King Kamehameha Golf Club
Played On 10/13/2014Great Views on a Fun Course
The course was fun to play. Being on the side of a volcano, there was plenty of wind throughout the round. It seemed to be either in my face or my back but at least consistent. The bermuda rough was very challenging. The greens were somewhat fast but rolled true and would hold a shot to them. The one disappointment was there was one temporary green that neither GolfNow or the course mentioned. Otherwise a fine day. Every hole had great vistas.
King Kamehameha Golf Club
Played On 10/13/2014Great Views and Course
The course is place on the side of a volcano. The wind is in a constant direction and affects all the holes. The course has some water challenges and you will have to place your shots with some thought. The rough can be punishing and the ball will sink down. The greens have subtle breaks in them that are not always apparent. Don't forget to look at the views, they are spectacular!
The only disappointment was one temporary green which was not mentioned either on GolfNow or at the club house. Otherwise, it was fun to play.
Maui Nui Golf Club
Played On 10/12/2014Great Views on a Very Good Course
The course was in very good condition. I enjoyed this round more than when the course was Silversword or Elleair. There are plenty of challenges, including the wind. The price is very reasonable (less expensive than the Waiehu muni course) and plenty of fun. The greens were a little slow but rolled very true.
My wife and I went another evening to Kono's on the Green for drinks and dinner. This was outstanding. We sat on the lanai and enjoyed the sunset. Katya sang and played the keyboard. An excellent evening.
Maui Nui Golf Club
Played On 10/12/2014Great fun playing Maui Nui
The course was in fine shape. The greens were a little slow but rolled true. There are plenty of challenges along the way including the wind. I thoroughly enjoyed playing Maui Nui (more than when it was Silversword and Ellaire).
My wife and I went to the restaurant another evening for coctails and dinner on the patio. Katya played the keyboard, the sunset was great, and the food was very good. We thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
Sunnyvale Municipal Golf Course
Played On 10/02/2014A Good Muni Track
Sunnyvale Golf Course is a good muni track. It is flat but there are plenty of bunkers, contouring around the greens and plenty of water to keep you on your toes. Unfortunately, the greens had been recently plugged and sanded so they were very, very slow and bumpy. There are some rough and bare spots on the sides of the fairways. But the course is well layed out to make it interesting to play. And, if you are lucky, you will be entertained by some of the planes landing at nearby Moffett Field.
Alister MacKenzie at Haggin Oaks Golf Course
Played On 09/11/2014A Very Good Muni Course
The Alister MacKenzie course at the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex was a very enjoyable round. There are plenty of challenges on the course but not over the top. The greens were fast but receptive.
We played in very hot weather (95-100 degrees) but there is plenty of water on the course to drink. And, at one hole there was a member of the staff with a ice chest full of ice cold, wet towels to cool your head. This felt absolutely GREAT. We each had great tee shots after the cool down.
There are two courses at the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex, a restaurant, golf instruction, and a super store for buying everything golf.
All the staff we encountered were very friendly and added to our enjoyment.
The Ridge Golf Course & Events Center
Played On 09/07/2014Enjoy the Round
The Ridge is a very good golf course with plenty of challenges. The fairways are tests of accuracy and planning with hazards on the sides and periodically crossing them. The greens are very fast and heavily contoured. It takes time to get used to these greens. It was hot but there was plenty of water available to drink. Don't forget to enjoy the scenery around you.
Crystal Springs Golf Course
Played On 08/28/2014No Level Lies Here But Great Views
Crystal Springs GC is a very hilly course with few level lies. The fairways are fairly hard and fast with many sloping side to side. The ball tends to roll very far (good and bad) on the fairways. The greens are in good shape and reasonably fast. The only draw back was the slow play time (5 hours). However, there are plenty of beautiful vistas to see while you wait.
Santa Clara Golf & Tennis Club
Played On 08/05/2014Plan Your Drives Carefully
You need to plan your drives carefully on this course. There are several blind shots. I found I did not need a driver the entire round. A 3-metal worked fine. Unfortunately there are no hole diagrams on the scorecard or at each tee. However, you can purchase a yardage guide in the pro shop.
We enjoyed our round at the Santa Clara Golf Course. The fairways did have some bare spots on them. The greens were fast and in good shape. The bunkers were in good shape with plenty of sand.
There is plenty of drinking water on the course good for those hot Santa Clara summers.
Boulder Creek Golf & Country Club
Played On 07/30/2014Watch Out for the Redwood Trees
Boulder Creek Golf Course is not long but it can be quirky and more difficult than the scorecard might indicate.. Many of the fairways are narrow with tall redwood trees lining them. The greens were in good shape. But, the weather was excellent and we had a good time playing. The front and back nines are very different.
Blue Rock Springs Golf Course - East
Played On 07/24/2014Don't Expect a Level Lie
This is a review of the East Course.
The course is in fine shape. There are some dry spots in the fairways but that is to be expected these days. The greens are in great shape and roll true. There are plenty of elevation changes throughout the course to make golf interesting. There are a few forced carries but nothing extreme. And there are some blind shots to greens. All made for a great day of golf.
Coyote Creek Golf Club - The Valley Course
Played On 07/17/2014A Great Course to Play
The Valley course was in excellent condition and the weather was great. We had a great time playing the course (first time for all of us). There is water on the course, mainly creeks, crossing the fairways making some holes great risk/reward challenges. The greens are smooth, fast, firm, and well undulated. The fairways were firm giving plenty of roll. Bunkers allways seemed to be between me and the pin. So place your shots well.
The sand in the bunkers was hard and shallow making bunker shots a challenge to get used to.
Overall, we had a great time and will play the course again.
Tracy Golf & Country Club
Played On 04/10/2014Fast Greens and Strategic Water
The day we played Tracy G&CC, the weather was warm and there was a light breeze. There are plenty of ponds around the course to add a challenge. Two of the par 3 are long and have devilish ponds in front of the greens. The greens were very fast and it took a few holes to get used to them. The greens were in very good condition.
As others have noted, there is a highway cutting the course into two and associated highway noise. However, this soon becomes just background noise and not a bother.
Work was being done on holes #15 and especially #16. Sixteen was shortened to a 109 yard hole.
The fairways were is decent shape and you would get plenty of roll.
The course was not crowded so we could play at our own pace (3.25 hours).
The only drawback was they don’t have logo balls for sale. We like to collect logo balls from all the courses we play.
There is a driving range there with well-worn mats.
We had a great day and enjoyed the course.
Eighteen Hole at Green Tree Golf Club
Played On 03/12/2014Watch out for the wind and water
The course was in good shape. The greens were very slow, however. There is not a lot of break in the greens. What you see is what you get. It was windy the day I played and that surely added to the challanges of this course (at least one club). The couse has old-fashioned small greens. There is plenty of water on the course for the wind to blow your ball into. The course is fairly flat and very walkable.
For the $20 GolfNow Hot Deal which included a cart and a small bucket of range balls, this is a great deal. A challanging course without being impossible.
Valley of the Moon Golf Club
Played On 02/20/2014Small, heavily undulating greens
Oakmont West is a nice layout. There are some creeks located in common landing zones so you have to give that some thought. The greens are small, fast, and heavily undulating. Unfortunately, the greens were not smooth making fast puts difficult to manage. There were a few spots in the fairways that were very wet. Overall, the fairways were in good shape. The rough is kept high (4-6").
The weather was great (70 degrees F) and the course is located with mountains surrounding it. As is often common, there are houses lining most of the fairways.
Skywest Golf Course
Played On 9/19/2013Flat course with lots of trees.
The greens had been punched and sanded within the last 2 weeks. The grass was long and the greens were very slow. The fairways show areas that need work. Overall, though, the course is fun to play. The handicap ranges for the various tees are on the score card and that was very helpful to decide what tees to use.
Rooster Run Golf Club
Played On 8/21/2013Very enjoyable course
Rooster Run is very enjoyable. Hitting into the rough is not always punishing but can leave you with some challenging shots. Not a realy long course, so I was left with a lot of irons onto the greens. The18th (former 9th) is very challenging. The placement of our second shot is very important.
The $39 deal with a cart on GolfNow made is very affordable.
Lone Tree Golf Course
Played On 6/20/2013Fun course to play.
Lone Tree GC was fun to play. The hilly terrain made for a fun day. The wind can move your ball around, though. The pace of play was very good the entire round. The greens were a little long and, hence, very slow. I assume this is just temporary.
Bennett Valley Golf Course
Played On 6/14/2013Great course to play but slow!
The course is in great shape and well maintained both fairways and greens. The course is challenging but not punitive. The fairways on the front nine are narrow but the back nine opens up. The course is well worth playing and fun. However, on a Friday it took well over 5 hours to play! This is way too slow.
Napa Golf Course at Kennedy Park
Played On 6/7/2013Plenty of water and challenges
Napa GC is kept is very good shape. The greens were reasonably fast and rolled true. The fairways are in good shape as well. There is plenty of water on almost every hole and it comes into play quite often. You need to think your way around the course. There are some large oak trees that come into play as well (especially on #10). The bunkers, however, are lacking in sand. What is in the bunkers is very hard. They need to add sand to the bunkers.
Overtall, the course was fun a challenging. It was hot the day we played but there was a gentle breeze to ease the heat.
