Cypress Lake Country Club
Played On 07/12/2018Nice Course
Nice course, nice conditions, friendly & helpful staff.
When I played the course conditions were quite good. The greens were super hard though, which made play tough. Almost all the greens are raised greens and surrounded by bunkers, so if you missed an approach shot an up & down was not really in the cards. This condition stunk because if you hit to the green a ball often rolled over a green and into back bunkers. Lots of tee boxes to change up play. Tee shots had a number of holes where you really need to hit targets & shape a ball, mixing that experience. Fairways were in great condition and intermediate rough was cut low enough that you never encountered a bad lie.
River/Lakes Course at Pelican Sound Golf & River Club
Played On 07/04/2018Always a Good Round
Favorite parts of this course is that it always seems to be in great condition. There are three sets of 9 holes to mix up your 18 hole course from day to day. Lots of tee spots to choose from to mix up how you use the bag. The River and Lakes are my favorite to play. The Sound side has some challenging holes but a couple that are sort of forgettable.
The course is doing a large project to their clubhouse. Getting in may seem complicated, but the staff is great and super helpful getting you on the course easily. Dung the peak season rounds can take a while when there are club tournaments. Pace of play is usually quite good.
Twelve Stones Golf Club
Played On 05/11/2017Good Value Lot's Of Potential
The course, as has been mentioned, has come a long way from a few years ago when it was essentially left abandoned. Clubhouse has a great restaurant for before or after a round. Getting something in between nine holes can be a tad tricky for a first time (getting off the course and into the clubhouse pro-shop) but it is manageable and relatively quick. Not the greatest of options in the pro-shop. As they continue to build would like to see more purchase item or turn that space into a more defined casual drinking/eating space. Right now it's just the basics & quite minimal. The course greens are is nice shape, fairways are consistent through most of the course, tee boxes are also relatively consistent throughout. It is a hilly course so I know this can be a tricky undertaking. Bunkers seem to be the last remaining item of reconstruction. Many could use some work, though the ones that you'd expect get the most play have improved. This course is a tricky layout with a lot of shots hitting off hills and slopes that can kick your ball around. And many of those bounces can be difficult to see (especially if you go to the back tees). Would love to see a yardage book or signs that offer play tips for those playing their first few rounds. Also not sure if they've updated yardage from its original design, some holes feel longer & some shorter that's the scorecard. I've lost a few too many balls off of good shots because it kicked down a hill into somewhere or skipped over a green and made for a handful of annoying holes. All said, it's a good challenge, fair for the most part and a super value for the golfer.
