Falcon Golf Club
Played On 11/23/2018Solid Course with Friendly Staff
Golf Course was in very playable shape on fairways and greens. Overseed was good.
There was no on-course beverage service.
Staff was courteous and helpful before and after the round. Pace of play was very slow, 5 hours after a 20 minute start delay.
Copper Canyon Golf Club - Vista/Lake Course
Played On 04/17/2018Great Course and Conditions
Copper Canyon is a beautiful course and the conditions were excellent. Challenging, fun and fair. Good pace of play.
Falcon Golf Club
Played On 04/13/2018Better than Reputation
Falcon has moved up in my ratings. The course was generally in good condition tee to green. The fairways are lush and getting plenty of water. The wind was tough and the 3 long par 3s were killer!
Wigwam Resort - Gold Course
Played On 04/10/2018An Difficult Course in Great Condition
We got a bargain here and the course gave all we could handle. You have to be able to put the ball in the right place to score on this course. Putting is borderline unfair on some holes. I putted off the green into the creek on 18 and I started my put down the center of the green. My only complaint is the layout is confusing in places due to the intertwined Blue Course.
Pueblo El Mirage Golf Club
Played On 04/06/2018Nice Course in a Upscale Trailer Home Community
Pueblo El Mirage is a nice track laid out through a gated manufactured home community. Conditions were good except the greens were recently punched and sanded, so the ball didn't roll true. The round was a bit slow with a big holdup at the turn which took a few holes to clear. Though the residences are in nice condition, the scenery does take away from the courses appeal. Look for a big discount to make this a good value experience.
Sundance Golf Club
Played On 04/05/2018A Good Value Track
I like Sundance for its value as a well maintained desert course. The layout has some surprises so it's good to have some experience especially around greens that have steep slopes on the sides or back that send poorly positioned balls to the desert. The layout is varied and interesting. Greens were good and fairways lush for this time of year.
Trilogy Golf Club at Vistancia
Played On 04/03/2018Top Ten in the West Valley
Trilogy's overall quality design, maintenance and service place it in my short list of courses to play in the West Valley comparable to the Verrado courses. I was disappointed that the tall native grasses shown in the promo photos have evidently dried out and disappeared. The `8th hole is still a beauty.
Scottsdale Silverado Golf Club
Played On 03/31/2018Odd Layout doesn't Affect Play
This course was in great condition. Play was fast and fun with few difficulties if your drive was in the ample fairways. The layout featured holes that required driving the length of a "in" hole to play the next "out" hole since there wasn't room for both in and out holes in some of the layout. Not a problem...just different. The biggest negative was the lack of a driving range.
Wigwam Resort - Red Course
Played On 03/19/2018Fast Afternoon Round
The Red or Heritage course was a pleasant surprise. The issues of feeling courded and slow play on the Gold and Blue courses weren't an issue on the Red. The course was in beautiful shape throughout and we played a 2 pm round in just over 3 hours. We felt like we had the course to ourselves.
The Legacy Golf Club
Played On 03/05/2018Much Improved Exoerience
This centrally located course has a fun layout and excellent practice facility and amenities. This year the course was much improved in maintenance and on course service. We saw the cart girl regularly and the martial was visible to support pace of play. We all walked away feeling that it was a better overall course and experience than our round two years ago.
Coyote Lakes Golf Club
Played On 02/28/2018Compact and Enjoyable
This is a nice desert layout that conserves space. There are some places that an errant drive could find trouble or a house, but generally there is plenty of room. Pace of play was excellent. The carts had GBS which is unusual for the price. Greens were true but a bit slower than average for the desert. Overall this course is a great value.
Union Hills Golf & Country Club
Played On 02/13/2018A Sun City Standard
This is a well maintained course with good pace of play. Nothing spectacular in the layout or views, but a good value.
Coldwater Golf Club
Played On 01/30/2018Hole-In-One
Caution readers! I did get a hole-in-one on the 5th hole, so this review may have some bias. On arrival we were greeted by friendly staffers. The practice facility was adequate though the range grass tee box was pretty bare. The starter (announcer) kept things moving. Visually the course presents a lot of desert waste areas. As long as you stay on the ample fairways, you won't have a problem. The greens were true at medium speed. The course has lots of hills, valleys and bunkers to work around and add interest. I was disappointed to find the bar closed when we finished our round, after 5pm, so I wasn't able to buy drinks and celebrate my hole-in-one.
Arizona Traditions Golf Club
Played On 01/23/2018Good Course at the Right Price
Traditions is a nice residential course well maintained on fairways, tee boxes and greens. The rough was mostly sand areas and bushes with some wet spots or bare spots in bermuda. The rate was good. Probably due to the shotgun start the last few holes hat waits up to three groups at the tee boxes. The wait soured the experience to some extent. The range and practice area was busy due to the shotgun, but were well maintained and large enough to handle the load.
Wigwam Resort - Blue Course
Played On 01/15/2018Well Groomed Short Track
The Patriot or Blue course is a short par 70 great for shorter hitters. The fairways, greens and rough were very well maintained. The course layout is a bit different with lots of par 3s and par 5s.There are some tough water holes that require an accurate shot. Watch where you are going because there are some places the three courses overlap and you can get mixed up. The only maintenance issue was the driving range had no grass in the marked hitting area. I'll play this course again with my wife.
Grand Canyon University Golf Course
Played On 01/12/2018Nice Course at a good price
Grand Canyon University GC is a pretty bit of flat parkland in the middle of the city. Our round there was pleasant and fun. The course offers plenty of challenges with longish par 3s and lots of big bunkers protecting all of the greens. The fairways and greens were in great shape, and the rough was trimmed and consistent. The course conditions were the best I've seen in the Phoenix for a course in this price range. The staff is attentive. The only downside was that the range was using mats on our day of play. I'll definitely be back.
Tres Rios Golf Course at Estrella Mountain Park
Played On 01/08/2018Good Golf Outing at a Great Value
I have played Tres Rios a few times this year, and every time I have fun for a lot less money than the beautiful big name courses in the West Valley. The fairways and greens are well kept. The rough varies and you can find dirt and mud sometimes. Take a drop! The pros would play it up on much better lies. Enjoy the game!
The course layout is fine It's flat but the long par 4's will challenge most of us. Definitely walkable if you want.
The staff is friendly and appreciates you playing the course. There is no water on the course, but they provide a cooler with two bottles of water for free.
Southern Ridge Golf Club
Played On 12/30/2017No Returns Here!
Southern Ridge looks like it has been nearly abandoned. Maintenance is lacking throughout fairways and rough. The fairways look partially overseeded, and the rough is generally dirt. Greens were OK. There are irrigation leaks throughout the course, so it seemed I was always playing a muddy ball. Slow play due to a 5-some in front of us. I don't recommend this course!
Verrado Golf Club - Victory Course
Played On 10/21/2017Good to be Back to Verrado
The Victory course at Verrado is in excellent condition after the summer's rest and reseeding. The only condition issue was having to leave the carts on the paths. That and GPS course mapping made for some long walks with a large handful of clubs. Staff was friendly and helpful as usual.
The Mook at Alderbrook
Played On 09/22/2015Play this one in a Crunch and at a Discount
Alderbrook is in need of renovation and maintenance, though there may not be room to correct all of the defects in the layout. The layout feels cramped on several holes which results in some close adjacent holes that are protected by large trees. The front nine is ok, but there is an absolutely awful uphill par three on the back that should be eliminated. Hole 11, 12 and 13 on back nine are adjacent hole, so you have to walk back up 12 after playing it to the tee box of 13. The layout online shows 12 as a short par 3, indicating either history or a future change?
Maintenance is spotty. The greens were very slow, and rough. You couldn't count on the ball tracking unless you rammed the ball to the back of the hole.
Sand traps were not raked and had several days of animal footprints there to catch your ball. Fairways were generally green and in good condition.
I'd only play this course as a practice round to work on drives and approach shots. Forget fair scoring around the greens.
