Rock Spring Club
Played On 05/31/2023Terrible Computer on New Golf Carts
I have been playing this course for several years., a few times when it was a private club..It’s a classic old 100 plus year old course designed by Seth Raynor.
The Town has done a good job of tuning this course up since it became public 3 or 4 years ago.
THE GPS ON THE NEW CARTS ARE TERRIBLE.!!
They are addressing a problem that doesn’t exist: Keeping carts from going too close to greens. The screen tells you don’t get closer than 30 yards from green but it goes off 80 to 100 yards from green and you have to reverse dozens of yards to get the thing to release.
Rip them out. everybody has range finders
And all you have to do is put white stakes up where cars should exit the fairway which work just fine.
Also, the rates have been jacked up, which is disappointing. A little moderation on that front would be appreciated..
Island Pines Golf Club
Played On 10/30/2020Good value
Good layout in very rundown condition winding through a pleasant neighborhood
A good “breather” course.
Although it is low priced, with a maintenance budget to match, I would make the greens a priority by rolling and cutting them closer. Most of them have plenty of grass on them.
Bandon Dunes
Played On 09/18/2017Ultimate Golf Experience But Bring Carry Bags
Superb golf experience
One complaint: the Resort never told us we had to bring carry bags with stands.
I took our 2 cart bags and emptied them out so they were light. As soon as we got there, they brought out their own carry bags. So at each course we had to empty out our bag into their bag and reverse the process at round's end. Golf balls, gloves, tees, etc, outerwear, wallet, phone, ,etc. Forgot my sunglasses for round one. Very annoying and starter and staff agreed we should have been told on website and when we called and booked.I had 2 carry bags at home we could have used!
That aside, the golf was superb, as were the caddies and staff.
We played Bandon and Pacific. I preferred Bandon ;definitely more playable, less tiricked up and less hilly (but both courses are hilly). I thought Bandon more resembled a Scottish llinks, as epitomized by the Old Course.
Pacific is more visually spectacular and each hole looks different. But there are giant, deep bunkers everywhere you look, frequently in the middle of fairways. I had a couple of my best tee shots dribble into them and then you are 6 feet deep and can only explode out. Like Scotland on steroids
In sum, it's definitely a bucket list type of experience for all lovers of the game.
The Architects Golf Club
Played On 10/24/2015Top Public Golf
Been playing here occasionally for the last 7 or 8 years as it is an hour plus drive.
One of the best public access courses in New Jersey.
In beautiful condition.
Homage to all the golf architects of early 20th Century.
One Complaint: The wedding party from a wedding part literally stood on ninth green for 10 minutes as we approached. Messed up our ninth and tenth holes completely. Guys, this can't be allowed!
Otherwise, Go!Play!
Flanders Valley Golf Club - White/Blue Course
Played On 09/14/2014Great Track that has gone down hill
Great layout but conditions have slid dramatically from where they were 20 to 30 years ago.
Still a good value for Morris County residents but not for non residents especially with cart that you need on the hilly Gold nine. The Blue/White is a nice walk.
No discernible improvement with Billy Casper Mgt takeover from County this spring.
Bowling Green Golf Club
Played On 11/2/2013Greens are sand right now
Have been playing here 35 years. A very fine parkland track. However they lost the greens this summer and heavily aerated and sanded them. They will not recover probably til May. They are mostly sand now altho the aeration holes have filled in.
Have no idea what prior bloggers were looking at in rating the greens as excellent.
Highly recommend this course once greens recover
Royce Brook Golf Club - West Golf Course
Played On 4/7/2012Challenging modern links style golf with lots of fescue
Lots of deep bunkers
Many bunkers need a lot of sand. Others have been filled with super soft deep sand. In a perfect world fairway bunkers are
less deep and firmer sand, and greenside bunkers deeper and softer sand. Here, it is random.
This mars an otherwise classy track. Greens, tees and fairways are excellent
