Playing long for me....

This is a beautiful, classic tree-lined course. Not tricked up, just laid into some beautiful rolling terrain. Yardage as played was just under 6,200 but seemed to play much longer. There are plenty of uphill tee and approach shots, that were very challenging. Seemed like I was hitting 165-175 approaches into every green. The rough was penal, so if you hit it there, it was not going to roll very far. Fairways were very nice, and greens were nicely contoured and rolled at a nice pace. I think next time moving up on the tee box would make it a more enjoyable round, I look forward to playing there again,

Fantastic Greens....

Terrific course. Beautiful rolling land, and tree-lined fairways. Some of the holes give some room, and others make you feel like you are trying to hit it down a bus aisle. The course plays longer than the yardage with a plenty of uphill shots....and all of the greens are slightly elevated making club selection critical. But the greens are amazing. Lots of undulations (wonderful), and perfectly smooth. Made putting challenging, but loads of fun. Cannot wait to go back

Roller Coaster

Prepare for plenty of "ups and downs" at Westport. The course is on very rolling land, and there are few holes that are relatively flat. That made for a lot of uphill approach shots into greens, which made pulling the right club a real challenge. Considering that it had rained heavily for the four straight days prior to my round, the course had drained very well and was surprisingly dry. The fairways have just started to come in, and with a few weeks of hot weather they will be great. Greens would hold a well-struck shot and were very, very smooth. Great value for the money.

Beautiful layout

Being from NC , playing this course made me think of the Sandhills / Pinehurst area of NC. The course meanders through some beautiful pine forest, and while essentially flat, does manage a few interesting elevation changes. The course seems to fit perfectly in with the terrain. One thing that the maintenance crew has done here is to remove a tremendous amount of undergrowth in the forest. This makes the course much more playable should you miss the fairway, and improves pace of play. The course has three nines that all play around a lake which makes for some very beautiful and challenging course.....including a beautiful island green Par 3. Don't miss if you are in Augusta.

Beautiful Classic layout

This is a beautiful course in an upscale community. The layout itself is a classic layout with lots of elevation changes and challenging, but not impossible green complexes. The greens are almost completely recovered from spring aeration and putted at a good speed and very true for the most part. THere is a nice variety of holes in terms of distance, uphill/downhill, etc. There are lots of uphill/downhill lies in the fairway that made for some difficult approach shots

Excellent layout

Rocky River is one of the best public course layouts in the Charlotte area, and one of the best values. The course is located between Concord Mills Mall and Charlotte Motor Speedway in a very congested area, but the great thing is that the course is isolated from all the traffic. Once on the course it reminds you of a course in the Sandhills area with a gently rolling layout and plenty of waste areas. It is a great mix of short and long holes, some of which will give you a good birdie chance and a few that will break your back. It has a particularly nice set of Par 5's that feature some of the most rolling greens on the course. The course is in very good shape right now, and will only get better as the weather warms and the fairways fill out.

Almost perfect.....

The Reserve Club is a private club, that only allows public play during Masters week. Although expensive (as all golf is during Masters week), you could not get a much better experience. The course itself was in almost perfect condition for early April, with great greens that were very fast and very true. The layout has great changes in elevation, making club selection very challenging at times. The fairways were a little soft due to some rain, and that, in addition to the elevation changes made the course play longer than the yardage. One thing I particularly liked was the great Par 3,s. All were different with a couple relatively short one's that were beautiful, but challenging. Hole #3 was a beautiful hole playing over 180 yards downhill to a beautiful lake. As a private club the service and amenities were outstanding. I felt our group receive the same great service that any member would have received. Great course, great experience.

Value...

For $28 Senior rate at 2PM, cannot complain about much. Conditions.....Fairways were very spotty but that is normal for this time of year as the Bermuda is just starting to come out. The greens were areated about mid-March so many were pretty bumpy. It looked like they were starting to come out well. The layout is definitely different. Lots of blind tee shots, so make sure you know where the fairway is going before you swing. The back in particularly interesting with a very wide variety of holes with lots of elevation changes.

Great layout, great value...

This is one of my favorite courses in the Upstate area. At 1PM on a beautiful I only paid $29 as a Senior. This time of year the fairways are sparse, but the greens are as great as they always are. This course has some fairly easy holes that give you a breather, but a number of very difficult, tricky holes that require good shots and good thinking. As with several other Gary Player designs he likes lots of subtle contours around the greens and in the fairways.....some of which help the player and some of which can be difficult to navigate around the green.

Outstanding layout

Piper Glen is a great layout that at one time hosted PGA Senior Tour events. Playing from the white tees, makes it very playable especially with no rough this time of year. The course has several terrific holes including a great 16th, 17th and 18th hole finish......holes that are challenging, but that also present the chance to make a couple birdies at the end of the round. The best part of the course is the greens. Even this time of year they are very smooth and firm. The greens have lots of undulation which can make them difficult, but at the same time is something I enjoy.....even though I am not a very good putter. Condition wise, the fairways are very sparse which is to be expected this time of year, and it is very wet. That would be my only complaint. It seems the areas around the greens is particularly soggy, making short shots around the green a little tricky. Overall though, a fun course.

Good value

This was the 3rd time on this track. It was a pretty cool and windy day but with the sun out is was bearable. This course is a pretty good layout and even though the fairways were dormant, and very wet in spots, the course played well. The greens were in good shape and rolled well for the time of year. I have never played this course "in-season", but I would bet when things warm up conditions are pretty good. Excellent value !!

Great Greens !!!

This is a fun track !!! It is not particularly long, but there are some very challenging , tricky holes. The great thing about this course is the greens. Think pool tables !! They have recently been rebuilt , and they are very smooth, and very fast. They were great to play on.
