Wish It Were Closer

Eagle Chase is a well-maintained course and a fair test of golf, with many challenging tee shots, elevation changes, water hazards, and undulating greens. But for the fact that it is so far from civilization and pervaded by the sweet smell of manure from neighboring farms and fields (in mid-April, if not at other times), it would be on my regular rotation of courses to play. Also, it would have been nice if they posted an alert that the greens were being top-dressed, which made the greens particularly slow. As it is now, I am happy to play the course about one time per year.

Nothing Not To Love at Olde Sycamore

Took advantage of a two day break in the bad weather. The course was still a bit wet from weeks of rain and was cart path only, but it was definitely playable. Not surprisingly, the forecast for intermittent showers kept all but the hard core golfers away and, when the heavens failed to open, I was able to play a 3 hour round as a result. The greens are in great condition and, when the weather improves, it will again be one of the best tracks in the Charlotte area. I will be coming back again and again.

Monroe CC and oldie but goodie

The Monroe CC is a throw back to traditional courses with heavily tree-lined fairways, terrain changes, and slick undulating greens. It is a fair test of skill: rewarding good shot making while penalizing bad shots. The fairways and greens generally are in very good shape, particularly for a course open to the public. Although the course is a good 30 minutes southeast of Charlotte, it is worth the trip and I have made it several times and plan to make more.
