San Vicente Golf Resort
Played On 05/24/2017An out of the way Gem.
I love everything about San Vicente except for the trip out there. It's an unrequited love as the course slaps me to the curb almost every time. The course is in great condition and I've always been a huge fan of the layout. As far as the drive to and from San Diego, you're always at the mercy of road construction and accidents on 67. San V is a once a year treat for me and I got a great $20 Hot Deal to boot.
Singing Hills Golf Resort at Sycuan - Oak Glen
Played On 05/18/2017Amazing price for Sycuan!
I've always felt that the 2 big boy courses at Sycuan are generally overpriced. However, I've seen some great Hot Deals on Oak Glen recently so I indulged to the amazing tune of $16 at 1pm. Since it wasn't too busy, the starter let me out a half hour early by myself and I was able to finish in 3:15. Course is in great shape and the greens were especially good... medium fast. I believe they are aerating next week so better jump on that Hot Deal!
Salt Creek Golf Club
Played On 04/27/2017A positive review for a change!
I read all the negative reviews before I played and I personally didn't have any problems with the course condition. The greens were in good shape. They were punched in early April and were a bit slow. The fairways and the bunkers weren't horrible, not great but playable. Guess I have lower standards than most reviewers. Got a great Hot Deal for 17 bones so no whining here.
Boulder Oaks Golf Club
Played On 08/11/2016Boulder Oaks is a work in progress.
My review is mixed. Liked some of the new holes and didn't care for some. Played here for the first time since the redesign yesterday. Played the blue tees which I'm guessing is probably the right tees for mid handicaps like myself. My only complaint is on the 17th... A very unfair carry to the fairway for medium length hitters. Some of the new faiways are going to need some tlc as are the new greens. I'm just glad that there is still golf here. I'm getting sick of the golf course closings over the last few years! Btw, major props to the nice lady in the pro shop that loaned me a golf shirt for the day...Left mine at home... Idiot! LOL
Welk Resort San Diego - Fountains Executive Course
Played On 07/03/2015Wunnerful! Wunnerful! Welk!
Had a nice holiday round at Welk. I don't usually play on weekends or holidays but I got the same weekday hot deal rate so it worked out great. Pace of play was pretty good for a holiday and I finished in about 3 1/2 hours. The course was in good shape but the greens were very slow for my standards and I'm not a fast green guy. The staff was very friendly and they let me tee off well before my starting time which is always appreciated.
Carlton Oaks Lodge & Country Club
Played On 06/03/2015Good Conditions, Great Hot Deals!
Carlton Oaks has been much maligned for it's condition over the last few years but I found it to be in pretty good shape. The greens were on the slow side which is fine by me. The fairways were good with the exception of 16. The 13th had some maintenance issues at the 100 yd marker. The $19 Hot Deal I got was to Dye for.
Miramar Memorial Golf Course
Played On 01/08/2015Loooong round at NAS Miramar!
Rounds at Miramar can get quite lengthy. It took about 5 hours to complete yesterday's hack-a-thon. With all the cool air activity overhead, there's a lot worse places to spend 5 hours... Tee to Green: The tee boxes were in need of a haircut...hard to find a nice place to drop the peg. The fairways were on the hard side with a lot of run. The greens were hacker-fast and this hacker could never figure them out... turrible putting round! Good conditions overall and a great value with a weekday hot-deal.
Eagle Crest Golf Club
Played On 11/04/2014A Toughie but a Goodie!
Eagle Crest has always been a tough course for me but I always look forward to the challenge. Overall, the course is in good shape and the greens are excellent and on the quick side. I'm the wrong person to judge the fairways being that I'm never in them! Even when I think I've hit a good drive, my ball seems to wind up in a fairway bunker or the rough. Great weekday value around noon if you're up for a challenge.
Carlton Oaks Lodge & Country Club
Played On 10/01/2014Not to Dye for!
This Dye course currently is only in fair/poor shape. The marshall told me it was a lot worse about a month ago. I've never been a fan of Dye courses and thankfully, this is the only public one in S.D. County. It's close to home and I got good value. The fairways are patchy and greens are pretty slow...#5 was especially bad. I only recommend it right now if you get good value for your buck.
The Links at Lakehouse
Played On 09/10/2014Much improved except for the name!
I played Lake San Marcos for the first time in over 2 years and was impressed. Not a fan of the Hoity Toity name change but I'll get over it. Everything was much better from a few years ago, paved cart paths, nice fairways, greens and bunkers. Even the traffic heading home on eastbound 78 was better... LOL LSM is definitely back in my North County rotation, especially with a great hot deal.
Chula Vista Golf Course
Played On 09/04/2014A "Preferred Lie" Muni !
I got beat out of a sweet hot deal by a few minutes so I didn't even book on Golf Now but here's my 2 cents anyway: The fairways were poor so preferred lies are the way to go here unless you are a masochist or in a tournament. The greens are always the best part of Chula and were a bit on the quick side. The staff is very friendly and the Marshall/Water Guy comes around a lot to keep you hydrated. Don't forget your $5 cart key deposit! Lates...
Castle Creek Country Club
Played On 08/25/2014Great day at the Crick!
I played Monday as a single in about 3 hours and shot my best round at CC. The starter let me tee off well before my Hot Deal time so I was able to beat the rush hour traffic home. The only negative was I had to dodge the Maint workers doing their mowing. Some were courteous but some couldn't give a bleep and wouldn't move when I hit. The course was in so-so shape, but playable! I've never been that impressed with the greens here. Some are nice, some have quite a few blemishes. Fun Course! Great Price! Great Score!
Cottonwood Golf Club - Ivanhoe Course
Played On 08/11/2014Cottonwood "It is what it is"
I've read a lot of bad reviews, whining about the conditions but I found Ivanhoe yesterday to be very playable. The fairways had brown spots mixed in with green but it's summer and a lot of courses are like that. The greens were consistent... that's about all you can ask for here. Cottonwood "Is what it is"... A cheap round on two fun playable courses.
Salt Creek Golf Club
Played On 07/29/2014Never dull at Salt Creek!
Your ball runs forever on this Links style course. Sometimes it works for you, sometimes against you but it's never boring. The course is in decent shape for mid summer. The greens are very nice but a bit slow. The fairways are hard and fast with a ton of roll. The greenside Archies are on the hard side so be careful not to get "all ball". Salt Creek is always fun and challenging.
Steele Canyon Golf Club - Canyon/Ranch
Played On 07/15/2014Scenic, elevation changes. Enough about my score!
I played Meadow/Canyon, two very different nines. Hot Deal prices are reasonable and the course is in very nice shape. Greens were a tad slower than I've experienced here in the past and some of the bunkers are pretty hard and devoid of sand. Steele Canyon is an "Eye Candy" course with beautiful scenery and elevation changes and charms you while it's kicking your behind and taking your lunch money.
Colina Park Golf Course
Played On 06/24/2014Great Pitch n Putt
I only played the front nine due to the fact the back was closed for a kid's clinic. I prefer to play 18 different holes so I bailed after the front. Course is in great shape and the greens are excellent. The staff is very friendly. I recommend calling the course before booking to ensure all 18 holes are open. Golf Now has some obscene hot deals for 4 bucks during the week!
Stoneridge Country Club
Played On 01/27/2014Private course needs some TLC!
Stoneridge is a private course that apparently only books to us commoners on Mondays. I used my Golf Now reward to play here for the first time. The fairways were in poor shape. The greens were nice but hard and didn't hold well. The tee blocks were decent. The front nine is flat and pretty unappealing. The back nine is hilly and very scenic. Love the back nine! Overall, the course is overpriced for it's condition. I was in love with this course back around 1990 when it hosted a few LPGA tournaments. Times have changed...
Thank you, your review was most helpful.
Friars/Presidio at Riverwalk Golf Club
Played On 7/4/2013Finally found a reasonable deal at Riverwalk!
I don't play Riverwalk very often because of their inflated rates but on July 4th, they threw me an edible bone! I played Friars/ Presidio in about 4 hours and found the course in decent shape. The fairways were spotty at best with good and bad areas. The greens were nice but a bit on the slow side.
We even got some early fireworks when some drunken idiot ran his golf cart deep into a lake... LOL I'll be back when Riverwalk decides to honor me with another bone!
Singing Hills Golf Resort at Sycuan - Oak Glen
Played On 6/12/2013Little sister is in great shape!
I played Oak Glen on Wed and found it mostly in great shape. The greens were beautiful (medium speed) and the fairways were immaculate. My only whine on the course condition was that the sand in the two greenside "Archies" that I visited was hard as a rock. There was a tournament ahead of my group and the tee markers except for the tips, were not set up. Oak Glen, while not as sexy as bigger sister Willow Glen, is a fun play (at the right price) ! Sycuan is a very nice resort with a very friendly and helpful staff.
Mt. Woodson Golf Club
Played On 6/4/2013Woodson is fun to play but bring enough golf balls!
I got a great twilight rate for $19 on Tuesday. As a single, I was able to tee off at least 30 min. earlier than my tee time. Pace of play was slow as I was stuck behind a foursome that didn't allow me to play thru, so I played in about 4 1/2 hrs. The course was in very good shape. The fairways and tee boxes were well maintained and the greens were excellent....medium speed. This course eats golf balls but I actually broke even...lost 3, found 3. Woodson is a short, target golf course with beautiful views and difficult to hit, elevated greens.
Hello and thank you for your 5-star rating! We're delighted you enjoyed your round. Please book another round with us soon, and thanks for choosing San Vicente Golf Resort!
