Excellent golf course..

Incredible design. It's a challenging course but it's fair. There is very little hidden danger. The objective is always clear. There is quite a bit of water and sand, including an island green, and a green surrounded entirely by a waste bunker. There aren't a lot of wooded areas, making it a great choice in the fall when other courses are covered in leaves. The openness also means you will almost always be exposed to the wind, making it a big factor. The large, undulating greens are in excellent condition, and if you don't bring a solid short game to this course, you may have a rough day. Probably my favorite public layout. It's a must play

Rough Shape

This course is way overpriced. It's a great layout that I really enjoy but the conditions are bad. The greens are awful. Why can't courses figure out when to aerate? The greens never healed from last year. Just like Little Mountain, Hanlin's other course, this place is in terrible shape. Charging $50 for a course in this condition is pretentious and unethical. I'll go to a course that actually takes pride in their property next time.

What's going on at Tangle?

I've never seen this course in such disrepair. First and foremost, they have major issues with drainage, and they need to spend a lot of time and money on that, or this course is done, especially coupled with non existent upkeep. Not a single green or tee was blown off or cut. I've never seen a shaggier, slower green in my life. Every other course in my area is working to get their course into shape, while Tanglewood is doing absolutely nothing. Not a single person cutting grass or with a blower. Nobody planting the dozens of trees still out of the ground. I've never seen this course like this. I asked management if the greens keeper was on vacation, and he told me all of their equipment is in the shop. Disgraceful. This layout is nice, but whoever is running this place now is lazy, or not willing to pay people to clean and cut the course. I would be embarrassed if I owned this place.

Solid Course

This layout is on the easier side, but it's not boring. It's a short course at 6250 from the tips, which makes it very scorable. Great course for a fun and relaxing round.

A mixed bag

I enjoyed the layout here. I don't think easy is the word, but it's not difficult either. We played from the tips. It has some short, easy holes, and some pretty lengthy ones as well. A 460 yd par 4, a 570 par 5, and a few pretty long par 3s make this course stronger than the 300 yd par 4 opening hole might seem to suggest. The greens were quite nice and the overall condition was good. The two starters were very pleasant and helpful. The ranger was a total dunce. He instructed our twosome to push the tanktop and jean shorts fivesome in front of us harder, even though we were already waiting for almost every shot. The fivesome got ahead of us by a stroke when I was searching for my ball in the woods, and the starter came back to scold us a few minutes later. We were waiting again on the next teebox. Completely oblivious and overzealous jerk. The round took almost 5 hours, and it was mainly because of a bad ranger, and whoever decided a fivesome of clowns would be a good idea. If time is a factor for you, this course might be better avoided on the weekends.

Excellent course

One of my favorite layouts in the area. Great value too. You can play on a weekend afternoon for about $25 for 18 and a cart. Beautiful golf holes and a good challenge lead to a great day of golf. Greens are beautiful, very undulated, and fast. Quite difficult to hole a putt from outside of 10 feet. The course has some length as well if played from the tips. They aerated the greens the on 3/7/2016, with the smaller holed aerator and sanded the greens. Even with the holes, the greens are still fast and true.
They have a large driving range as well.

Great Track

This is a fun and challenging course. Been a couple years, I forgot how good a layout this is. Every hole is engaging and for the most part, challenging. Not overly difficult or easy. This course can play 7200 from the tips if you're a good player. Early spring greens were slow but true, showing potential for a lot more speed once cut. Great reasonable go-to course.

Beautiful Course

This is a great old course that is in great condition this spring. Greens roll well, and overall the turf is beautiful pretty much everywhere. I have 2 complaints about this course. One, there are no stakes up yet, so finding yardage on a cart path only day is difficult. Secondly, they have a lot of old trees, some of which need to be taken care of a little better. More often than not on this course, you will be contending with the trees.
The trees natch the style of the course, however, as it places an emphasis on shot making. Many holes with doglegs, and plenty of places to lose your ball, will certainly keep you thinking all day long, and this course can really beat you down if you're not striking the ball well, or are making bad decisions.
The greens on this course are the smallest I have ever seen, and nearly each green is as such. Lots of break, and pretty fast in the summer.
This course is really growing on me. If you're up for a challenge, you're in for a treat on this awesome Donald Ross design.

Excellent track

I found a hot deal on golfnow, and didn't really know what to expect. What a treat this course is! We played this course in some of the toughest conditions. It was about 35 degrees with wind 20 to 25 mph, and it was a challenge.
The front is links style with very few trees. The back is quite a bit different with more slope, and more trees. I find this contrast to be another strength of the course. Each hole has great character, and specific strategy. I got the feeling that a great deal of thought went into presenting a course with plenty of challenge, and equal fairness.
This is absolutely a challenging course, but never beats you down too much. I could go on and on, but I'll finish by mentioning the unorthodox, many times, multi level greens. There is hardly a straight putt out there, but again, as a player, you feel as though you're in on the joke, and not the victim.

Hidden gem

This was a pleasant surprise. This course is cut out of a rural Amish community. It has a very laid back atmosphere, complete with horse and carriage passing through certain holes. It almost feels more like a state park than a golf course. They never seem to be too crowded, and they are always friendly and accommodating.
The layout is quite a good one. A great mix of challenging holes, and scoring opportunities. Definitely not boring, and some of the holes are a real challenge. A 640 yard par 5 comes to mind, as well as a couple long par 3s.
Greens are in great shape, and have lots of big sweeping breaks.
The course is a little rough in some spots. The fairways are not pristine in some parts, and the course has minimal markings that tell you where the next hole is, which can be a bit confusing. Obviously minor issues that can be overlooked.
Grandview is an appropriate name as well. This course features some beautiful vistas and scenery. Check it out!

Nice day on the course.

Played on a really hot day,but there are plenty of wooded areas to catch some shade, so the heat was not an issue at all.
Fairly simple layout with a few exceptions. Not overly difficult, or easy.
Greens were immaculate. Each green has a very subtle tilt to it, ensuring that almost every putt will break a little bit, but are still very fair and enjoyable.
Excellent course for the money.

Great little gem

Overall, a very solid course. No bells or whistles, just a nice classic track. Two things make me take the trip 40 minutes away. One is the deals. I played here for $20 on a Friday afternoon, but that was through golfnow.com. Madison CC also has an app with free GPS and the ability to book times at a discount. And the second thing is the greens. Superintendent Todd Bishop does an outstanding job. These are BY FAR the most consistent greens I've seen all year! And I've played some of the nicer courses around. They are not the fastest, although they are very quick, but they are the most beautiful. No ball marks or bare spots anywhere to be seen. Absolutely pristine surfaces. Also thanks to Peter Lee, the pro there, who is a really nice and helpful guy.

Good progress

I used to play this course a lot about 10 years ago when the course quality dropped dramatically, and I haven't been back until recently. Now that this course is under new management, this old gem is on its way back to its former glory. This course has 2 eighteens. This is a review for the blue course which features a championship caliber layout. It held an LPGA event in the 70's I believe. Its a pretty straightforward layout that allows you to bang the driver all day, with its length being its main defense. Multiple par 4's over 450 yards from the whites can be daunting, but the course also has enough holes where you can score. A good mix of difficulties keeps it fun. The course's main attraction is the greens though. Super fast, consistent greens are a real treat here. This course isn't done improving, and it isn't perfect, but the progress is very welcome.

Not bad

I played this course for really cheap this weekend. Most of the time they want $40 to play, but the course is not worth that rate. I would typically want to pay less than $30 here. They are under new management for the past couple years, and the course looks pretty good. The greens are excellent, but the tee boxes require some attention. The layout is pretty interesting with some HUGE elevation changes from 9 and 18 tee. I don't like some of the holes though, that give you a 250 yard par 4 with a 90 degree dogleg, and some of the holes are too close together.

Nice Course

I like playing here, but for me its not very memorable. There are a few standout holes, but a few are kind of boring. Overall fairly challenging, especially the fast, undulating greens. If you can play this course for under $40 go for it, but sometimes their prices are too high.

Awesome track!

This place is a step above average courses. The layout is unique as well. A links style course with big, lightning fast, undulating greens. Plenty of water definitely keeps you thinking throughout the day. Be prepared to lose some golf balls if you're not striking it well. An island green, and a green entirely surrounded by sand, will be two of the memorable holes, among many others. Great clubhouse/restaurant also tie together the experience.
