East Kilbride Golf Club
Played On 08/08/2017Pleasantly challenging course
I was a singleton and was introduced to a group of golfers who play regularly together & played my round with 2 of them.
The course is quite undulating with some blind shots. Playing with locals was very useful as a result. I found the greens quite challenging, with some quite subtle borrows.
Overall, the course was in good shape and with the visit.
The company was very good and had some nice food post round.

Played the course in mid March, with the course in typical early season conditions - winter rules in play, greens being worked on etc. The course is sited on a rocket steep hill above the surrounding area and you can see miles on a clear day.
It is essential, if you are unfamiliar with the course layout, to play with a member I was a lone golfer and after a wait, was paired with a local. The layout is a little confusing at times, with a few cross-over type holes. It would be quite easy to hit a tee shot up the wrong fairway in a few places!!
The first hole is fantastic - about as daunting a 1st tee shot that I've come across - 230 yds to reach the plateau across a valley. It isa ribbon fairway lined with gorse & whins, with a long iron 2nd to a distant green. The locals reckon a good start to the round is bogey, par, bogey - the holes 1 & 3 are SI 1 & 3, so it is a very tough start. The course opens out to a more parkland type through the midsection before returning to narrower holes towards the end. I can easily see how easy it is to lose quite a few balls.
Very good value for money - the the view from the high points of the surrounding area are worth the fee & then there's the golf.....love to play it again if I return to the area.

Friendly welcome for a lone golfer. Was introduced to a couple of members who guided me around the course. Course has some quite severe slopes in places and was a little soggy after a period of rain, causing 2 short par 3's to be out of use. Most par 4's are less than 400 yds from visitors tees, so premium on accuracy into green from non-flat lies, either across slope or up & down slope. Some greens have a definite "do not miss" side due to drop offs.
No food on a Monday which was a little disappointing.
Some impressive trophies won by the 2005 club champion.
Well worth the visit
