It’s not always easy to get a tee time but worth it when we do. Try it you’ll like it!

Course conditions are excellent. Very fast greens and roll and don’t bounce! One of our favorites in this area.

Since you have many seniors (and perhaps others) who don't have perfect vision, why are the printed numbers (par, yardage, etc) so small? Moreover, can anyone read black numbers on a gold background unless the lighting is perfect.
Valley at Marriott's Desert Springs Resort

The positive of these two courses (Palm and Valley) is their very nice layout, including interesting and challenging holes. You definitely need to know the layout of some of the holes as there are water hazards easily in play but not necessarily visible from your shot positions. The negative primarily has to do with the greens. Two years ago we played the Palm course and found very beat up greens (in March) making putting mostly guess work. We chose not to play these courses in 2015. We decided to play this year as conditions can change (and maintenance) and we figured February would not have the cumulative play the course experiences in March. In agreement with another reviewer, the greens were very slow, and we observed the ball bounces but does not roll on them. (We thought we could see shadows from the blades of grass on the green due to their length!!) We were told the greens grow fast so they will be slower in the afternoon, the so-called “Mother Nature effect”. In addition the green super is not cutting them as short due to the hot weather. Seems reasonable at first consideration but it is not so hot (mid 80’s) that daily watering won't keep them in good shape. We played the Valley course and the person who mowed the greens that day decided a back and forth cut was good enough and did not make the standard perimeter cut to finish off the back and forth cuts. Sloppy! Thus grass on the edge of the greens was 1/2 to 3/4's of an inch long! The bunkers leave something to be desired as they are wet under a light sand covering making shots out of them very difficult. All in all, nice layout but putting, arguably the most important facet of the game, is more luck than skill. I think they can do better but perhaps their 'captive' audience lulls them into complacency. One suggestion is to consider adding "yellow” teeing areas or a combo card where the total yardage is not more 5800 yards. The par threes on the Valley course can be quit long.
Cimarron Golf Club - Boulder Course
Played On 2/17/2014The most difficult feature of this course is its bunker locations.
This is not a particularly difficult course as courses go in this area. Nevertheless most handicappers of 12 or higher will find it challenging. The greens can be difficult to read if you are not aware of the prevailing geography. There was no marshall on the course which contributed to our dissastisfaction with play as we spent close to 5 hours on the course. We (a foursome) played behind a threesome which had no sense of urgency in their pace of play resulting in some groups leaving the course before they completed 18 holes. This has a significant negative effect on course marketing.
