Good links style golf but too crowded

The course is 9 holes with excellent views of ocean and Highland lighthouse. Greens were slow but ran true. Wispy rough was a nice challenge as were the fine sand bunkers.
The problem was that there was no regulation of groups starting their second nine and no starter or ranger, so our group waited for every shot and the nine holes each had two to three foursomes on them. I gave up after nine, which is extraordinary.
In conclusion, the course is worth the fees, but I recommend paying for 9 holes at a time

Major Improvements Underway

I was able to play on New Year's day, and was impressed by the improvements that are being worked on at Rolling Meadows. Nearly every sand trap is being re-worked and several new tees are in place. The greens were so good that I had 84 feet of putts, which is way better than normal. So .... give Rolling Meadows a chance to impress you in 2020.

Improving Course

This course is steadily improving and is a lot of fun to play. Some of the greens have been damaged by wildlife, but most are interesting and receptive to good shots. The bunkers have been renovated and are well positioned. Friendly staff.
The only suggestion I have is to improve the rough, although I realize that this would slow down rounds.

Had to play it twice

Glenross is a well designed course with plenty of speed on the greens. The traps and water hazards are in good condition and placed nicely. The first time I played, I made the mistake of underestimating the speed of the greens and paid the price. The second time was much better as I played shallow approaches and halved my normal putting speed. Plenty of chances to enjoy the game.

Great Course, Slow Going

Delaware Golf Club reminds me of a short version of OSU scarlet. At 6400 yds it has plenty of interesting features. The bunkers, rough and fairways were excellent and the greens were fast and true, but pockmarked by inconsiderate golfers. The Sunday pace was excruciating but it's hard to complain when you get to play such a nice design. #11 is a dogleg left 440 yard par 4 that crosses a lake veers uphill to a diagonal fairway then requires a nice 2nd into a stream guarded sloped green,

Kidwell's Toughest Test

Jack Kidwell built courses all over central Ohio with the guiding idea of making them accessible challenging and fun for the average golfer.
Oakhurst exceeds those specs and is a difficult but fair test for amateurs. Unless you hit shots a lot straighter than I do, you will hear a constant tattoo of balls hitting oak. The greens are well manicured and most of them include a disguised slope to deflect the unwary approach.
I like a challenge and I like Oakhurst.

Hills' Best?

I have played many Arthur Hills courses and this may be my favorite. Very interesting use of hazards, trees and of course those elephants buried under the greens. I liked #2 best. Severely sloped fairway put balls into the left water hazard even when the grass was not trimmed short and had plenty of moisture. Bombers can reach in two but will still have to deal with the green.
The good score is there, but you are advised to play smarter rather than longer.

WOW

High wow factor. The use of vertical topography is what raises this course from high quality to excellent.
Well placed hazards, demanding greens, testy blind drives, multiple length tees. Stay out of the woods to avoid copious poison ivy Used every club in the bag.
Highly recommended for the low handicap amateur.

Worth the Drive to Bangs

Chapel Hill literally has something for every sort of amateur golfer with plenty of tee choices, nice clubhouse, and a great use of its rolling topography.
We played in a mini-monsoon that did not overwhelm the course, but allowed us a break from slow Sunday golfers.
My favorite holes are #7 and #11 which demand accuracy on every shot. There are also a few breather holes and some inviting but treacherous short par 4s.
Thanks to the greenskeepers for their attention to detail.

This Course Likes Golfers

The best thing about Rolling Meadows is the golfer friendly staff. They really put effort into helping you enjoy the day.
The course is set up for fast play, with trees that are nice to look at but do not impinge on the average shot. Birdie opportunities abound. I have always enjoyed the reachable par 4 16th and the unreachable par 4 8th.

Typical Hills

I have played five Hills courses and they are quite similar. Difficult greens, large well-placed traps, and luxurious clubhouses. I played during a light rain which caused most shots to plug and made the traps useless (they were the consistency of oatmeal). The trees were not a design factor. Interestingly, the practice green has little break, while the course greens have a lot of slope. I would suggest putting some money into drainage and hiring a ranger to keep things moving.

Perfect place for a practice round

Homestead is one of the few Columbus courses that comes into playable condition early in the year. Aside from some dead grass on a few greens, the grounds crew had all the sand raked, all the leaves and ground clutter removed, and most of the mud under control (directly after some heavy rains).
The par 5 eleventh is always a challenge, and the reachable 280 yard third is no gimme. Many holes can be birdied if your game is up to it.
If you are in it for the facilities, they are minimal. If you just like golf, you will enjoy the course and the staff.

Picturesque and Nasty

The key feature of Maderas is its beauty. The architects used all their weapons to make every hole a gem and still technically difficult. Every mis-hit shot raised the score. I would hate to see what it could do to you on a dry windy day!

Pristine is the word

The greenskeepers here are outstanding, I give it 5 stars not for design or difficulty, but for getting every detail as perfect as possible.
The semi-private status coupled with a golf-now super price allows a frugal golfer the experience of playing a topographically flat version of Scioto Country Club,
The greens are the key feature. They were true and nuanced on a cold October day. I imagine that they could be as difficult as next-door Muirfield's if the keepers wanted them to be.
This course is a Columbus treasure, I can't wait to play it again.

Front/Back Night/Day

We played Moss Creek on a rainy day which slowed the speed of the greens while speeding up the pace of play. Maybe it was just our grip on the clubs that did it, but the back nine turned into a train wreck of doubles.
The course is nice from the esthetic angle with lots of trees and wildflowers well off the fairways. Kudos to the greenskeepers who obviously know their craft. If you are a fan of well filled strategic bunkers and smooth but sloping greens, this may be your kind of place.
This course could become excellent with a few design tweaks and a modest clubhouse. The staff and greens crew are already there.

Four Stars For Fun, Only One For Elegance

This course has it all. Lots of mature trees, interesting holes, ponds, hills, sculpted greens. Our Golfnow fee was so low that the value was off the charts.
On the other hand, over half the traps were dirt/weeds, the ponds were covered with green algae, and there was a general lack of maintenance that would discourage any trendy golfers.
Since we are not trendy we had a blast and look forward to playing it again.

It's all about approaching and putting.

This is a dead flat course that meanders around a posh Bowling Green subdivision. Trees are well out of the way and the fairways are, well, fair. Maybe even generous and well maintained.
So how do we arrive at the gaudy slope of 139?
Every green was twitchy, deceptive and fast. Therefore, you have to approach them correctly and putt them like you pet a cobra. We had a lot more three putts than birdies. I don't even want to talk about the traps - stay out of them.
Kudos to the greenskeepers and to the marshall who kept things from bogging down on a well-attended Saturday.

Treeophobes Rejoice

Phoenix has been improved over the past few years, It is still a model for those who want to golf in an eco-friendly way. There are trees on #18 only, so those of us that like a little curvature on our drives don't have much to worry about.
#18 is actually a pretty good candidate for tough but fair par 4s in Columbus. Drive over a hefty lake to a sloping dogleg left, then a wicked approach to a narrow green cut into a hillside and surrounded by a creek front and left.
As to the rest of the course, bring extra balls, because the rough will eat them up. The owners had the good sense to keep the waste areas wild - it adds to the experience as long as the ranger is capable of keeping ball hunters moving.

Thar's sand in them thar bunkers

The owner invested in good sand recently, and the traps are in useful positions. I only bring this up because this is not true of most central Ohio courses where they are either overtaken by dirt and or are only useful for snagging terrible shots.
In addition the trees are maturing nicely and add greatly to the defense. The only thing I would change are the overabundant grass clippings on the fairways. Greens were good speed and were well maintained. Hundreds of mature trees have been sawed off at the stump and those stumps should be removed. Not to worry, there are still plenty of trees so you have to respect them.
Best holes are the par 5 6th where 5 is a good score, and the par 3 6th over a lake of blooming water lilies and a voracious front bunker. Every hole can bite you but the birdies are there if you avoid trouble. Love this course.

Long Drive for Long Wait

Cable looks like a drivable distance from Columbus on a map, but it takes longer than you think. The course sports rolling hills and is well designed. The hazards are actually where you are trying to land your ball.
Best hole is par five #6 where you have to take it between or over 2 lakes on the drive , then shoot uphill as the fairway doglegs right to a downslope, then a short wedge across a creek to the green.
Many holes can hurt the average golfer (I was 6 over handicap).
Many old trees have been cut down but there are still plenty left.
When we got there, we saw that golfers were on every visible hole and they were not fast golfers. Can't say I enjoyed the four and a half hour round length.
So, If you want to play a hilly well designed course and don't mind taking your time, Woodland is for you.
