The Refuge Golf Club
Played On 09/16/2017All track and.no infield.
Played this course many, many times. Story is the same since the days of the double-wide trailer clubhouse: play some golf and go somewhere else for post-round enjoyment.
The clubhouse with its faux bar/restaurant simply cannot keep up with the awesome golf course around it.
Blackberry Ridge
Played On 06/16/2015Great Experience and a Fantastic Track
We were a little late for our teetime but the staff quickly accommodated us and got us out. Pace of play was brisk which was great as we were a twosome. Track is in fabulous shape, greens are perfect and swift - stay below the hole! Big hitters will benefit here. Plenty of room to drive it deep, but second shots need to be accurate as the greens are a bit smallish with plenty of movement. Overall a perfect day on a wonderful golf course with an excellent clubhouse and on-course staff.
Verde River Golf & Social Club
Played On 02/18/2015Excellent Challenge
An excellent and challenging golf course easily in PHX top 10 publics. Plays VERY fair despite it's difficulty. No gimmicks or illusions, just great golf right in front of you. Holes are varied and arranged nicely for scoring. Some great birdie holes and some extremely difficult and lengthy Par 5's. Overall this is a golfer's golf course to which I will gladly award a full five stars when the 25,000 square foot clubhouse (not yet in existence) is open and operational.
Lookout Mountain Golf Club
Played On 04/24/2014Interesting Golf Course
Lookout is an interesting track with unique elevation changes and deceptive and speedy putting surfaces. Use your feet to tell you what your eyes misread. While the course itself has fine features, the beauty of the area is significantly reduced by the imposing housing placed far too close to the course. Fun for a day at anything below $60.
New Richmond Golf Club - Old Course
Played On 10/2/2013Solid Golf Course
New Richmond is a medium length old style golf course where everything is right in front of you. No gimmicks. The greens are firm with some undulations, but they play fair. Nice flowerbeds and shrubbery add finishing touches to this wonderful course. And hey, Wisconsin proves again why it's fun to be in their clubhouses. Enjoy a beverage.
Giants Ridge Golf & Ski Resort - Legend Course
Played On 09/30/2013Minnesota's top public course
I've played all of Minnesota's top 100 public golf courses and there's only one number one and it's by a significant margin: The Quarry. This is a player's paradise for golfers who want to play in a spectacular natural environment. Pure, fair, consistent and fast greens make putting challenging but enjoyable. The ball goes where you aim it. The fairways are pristine, fairly generous and roll as though cut for a professional event. Teeboxes are immaculate and elevation changes make club selection important. This golf course could be played 1000 times and the player would enjoy every one and boredom would never set in. It's golf in the purest form.
The Meadows at Mystic Lake
Played On 8/27/2013Plays as advertised
The Meadows is an excellent course capable of providing a challenging experience for all levels. The fairways are superb and soft, bunkers have the proper amount of sand and density and the greens are true and very large. Very definitely one of Minnesota's top 5 public tracks and one of the few - and perhaps only - that have not only properly located the outdoor grill/snack shop, but understand how to properly utilize it. Very well done. Upgrades could be done to the driving range, but then this is not a teaching facility it's a spectacular entertainment venue. No harm, no foul.
Elk River Country Club
Played On 8/5/2013Course is ideally suited to casual golfers.
ERCC is a nice blend of small greens, generous fairways and enjoyable scenery which is a good fit for the casual golfer. Play was swift even by those walking. Overall it's a great place for a family golf outing or prepping young aspiring players.
Loggers Trail Golf Club
Played On 7/15/2013Wonderful Golf Course
This is a wonderful track that is really the story of two nines. The front features woodlands, tight driving lanes and undulating greens. The back is a bit more links style exposing the player to wind while providing forgiving driving space. All together it's a great place to play golf.
The glaring weakness is an underperforming clubhouse that is in desperate need of upgrade to match the quality of the course.
The Refuge Golf Club
Played On 6/4/2013Excellent Golf Course
This is an excellent golf course that will challenge golfers of all skill levels. Generous fairways offer the player an opportunity to get started and from there bunkers, trees, water and large greens with multiple pin placements take over. Bring your "A" irons and putter. You'll need them.
The only weakness in the entire facility is the clubhouse which is in desperate need of improvement in the bar designated for the golfers. Though apparently not an original part of the clubhouse layout, it lacks the same character and quality found throughout the rest of the facility including nicely appointed restrooms.
White Eagle Golf Club
Played On 10/29/2012Fantastic Golf Course
Played here many times and the story is always the same: Fantastic golf course in exceptional condition. The staff in scond to none. They're friendly, accomodating, helpful, pleasant. I've played thousands of rounds of golf all over the country. The staff @ White Eagle could easily become the go-to example for how it's done.
A parting thought (just for 2012. I'll be back in 2013.): Can we do something about #16, please? While it's certainly a tournament-changer, IMHO it's also unfair. T-shot landing area needs to be corrected and since it's definately doable and would put the finishing touch on an otherwise exceptional golf course, it needs to be done.
Willinger's Golf Club
Played On 10/1/2012All around fantastic facility
This club has a wonderful golf course, clubhouse and staff. The course is always in great shape and plays fair. And so does the staff. They are friendly, courteous, helpful and accomodating. What goes on here should be emulated by other metro area clubs.
Stonebrooke Golf Club
Played On 1/01/2012Wonderful Course and Clubhouse
Stonebrooke is a wonderful golf course with nteresting holes and feature. The eighth hole plays over a lake and gives the player options to take a boatride to the other side or drive around on the cartpath. That's fun and adds interest. The clubhouse and restaurant are equally impressive with a well-appointed outdoor patio complete with firepit. Restaurant offers wonderful views of the course.
This wonderful club is tainted by poor staffing selections. Club and restaurant management are dissmissive, unfriendly and unhelpful.
