Great staff. Bad pace of play.

3 sets of 9...first set of 9 was going great until 7th hole. They had some kind of outing, maybe the Saturday morning members play...but whatever reason...we played 6 holes in an hour 15. Took another hour 10 to play 3 more holes. When we made the turn at 10....I jumped to 18 and drove backwards to see what the hold up was. 18 through 16 had nobody...then it was 6some, 4some, 4some, 5some, 4some, 4some, 4some, 4some then my 3some.

Some holes were 3 groups deep because of that lead group slowing up everyone. That's a ranger issue. I get they were probably playing for money, points, whatever...but an hour 10 minutes to play 3 holes...and slowing down from there is not right. I play 16 to 18 and left.

Thought about playing some on the other 9 set but went home instead.

With that said...course layout is ok. Ho hum...nothing spectacular, but nothing really bad either. Maintained very well for this time of year. They had a ton of rain a day or so before but still allowed driving on fairways, so kudos for that. Drained well.

Great value for a hot deal

Good fairways with picture frame bordering. Rough wasn't too deep that you lose your ball.

Great greens. Great staff. Pro shop isn't much. Tee boxes could use some.help. 5 tee shots require thinking and planning.

Not a bad lie anywhere.

So glad I played despite hard rain

Was raining so hard in downtown area and nobody was answering my phone calls so I figured course was closed. 3 hours from my house but I've been wanting to at least see it for 2 years so i stopped by anyway while I was in the area. So glad I did.

Was hesitant to play but players just coming off assured me it drained very well, and they were correct. Rain stayed off, just slight rain, plenty pleasant enough to continue to play.

The clubhouse is basically an 800 square foot house with nothing to speak off but don't let that fool you. Step behind the clubhouse and look at the range...amazing view that only gets better.

at least 14 of the 18 holes can be signature holes elsewhere. No real water to speak of, would've loved a waterfall feature or fountain somewhere.

Pure mountain golf with major elevation changes and undulating greens.

What makes this course so great is not just the artificial turf like conditions that rival any PGA course I've played (Sawgrass, Pinehurst, Summerlin, Scottsdale to name a few) but the layout is absolutely spot on if you play from your proper tees. The yardage length tee to green was planned perfectly including accounting for the elevation changes. One example of this is hole 15 where you're teeing to a fairway that is at least 300 feet below in elevation drop...and your drive will be well over 300 yards...yet with a normal 250 yard drive swing you'll end up dead center of the dogleg. What a tremendous design.

Trent Jones got it right when designing. Elevated tees to greens below on nearly every hole. Maybe one hole you're hitting to an elevated green.

Get a golfnow rate. Don't pay the rack rate of $150+. when you pay $85 and less. Still pretty pricey for my taste but this is by far the best mountain course I've ever played.

Good with the golf now pricing

Walked in, was going to play 9 only and was told they don't have a 9 hole rate so I was charged $92.

As I made my way to the cart I checked golfnow and 5 minutes after my tee time was a $72 rate so I walked backed in and asked foe the $20 difference and was told no.

Ok. I asked for refund, and they did, and while.peicessing refund booked rhe golfnow. Cashier saw the reservation instantly and off I went.

Front 9 has great desert landscaping, homes with caucus plants, slight elevation changes, water features. Was very eased with that side.

Back 9 juat wonders through the neighborhood. Nothing to see, much less landscape features.

Greatmlayoutnif you lay from the proper tees. Couple of great risk reward shots, not just into green but off tee as well. Gotta know your game if you're going to be aggressive.

Worth the $70 price.

Second best TPC Course I've played..behind Sawgrass only

Layout is simple enough yet you feel like each hole stands alone. Bordered perfectly with grass ending and desert rock beginning. Specifically placed floral to accentuate each hole gives a little different feel on each one, for example a 20 foot tall cactus at one par three versus brightly colored flowers at another tee box.

The wildlife is so used to humans they just lay there as you hit your next shot. The birds will constantly fly into your golf cart and take your food if you're not there to prevent them.

Not a fan of not being able to drive the golf cart into the desert rocks, but I get it, don't want to tear up the carts.

Staff came by with wet cold towels.

Great halfway house at the turn.

I expected a larger, more diverse and expansive driving range but it was adequate.

Book an afternoon round at the lower price point. Not as many golfers. I'm a single and it took 2 hours, 10 minutes with me slowing down and enjoying the final 3 holes.

For the price it's the best value in the area.

Semi private conditions at public prices. Greens are always excellent. Got 2 inches rain the night before so course was very soggy bur greens were still dry and rolled smooth. If you're in the area gotta play this course

Better then I remembered

Each hole has its own scenery and feel. A different shot each time.not just drive down the middle and a wedge in. Whether it's a lake next to the fairway, a 20 foot rock wall next to the green, flora...whatever each hole offers a different look and feel. Each hole is it's own seperate space as well. A must play for the area.

Great practice course if you're in the area

As other reviews state, no sand, no water but mounding around greens and light undulations prevent it being too boring. Maintained well enough. What makes it a great choice is the price. While other places are approaching $70 it's great to still be able to find a place that's pretty decent maintenance for less then $30.

Greens are as good as any other place. It's just the tee boxes, fairways and carts they reduce cost on. My cart still had the previous players card and a couple cigaretette buttons in it so it clearly wasn't washed out. That's OK though, for the price I paid.

Rough and fairway height are just right. Two shots were a little out of whack..approach on 3, tee shot on 8.

Only 9 holes but once again, less then $30 to practice at a decent place is worth it.

Excellent layout, poor conditions

Water features on nearly every hole, though it's along side and doesn't come into play as long as you don't spray your shots.

Great placement of bunkering, mounds, trees and other strategy items.

Such a good design yet conditions make it worth no more then $35.

Great at a hot deal price

Greens currently need help but they're probably about to aerify like other courses in the area so it's understandable. Layout has juat enough direction changes qith water in play on moat holes.

Great staff.

I played as a single and on hole 4 came upon a 4 some qhom were waiting behind another foursome. I skipped hole 5 and there was no one in front of me. Finished 18 holes in 1 hour 48 minutes.

Uneventful and inscenic until hole 18 where you end at a marsh view. A couple areas of a good lake view but not really astounding.

Definite play if you're in the area

Routing of holes is pretty bland but a good job of desiging each hole. What I mean by that is each hole is a little different but there is no overall flow. You feel like you're just playing around at a municipal.

You have to be able to carry the ball to good measurements because of forced carry over hazards. I personally love that as I'm a high ball flight/low spin player but if you can't fly the ball with ease you'll struggle get on the green.

Greens were rolling very well. The course spends time not just maintaining the grass on the greens but all around it as well. It seems like the greens are the focal point. with the bunkering, landscaping, cart pathing around...very well planned out greens.

Hole 1 and Hole 10 has over seeding and extra fairway maintenance I guess to give you great first impression but the rest of the fairways are good, just not as great as these first two.

Not worth half the price...of a hot deal

Don't waste your money like I did. Worth maybe $45 for the great marsh views. Conditions are nowhere near the pictureskline. Look at my pictures on my Google review. Staff was great and worked well to make it enjoyable. I got a hot deal for $80 and was highly disappointed. My knee consolation is I didn't pay the $120 they want for regular rate. Ridiculous..

Play the course. Avoid the pro shop guy.

Amazing combination of basic North Carolina backyard condition as the rough area yet the fairway and greens are top notch. It is distinctly North Carolina. Only course I've ever played where next to the cart path and all the rough area is just like everyone's backyard..bare, rocky, hardpan, small fescue with wild weeds..the kind of cow pasture you don't want to play on. Yet the fairway and greens are as good as an semi-private you'll ever play.

Layout is undeniably unique. Every hole has it own characteristics. Each hole has it own club selection. Almost to the point of "goony" golf in places with I personally absolutely love. Something different to remember a course versus hit hard and straight to have a wedge to the green. This layout is not that. The greens are 3 tier is certain spots. Love it, love it, love it.

With that said I'll never go back. The staff is best left alone. I called yesterday to inquire about pricing and said I am a single player, can play 18 in an hour and half if no one holds me up. Can I come at 5pm? Was told they don't make tee times after 4, Ok...can I just show up and get out there, even if it's just for 9? Reply was I can't put you down and I can't tell you if you can get out there or not. I said I'm coming from an hour and half away and I just need to know before I come am I going to be allowed to play? Was told "Buddy I just make minimal wage here I can't tell you what to do. I'm saying out last tee time is 4pm and if you show up after that I don't know if you'll go out or not".

So from there I booked a hot deal for the next day on Golf Now. Work came in this morning that had to be done so I knew I wouldn't get there in time. I fully understand the course gets nothing off the hot deals so I offered to come later and pay the difference. Same guy as yesterday replied "You have to contact Golf Now and have them cancel and make a completely new reservation with us." I said I don't mind playing just nine because I know hot deals are non cancellable. The guy replied no once again. So when I said ok so it seems since I can't arrive 2 and half hours or so late and play only 9 instead of 18 then I'm just screwed out of what I payed. The guy on the phone immediately started jerking back and said we're not screwing you because you paid Golfnow not us. The only way we're going to change your time is you make a completely new reservation with us. Luckily Golfnow took care of it and I ended up paying the difference.

If I didn't reach such great reviews of the course...and those reviews are accurate it is a tremendous course...I would have not went simply because of the guy making minimal wage in the pro shop that obviously doesn't want to be there. When I showed up at the time I said I would be there there were 5 cars in the parking lot. There was no starter at the bag drop so I didn't even bother checking in. I loaded up my bag on the cart on went to the first hole. I finished my round in an hour and 45 minutes and there were two other cars besides me when I left.

Play the course. Worth the drive if you want a unique experience. Avoid the pro shop guy if you can. I hope he finds a job he's happy at since he doesn't want to be there.

Great deal for $24. Hard Layout.

Greens are great condition. Fairway could use some work, but really not bad. For a slicer/fader this is a difficult course to enjoy. Plays longer than most courses because constantly hitting to uphill greens.

Worth it..if you're in the area.

Not worth an hour drive but a well maintained course. Nothing fancy. No major memory yo talk about. Only hole 18 is worth mentioning as it ends facing the waterway.

Water on most holes but not in play. Only if you hook or slice real badly.

Great pace of play. Great choice if you're in the area for less than $40. Just not worth an hour up and an hour back to myrtle beach.

Great choice if your in the area

Not a true links style course. Maintained conditions. Easy layout, you don't have to draw or fade any shots. Not much scenery. Not much up and down elevation. Pretty mundane course but the conditions are really well. They try to make it feel like a Scottish course, and the clubhouse is pretty neat to see. Good course overall, worth about $35 at most.

Great for hot deal

Worth every penny of a $20 hot deal. Once regular rates go back to $35 plus, harder to enjoy it. The scenery alone is worth a $25 price.

Greens are still healing, which I knew before I went. Actually thought they were better than I expected.

Fairways aren't as plush as I remember. Pretty hard pan throughout but very playable.

No sand as previous reviews mention. Might as well pick up ball and toss out.

I played single and every group let me threw, so usual round under 2 hours.

Best Greens around. Layout is odd. Good value for $30 or under

Not worth $40. Pushing it at $35. Definelty worth $30 or under. Greens are top notch. Fairway was slight above good...but factor in the several inches of rain the past couple of days fairways were much better than expected.

Course conditions were as good as they could be. Just the layout for me doesn't suit my taste. Feels like a Donald Ross course at times, hitting to uphill greens constantly. The holes that bend are ok because you actually don't have to fade your drive. The designer made it where you land your normal driver distance and then still have a straight approach, so that part of the layout is good.

Worth it if you can play for $30 and under.
