Strathmore Golf Club
Played On 08/26/2014Well Worth the Drive!
Situated an easy 30 minute's drive from east Calgary the Strathmore Golf Club is a vastly improved facility since the addition of a second nine some eight or ten years ago and an upgraded original nine.
The new (back) nine has a more linksey feel, but at the same time fits well with the more parkland feel of the front. Nice variety of holes regarding length (couple short but fun par 4's) and elevation changes, where available.
Very relaxing setting and experience without compromising the primary tenants of the game - professional staff, proper dress code, well marshalled, very good course conditions, and plenty of risk/reward opportunities.
No complaints whatsoever, and an excellent value for the money as booked through Golf Now. I'll be back :-)
Crystal Ridge Golf Club
Played On 06/03/2014Fun nine-holer!
An excellent value as booked through Golf Now. Not an overly long course, but still plenty of challenge and variety for all levels of golfer. Fairways a bit sparse in places the day I played, but greens were in very good shape - quite slow though.
Water Valley Golf and Country Club
Played On 05/30/2014Beautiful setting, very good course.
This is possibly one of the best golf values within an hour's drive of Calgary. The setting and course layout is lovely, with many elevation changes and tree-lined fairways.
The greens are small but I have yet to see them cut to a reasonable speed - much too slow for a course of this calibre.
Staff did not seem too enthused by my booking through Golf Now, hence have not been back.
Lakeside Golf Club
Played On 7/25/2013Good layout tucked within housing community.
As the name suggests, this course provides a healthy sprinkling of water to challenge most golfers. Mid to high handicappers may find the house-lined fairways a bit tight, but there's still ample room available for well-struck, controlled tee shots.
Some areas of the course still show the effects of the tremendous amount of rain this area has experienced of late, but overall the fairways are exceptional and tee decks and greens are in beautiful condition.
Excellent value with GolfNow discount; rack rate may be a bit pricey though - not unlike many courses in the Calgary area!
Collicutt Siding Golf Course
Played On 7/17/2013It's not how you start, but how you finish!
Collicutt Siding is, like many rural 18 hole courses, the quintessential "tale of two cities." The front nine was apparently a labour of love designed and built by community volunteers and local golf lovers. Pretty decent effort, but nothing to distinguish it from myriad other rural nine hole tracks.
The back nine, which was added a few years later, represents a vast improvement over the front, with nicely contoured fairways, better bunkering, and much more interesting green complexes.
Consequently, my three star rating reflects an average of the two nines - two stars for the front and four for the back.
As an added bonus, the property is situated within a pleasant and peaceful setting, where farm animals, horses, gently rolling pasture land and pristine prairie provide a welcome departure from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Overall, an enjoyable experience, particularly given the phenomenal "hot deal" price I received through GolfNow! I'll be back.
Conestoga Golf Club
Played On 3/24/2013Excellent track. Exceded expectations!
Played this course late March on the way to St. George to kick off a nine day Utah/Nevada golf holiday. Course was in excellent shape for that time of the year, greens very good, layout excellent with plenty of elevation changes and beautiful views. Staff was very helpful and friendly and practice facility is very good. Overall an excellent value at $64 each on Golf Now. Will definately play this course again.
The Classic Club
Played On 12/24/2012Tough course - bring your "A" game!
First game in months; came down from frozen tundra - aka Alberta, Canada - and this course exposed my myriad weaknesses with its numerous water hazards and heavily bunkered greens. Should have played something a bit more forgiving first to warm up, assess my game, and re-align my expectations. Nevertheless, it's a great course, and I'll be back when my game's in better repair.
Note: course condition wasn't quite pristine, but was better than maintained. Value was better than average, but very few courses are "great" values at $100.
Kona Country Club
Played On 08/06/2012Good value with GolfNow discount - expensive without.
Nice layout with good variety of holes (straight/dogleg) and fun elevation changes. Holes by the ocean are very beautiful - bring your camera. Restaurant in clubhouse has gorgeous views of the ocean.
Makalei Golf Club
Played On 08/04/2012Very challenging and fun - cool wildlife photo ops too!
Opening three or four holes tough but fair due to extreme elevation changes, but fun if you play it smart first time through. Peacocks and goats on course very cool. Staff very laid back and friendly but still professional - very nice feel to entire experince.
