Walked

Old McKenzie Course

Fun to play every once in awhile but overpriced for walking definitely, course is in decent shape with little coverage on greens but they roll pretty good.Carts are still as crappy as the first time I golfed here 15 years ago.....Thank God to the San Francisco Garter Snake to keep this place alive, certainly no money has been put into it but still a fun place to play

Not much different from when it was willow Park

Drains terribl;e so everything was very muddy and ball just stuck when it landed,to be fair greens rolled pretty good but were covered with either leaves, sticks or goose crap which made putting hard at half the holes the others ok.I do love they have ball washers at every hole as they were very much needed, looks like there clearing out some areas and either addind more ponds or just water that hasn't drained yet on the back.sand traps were like mud almost with only a couple actually having sand,18th hole was like hitting out of mud.

Thank you for your review! We apologize that you didn't fully enjoy your round with us. At the time, we were recovering from the wet season and we're currently working on improving the course drainage. We do appreciate your feedback though. The course is looking quite good now, so we hope you'll come give us another try!

It was never mentioned they recently punched the greens!

This is something that always aggravates me as I would NEVER play an aerated course knowingly when so many others are available not aerated.Although the rest of the course was in great condition and they had a reggae festival going so great music was playing the greens are a crucial part to having a good score and its frustrating when that part is takin away. Also there was an 8-some behind us(yes you heard me right) I found that completely ridiculous and it backed up everyone behind us and the GC representative didn't do anything when he drove by.....Crazy!

Still as I remembered

It had been two years since playing here as the first time I had played here conditions were poor at best with numerous temporary greens.Much to my surprise it was worse this time.
Starting with parking,if you come sunday forget it,Parking lots are always full from the buffet so finding parking is as hard as finding your ball on the fairway which looked like they had just cut it fron 5 inches in length with tons of lawn trimmings laying on top for your ball to hide under and keep you searching.
Greens were the worst I have played ever, right there with Bethel Island, literally dirt with tiny remnants of grass starting to grow. Some was dryed mud all cracked and like a desert but the funniest thing was the locals talking about how much better the greens were now......Are you kidding me?Better then what putting in mud I suppose. We ended up joining the guys in front of us the last half as we waited every hole and people were slicing balls off constantly into our fairway from ours yelling "FORE",luckily no one got hit.Funny part was when one of the guys said its hard to judge the putts now some grass is starting to grow on the green, imagine that grass on the greens what an inconveinance.I laughed at that and he started lkaughing as well after saying that but the ball rolled so bumpy down the patchy dirt hardpan.....I should have really taken photo's and posted them but didn't.Anyway if you too don't like grass on the greens like those guys then this is the place for you.

Nothing special but still a fun day of golf

It was in better condition then Seascape the day before but still had a lot of standing water all over.Greens played great and what stood out to me was even with all this rain we have been getting the ponds are all still empty? There was more water and deeper water on the 10th fairway so why is it none of the water found its way into the water hazards?Would have been a better day but we had an incredibly rude and terrible playing threesome in front of us after 6 holes that wouldn't let us by.Why is it that people tee off from the tips andtwo out of three lose there ball and one barely gets past the front tee almost every hole yet they continue to play from the back...…...guess ya can't fix stupid right?

Very Very Soggy,

But considering all the rain recently what can you expect. This course doesn't drain particularly well,in fact a few trees had fallen down because of the heavy rain.I will say it was the fastest round to date I have ever played there(4hrs 20 mins)but then again not many people were playing. No cart girl and the grill wasn't really on it either.I called from the 8th hole and ordered when we got there they forgot our order,so I ordered again a burger and fries and they said they would bring it to me,when they brought it ,was a burger and chips?Whatever definitely won't do that again.all in all ok but nothing stood out as wonderful just better then staying home in the house I guess but we were all so muddy afterwards

They simply overbook this course and allow 5 somes

That is the only reason I can't give this higher marks. In the last 3 times I've played this course the rounds run 5 1/2 - 6 1/2 hrs and I don't see that ever being different unless you play during the week or first thing in the morning which I have not done yet.The course is fun but you simply can't justify waiting 5-10 minutes a shot,it makes for a terrible game and experience. Then of course why do they allow 5-somes with this problem?(I guess there reasoning here is there members and its gonna be slow play anyway)

Fun course but overpriced for what it is

This course is fun to play but nothing to write home about.Greens decent with subtle breaks that roll true, fairways decent and tee boxes fine but just kind of bland.Nothing real challenging just simple straight forward golf wirh some doglegs and a couple of lakes

Perfect Day.....

Until we caught up to a miserable foursome that had NO common sense or etiquette to let us play through even though most EVERY hole three of the four would be looking for there balls and no one was in front of them for as far as you could see(at least 3 holes)So from then on the game got really bad and people starting coming up on us from behind when we were two to three holes ahead of anyone near the 4th hole

Greens were terribly slow and bouncy

This is usually a decent track to go use your irons and enjoy some par 3's,but I took a buddy there today and was embarrassed.Greens were worst I have ever played here,so slow you had to hit it pretty hard or it wouldn't make it to the cup downhill even. And then on top of that the ball bounced everywhere when it was rolling so holing out was pure luck on putts from 4-5 feet.other then that it was ok,fairways had some dry spots but it is summer and overall it was playable.....but the greens are the most important part of this equation so without them only a hole in one would offset that.None the less we got through it and had one of there incredible Tri Tip sandwiches there that was amazing, came with potato salad and watermelon and was excellent for 11.00$

Thank you for playing Dublin Ranch Golf Course. We are sorry to hear you were disappointed. The reason for the slow greens is due to our superintendent growing them out to make sure they don't die for the recent heat wave we have been experiencing. Obviously, we take great pride with our greens so protecting them is our number one concern. We hope you'll consider coming back to give us another try in the near future. We promise we won't disappoint!

minimalist design is what they strived for and I think thats exactly how I would describe it...

Lets start off with the obvious....Is it worth the 120.00 pricetag-absolutely NOT! Was it a fun track to play....I had a good time, first 4 holes started very slow at 20-25 mins per hole and yes we waited at every hole the round but it did pick up a little on the back. But we did indeed wait at every hole,in fact we saw an 8some on one hole even. For a course just opening after a 2 and 1/2 year wait you would think it would be pristine but it has ALOT of brown grass throughout on fairways(mostly the first 9 holes)Greens were in great condition and definitely the challenge on this course with very few flat lies which I did love.Carts were awesome with GPS(But I think the GPS is off, using the yardage given on screen I was always long)They were really comfortable and newer although the clanking around from the tow bar is annoying.I was also surprised that they have not paved or finished the cart paths yet very very dusty. And there wasn't one ball cleaner on the whole course which was odd.Overall all a major improvement over the old course but the price is not realistic for what it is.I guess if your an alameda resident at twilight you can play for 30 bucks which for that this would be a great bargain, but for the non residents playing normal rates forget it,coyote creek tournament,Wente,Poppy Ridge and Cinnabar all make this pale in comparison.I was actually dumbfounded by how crowded this was but all I can guess is there alameda residents and lucky there on the same deal San Francisco residents are on there for presidio and Harding Park.I would only recomend this course if you can find a HOT deal for under 50.00 at 2:00 or before.

We appreciate you taking time to share your experience. I want to clarify rates for non-residents do vary some based on various factors. As we move into September the current rates for non-resident are around $60 weekday and $80 weekend walking with $15 optional carts. We also offer NCGA member rates at $45 weekday and $64 walking.

Overall the course design is to play more dry and firm as a links style sand belt course. This gives players more roll.

Ball washers and benches have been added since you played and cart paths will be completed in the coming months. Slow play is never fun, but it is improving as we have modified the course set up on some holes, which has made a markable difference with pace of play now averaging 4-4:30. Glad you enjoyed many things about the round and appreciate the feedback on the other items. We do care and thank you for sharing.

haven't played here in 5 years

I thought if there parking cars on the course it must be in terrible shape. But me and a buddy from work played here after work and it was great, not perfect shape of course but decent shape and relatively no one here, pace of play was great at 4 hours(on a work day)and course was fun after not playing here in so long.Definately worth playing if your not super picky and just want to shoot a game

never mentioned the three tournaments in front of us...

first four holes went ok just waiting for the group in front of you then we came to the 2nd par 3 and there were 20 people waiting at the tee(no joke). When I called the front desk they said its always like that but it will clear up right afterword......it NEVER cleared up and was the most painstakingly slow round I have yet to play. Then there was this goofy older marshall that came out and said,"are you a 10 or under handicap?if not go ahead and hit when there on the green".I laughed and said really,I can still hit it to the green your kidding right?anyway he got flustered and drove up to the green and was waving me on to hit.I waited till they cleared the green hit a 5 wood and landed 8' from the hole.He then drove away....what a strange encounter I must say, anyway this course is alright but tends to always play slow it was just close and that's why we chose it.most the bunkers were ok which is better then some courses but still its pretty flat without much character for me,I prefer hill courses with elevation changes and ravines to keep you on your toes, but still if you can get a good rate here and don't mind the pace then this could be for you, does get windy towards the end of your round so the last 4 holes always play long

Still not what it was,but working on it....

This course has great potential but they need to get a liquor license and a cook so they have food there still.Still trying to get course back to what it was and why they allow 6somes is beyond me?There is NO way this is not going to slow down pace of play which was ok the first 9 but then slowed way down when we hit the back up and they had 2 open holes in front of them.We saw them on 15 when we were on 11 …..I couldn't figure out why so many people were on the green until I watched awhile and realized why it was so backed up from that hole on.I am glad though they reopened this course it is wonderful when everything is going smoothly.I would guess in a month or so all could be back to normal and thriving

An amazing course with excellent greens

The layout is great, nothing real basic and some incredible designed holes.I love courses like this that challenge you but course knowledge is a must here, your second round will be better for sure as a lot of holes I had no idea how to play them so went with safe and what I could see.Alot of water for such a hot area small creeks and ponds on a lot of holes so very scenic even a mayan ruin I beleive

incredible greens

This course is somewhat flat but still fun to play.Gets very crowded on weekends and can be slow for sure but the greens here are amazing.Fast and True with many water hazards.I can't say it amazes me in any particular way,as I like hill courses much better with numerous elevation changes, but today the greens made up for there lack of that.Course overall is in good condition but again I found myself waiting at every hole after the first 2 holes which can be a buzz kill when trying to keep your tempo on que

Not the usual Blackhorse

This is one of my 10 favorite courses in California, but this last visit wasn't the regular Blackhorse. Not sure why but a lot of dead areas on the grass, you couldn't drive on the course as they have a tournament coming up in a month.Lots of dead tree branches laying around everywhere, still had a fun round just not the top notch round I grown used to when I golf here.
