Golf Club At Terra Lago - South Course
Played On 02/20/2019Overpriced and Very Disappointed
Played on 2/20/19 and booked a tee time about five days prior. While on the phone with the pro shop booking a tee time, I had the website with tee times and rates on my laptop and saw rates were $67 for the time we wanted to play. Got to the pro shop and were charged $89 with no explanation. I looked in the days following and still don't see an $89 rate for the time we played. Their website has no info when you click on the rates tab either, so they must charge whatever they feel on any given day. Once I got back home I sent an email simply asking for an explanation with no answer.
The course was patchy in some spots and there was standing water in other areas due to heavy rains in recent weeks. Pace was fine, but we regretted driving 20 minutes to pay $89 when we could've stayed much closer and paid the same rate to play a much better course. Biggest complaint in reviews for the course were the bunkers, and I'd agree 100 percent. Very hard and not enough sand. A lot of courses in the Palm Springs area, but this is one I will not be going back to.
Indian Wells Golf Resort - Celebrity Course
Played On 02/18/2019Absolutely Stunning
Played the Celebrity Course on our trip celebrating my 40th birthday and it was phenomenal. Despite being wet the previous week or so, the course was in spectacular. Everybody from the valets to the pro staff to Mark the starter, was as friendly as could be. We teed off at 1:30 p.m. and finished our last hole as it was getting pretty dark around 5:45 p.m.
Course was in spectacular shape, tee boxes, rough and fairways were plush and the greens were great--rolled beautifully. Easily one of the top-3 courses I've ever played. I can't say enough about this course and hope to play it again in the near future.
Highlands at Dove Mountain
Played On 01/22/2018Enjoyable course
Was placed in a scramble with a number of members, but wasn't an issue in the slightest. We had a tee time later in the afternoon at a different club and our a.m. tee time at the Highlands was delayed due to a frost delay, but pace of play was great and we were able to finish in three and a half hours. Staff was very accommodating and even gave us a better rate when we checked in.
Course was a little more forgiving than others in the area, so all level of golfers will enjoy, plus a number of tee boxes to choose from. Course was in good condition and greens rolled nicely. A lot more houses on the course than some of the other desert courses, but I'd absolutely play it again.
Thank you mngolfguy23 for the review! We are glad you had a great experience. We try to put customer service at the top of our list. Hope you visit us again.
The Golf Club at Dove Mountain - Saguaro/Tortolita
Played On 01/22/2018Fantastic Course
Very challenging course, but was in perfect condition. A number of tee boxes for all level of players, but beginners will struggle regardless as it's a difficult course with undulating and fast greens. Played a few days ago while southern Arizona was a lot cooler than average, but it was still an enjoyable round. Had a good lunch prior to the round and both food and service was great. The only disappointment was that being from out of state, I was hoping to stop in the pro shop and purchase a few souvenirs after the round, but it was closed at 5:30 p.m. There's also no online store from what I can tell. Between my playing partner and I, they would've made an extra $300 or so.
The Club at Starr Pass - Rattler/Coyote
Played On 01/21/2018Hard to find a better course for the money
Played on a cool Sunday afternoon. There are three nines to choose from, but all three have spectacular views of the desert/canyon area. Challenging course for all levels of golfers, with a number of tee boxes to play from. Course was in fantastic shape and I thought the greens rolled nicely.
A few blind shots and the fairways are tight, so there's not much room to lose a tee shot. Got a few fortunate bounces off of rocks/canyon walls. Fun to see local wildlife like roadrunners, rabbits and a big mule deer standing on one of the tee boxes.
Being from the upper Midwest, it took some adjusting to desert golf, but my playing partner and I both enjoyed the round, would recommend the course and would love to play it again in the future.
where could you play for less money and closer?
