Always enjoyable to play

Course is always in good condition with greens being the highlight. Greens hold balls and putt true and a bit on the fast side. Layout is interesting with challenging par 3 holes that require accurate tee shots to provide chance at par. Par 4s vary in length from easily reachable with short irons to some requiring longer approach shots. Par 5s not overly long and provide birdie opportunities. Water comes into play on several holes.
Only bad point of golf course are the bunkers. They are cut clean and well-defined areas, they just need to be raked deep and perhaps more and better sand to make them even playable. When we played, the ball always funneled to low part of bunker and playing from them was similar to hitting off a cart path. Packed and pretty much rock hard.

Great layout; Exceptional condition

Late season round finds Sanctuary in exceptional condition compared to other courses. Tee boxes, fairways and greens were beautiful. Greens were recently aerated and about half way back.

Really enjoyed the layout with most holes offering something different in terms of carry over naturalized areas or bunkers guarding pins, creeks and water hazards (all clearly marked with 'distance to water' yardages at tee box) or fairway mounding and elevation changes.

We played black tees at just under 6100 yards so the length was suitable to all in our group. You can certainly play the course from a much longer length if you choose but for our group it seemed very playable at 6100 yards.

Lots of elevated greens ... hit one more club

Newer course, pretty good shape for the hot, dry summer we've had this year. Greens were exceptional and obviously have been watered perfectly. Good shape, putted well and held balls. Fairways were firm and tee balls rolled out nicely making for shorter shots into most par-4 holes. Many greens were elevated ... and not a little bit, but enough for approach shots to be clubbed up 1 or even 2 clubs to get all the way to the hole.

Nice layout and the biggest feature is definitely the elevated greens. Miss greens deep and you'll pay. Missing short was much better. Due to a less-than-mature course, errant drives didn't make you pay much. Again, the greens were in really nice condition and had been watered just the right amount to hold approach shots. They putted nicely, too.

Old school parkland style course is great

Great parkland style course with just enough hills, trees and obstacles to keep it interesting yet fair. A good score can be had by keeping the ball in play. Second shots around the green are safe; greens and pin placements easily accessible.

Fairways (bent grass) were mowed nice and tight, greens, (bent) held balls nicely and were a bit quicker than normal for the area. Greens were also tough to read. They only LOOK flat! Now that the course has dried out a bit (NE Ohio spring rains, ugh!) drives rolled out nicely. Front nine is more open, back nine has some doglegs, a lake (#16, I believe) and demands better shot-making skills. #18 is the 'signature hole' on the course. It's a WAY downhill par-3 that plays 110-140 yards depending on pin placement on a narrow, but very deep green. You can easily make par ... or a SIX on this hole.

Overall, nice people staff the clubhouse, the course is well-kept and offers a very enjoyable round of golf. I'll play there again.

Huge elevation changes here!

As luck would have it, the course took on an inch or more rain within 12 hours of my play date. Course was pretty soggy in places.

The course itself is picturesque with the huge elevation changes - both up and down. Some holes are a long launch from tee box (we played blue tees) to fairway. Layout is great and rewards good shots and presents ample trouble on the not-so- good ones. We hit both there.

The greens were not in any kind of shape even on May 1. They need rolled and mowed. For the condition of the rest of the course, (tees, fairways and overall course layout) the greens were a disappointment. Bumpy, slow and shaggy, don't hold shots well is the only way to describe them.

Beware of blind tee shots. There are several and even a blind tee shot on a par-3 hole.

Overall, I will definitely go again later in the summer if it ever stops raining and dries out. The course would play much differently (shorter) with drives being able to roll out on the beautiful and well-kept fairways.

Ripping NE Ohio Golf Courses in APRIL?

I'm going to respond to the people who ripped this golf course after playing in early- or mid-April. Guys, we live in NE Ohio! The weather is brutal and NO courses are in decent shape the 2nd week of April, period.

If you want great mid-summer conditions I suggest you travel to and play in Florida. Your reviews are completely unfair.

I played Raintree Mother's Day. Course was in very good condition for only being May 10. After the brutal winter and unfavorable spring weather we've had, the course was in pretty good shape. Give ALL course superintendents a break, ok?

Always a pleasure to play

Valley View is located in a valley surrounded by woods and TowPath Trail. The Cuyahoga River cuts through on many holes. Scenery (and wildlife) is beautiful, especially in the fall. Course conditions were pristine for 3rd week of Sept. Greens in great shape, held shots and putted nicely. Fairways also in great shape. Lots of HUGE pines line some of the fairways and rough areas.

Valley View is simply a joy to play. Nothing close to 'beating up' on you as a player. Expect to shoot a good round. Best holes on Valley 9 are Nos. 2 and 8. Both challenging par 4s. Best holes on River 9 are Nos. 7 and 9. Both are par 5s. Par is a good score on both. Best holes on 3rd nine (Lakes) are Nos. 2 and 8. #2 is a 3 shot par-5; 8 is a downhill par-4 where a perfect drive provides a birdie opportunity.

Give this gem a play. You'll come away feeling good about the course AND your game!

Nice and very scenic layout, challenging course

Enjoyed the layout. Shorter holes have you thinking birdie/par but require quality shots to score. Longer holes will test your driver and long clubs in the bag. Par 5s require layup shots if you're not a long player. #18 is a great finishing hole. Probably one of the better finishing holes anywhere.

Enjoyed the course. Staff could not have been nicer and more accommodating. Put this on your list of courses to play and soon.

Nice track, a real 'hidden gem'

Wife and I enjoyed our round at Pheasant Run. Staff were extremely welcoming and friendly.

The course appears to be right in front of you but beware of the hazards that can easily eat into your game. Water hazards are below ground level and can grab a ball. The later holes on the front nine are tree lined and tight. Errant shots = lost balls!

Overall a nice place to play, a pretty good challenge and decent play means a good score..

Early in the year, but really nice shape already

Course was in great shape this early in the year given the bad winter and spring thus far. Greens not grown in yet but were rolled and putts rolled ok. Definitely held shots. Overall Legend's is a course that can be relied upon to deliver a decent round of golf every time. Pace was great and it was busy Sunday when we played. No pressure from behind and we waited on exactly one tee for a par-3 green to clear.

Always a great track

Brookledge is one of the nicest "muni" courses in NE Ohio. Always in great shape, moves well and a good challenge from the blue tees. Greens were recently areated but still held a good shot and putted ok given conditions. Fairways perfect, well-defined with an intermediate cut before the rough area. Also, naturalized areas with long grasses cut down for fall/winter season.

Premium price - disappointing conditions

The Quarry is certainly a premium-priced track. So, what exactly do you get for your money? First off, a 5+ hour round. Secondly, the greens were trashed! Freshly cut ball marks, spike marks everywhere near the holes from people who apparently don't care about the condition they leave behind on a green.

Pace? I saw two rangers out there. Neither of whom could speed up the 4-some two groups in front of us from their 'US-Open' pace of play. We ended up joining the group in front of us but still played #18 in the dark. And we teed off at 2:00pm!!! Spacing tee times 10 minutes apart means nothing if rangers can't keep the players moving.

The Quarry is a beautiful track, very challeging, picutresque and unique for the area. But for the money we paid for an excruciatingly SLOW round and putting on trashed greens, returning to play again is probably out of the question.

Sunday Afternoon Golfing

Teed off 1:30 Sunday afternoon. Couple of outings going on which made pace a bit slow. Usually this course moves well and 3.5 hours is normal. Today's 18 hole round (4-some) took just under 5 hours. Course is always in nice condition and the people who work there always make you feel welcome. Course, price, value all make for a place you want to return and play again.

Birdies, Pars, Bogeys and "Others" to be had here

I like this track and layout that winds through and around an upscale housing development. This season, we've had inches upon inches of rain. It's affected all courses locally, this one as well. Several fairways saw standing water for days and it shows here.

There are stretches of holes where good shots can equal birdies and pars and some stretches, (12-14) where getting away just a few over should be considered a 'win.' My favorite stretch is the finishing 4 holes. Hole 15 is a birdie/par hole; 16 is a dangerous tee shot that might find a ravine; Your BEST of tee shots on the par-3 17th can easily result in a bogey. Hole 18 is a beautiful finishing hole dogleg right around a large lake.

Best shape for course in years!

Played on a Sunday afternoon. Course traffic fairly heavy but moved along great. No waiting on groups in front and group behind not breathing down our necks. Finished 18 hole round under 4 hours. Great time for a Sunday afternoon.

Course has seen a lot of work this year. Bunkers all well defined, cut with sharp edges and new sand. Bunkers were raked smooth and sand soft. Greens were just plain fast! Not many flat and/or straight putts out there.

Signature holes are probably the closing 5 holes of the round starting with a birdie opportunity followed by a downhill 178 yard par 3 over a ravine. Next up is a long par-5 that sould include a google maps ap due to blind shots and lots of length to negotiate. 17 another possible birdie followed by a great finishing hole in #18.

Find it, and it's a gem!

The Pines is completely surrounded by Wayne Cty farming community. Kind of tough to find the first time, but once you do, it's a course you'll want to play again. Older design, several straight holes, but greens are large and well-kept. Fairways are well-defined with some bunkering. Staff at the course are very kind to all and create a nice atmosphere for weekend play. Although I'm not a fan of a course that finiishes with a par-3, the par-3 18th is a real challenge. Not that long, but requires a great swing to an elevated green guarded by trees and bunkers. Make par there and whatever else happened out there doesn't matter. Play The Pines. You'll enjoy it.

Where are the Hawks?

Staff treats you well from the time you drop your clubs until you leave the course after the round. Tees, fairways, roughs and greens all in very nice shape for a late in the season round.

Roughs were fertilized, thick and green. Although cut down to a manageable length, still tough to negotiate. Keeping it in the short stuff is the key to a good round at Hawk's Nest.

A couple years back, Hawk's Nest flipped the nines, so the original #1 is now #10. Signature holes, (most interesting) for me are #9 and #11. Both are great holes to play with 9 being a really tough par and 11 a great drive provides a great birdie opportunity.
