the course doesn’t improve a lot, soon , it’ll be a long time before I go back. I would also suspect they’ll have a hard time surviving.

Played On 08/10/2019Improving...
Played it for the first time in five years. Course conditions are improving under the new ownership although, perhaps not as quickly as I would expect. The fairways are in good shape. Most of the greens are in good shape but they’re a little bumpy/grainy and too slow for my taste. Several bunkers need to be completely redone and most of the tee boxes need to be leveled and cut. The new carts are very nice with GPS and Bluetooth speakers. The clubhouse is still small and a little gritty, but it doesn’t affect the experience IMO. Playing from the golds, the course plays a lot shorter than I remember. That seems to help with pace of play, but they may need to add some yardage in the future. I will try it again and will be anxious to see the continued progress but it’s not going to be my “go-to” track anytime soon.

Henry Horton State Park Golf Course
Played On 08/31/2018A golf paradox
Club house is fine. Golf carts are new and perfect. Tees and fairways are in very good condition, even though every thing is bermuda grass. The sand traps are lousy, with wet, compacted sand that hasn't been properly raked for a while. Importantly, the greens are enormous and in better shape than any course I've played in central TN. Better than Legends, Gov. Club, or any other CC or public course. Kudo's to the greenskeeper. He is truly underrated!
Sadly, the layout is boring. Pretty reminiscent of Harpeth Hills or Shelby Park. Back and forth layout with holes of minimum interest. I'd play it again because of the condition and the greens, but I wish the layout was more unique.

I always enjoy playing here. Some sublime holes and an excellent layout. It always plays better than it looks.

Played On 04/11/2018I Love Talamore!
I played Talamore the very first time the year it opened back in the early 90's. The llama's as caddies were a novelty but the course was ry and hard; the trees hadn't come in and I did not enjoy it. Fast forward 25 years and it is absolutely one of my favorite courses in the area. It's always in good condition; often in great condition. The layout of TOUGH but fair. The surroundings are beautiful. The greens yesterday were some of the truest and fastest I've ever played. I love Talamore!!1
Country Club of Whispering Pines - River Course
Played On 04/09/2018A funny thing happened on the way to....
I've played this course dozens of times over the last 25 years. It's always been a nice course, not special. The fairways and greens are always in good shape but this course tends to stay wet for a few days after heavy rain. Of all the courses in the area I rate it a "C+." Monday I took some friends there for the first time and they were blown away by the beauty of the course, the layout and the conditions. Sometimes its nice to see something through new eyes. We had a great day and definitely recommend you give it a try!
Anderson Creek Golf Club
Played On 04/05/2018Great course but current conditions are
I love this course. The layout and the staff are great but today the conditions were a but iffy. Admittedly, it is still early April, but the tee boxes are bad and the fairways are "fair" at best. My guess is that it will be terrific again by the end of this month.
Lake at Carolina Trace Country Club
Played On 04/06/2017Very nice, even after heavy rains
I enjoy this course all though I don't play it all that often. The layouts are good and the conditions have always been good. It had rained very hard the day before we played so we had to keep the carts on the cart path but other than that, things were very nice. This isn't a 5-star track like a handful of the others in the area, but it's always enjoyable.
Hi, zanardi. We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. Thank you for the 4 stars! We aim for a 5-star experience, so we always welcome feedback for improvement. Thank you for playing Talamore Golf Resort.
