Mountain Falls Golf Course
Played On 10/01/2016One of my favorites
As an out-of-towner, I enjoy meeting new players, and today's round found me grouped up with 3 others who made my day very enjoyable. All of us had played Mountain Falls previously, if only a few times, and we all agreed that the course conditions, scenic beauty and value made the drive from Las Vegas well worth the time. An outstanding staff - from the person who brought a cart to my car, to the pro shop attendant, to the gentleman who met me at the end of the round to take care of the cart (who expressed an interest in how I played and thanked me for visiting), the exceptional staff makes this a hands-down winner. I get it that the distance from LV can be inconvenient, but on a day like today where time was not an issue for me, any toss-up decisions would definitely fall in favor of Mountain Falls.
They have big-screen GPS monitors that offer not only distance indicators, but also helpful tips (like any of us can really control what side of the fairway we hit!!). My only difficulties came when I failed to read the tips (it really did say "dog-leg right, even though I executed the perfect shot for a left turn). There are a couple of holes where you have to decide if you can carry the sand/water or take the lay-up shot - it's fun if you make it, and still a laugh if you don't (no money riding on this game).
Highly recommended!
Fred Arbanas Golf Course - Championship
Played On 05/25/2016Awesome experience
First time playing this course - it's in great shape. A bit challenging for a first timer, especially the large undulating greens, but we didn't find anything specifically unfair.
We chose to play from the white tees (about 6300 yards), probably should have played up one set (5900 yards) for our first time, considering handicap level. However, my ego said the white tees were appropriate, and probably would be just fine in a subsequent round.
For a public course, it's a great experience. We are thinking of putting a golf trip together - a few days touring various parts of Missouri - this would be a great part of that tour.
The starter is a perfect fit for his job!
International Club of Myrtle Beach
Played On 05/11/2016Great experience
Very enjoyable experience overall. Several holes where water comes into play, and several greens closely guarded by bunkers, and of course the tree-lined fairways offered challenges when the ball doesn't go where intended, but I enjoyed my round and would definitely play here again on another visit.
Silverhorn Golf Club
Played On 02/06/2016Give this course a try
Previous reviews of this course were less than stellar, but to me they are not correct. Yes, they apparently built new Bermuda greens last summer, and the greens aren't perfect yet. And yes, there are some muddy spots, mostly near the greens (apparently due to watering the new greens).
I played in early February of 2016, got an exceptionally low rate, so everything was brown and thin. However, except for a few times when my ball was on very bare ground, I played the ball down, ended up shooting 81 on a par 71 course (I'm about a 12 handicap). Not bad for first time playing this course, not playing for over 2 months due to winter weather. I had no birdies (which are mostly luck in my game), so my score was about as pure as I could shoot.
I am definitely willing to play Silverhorn again, anxious to see how it looks in "normal" season.
My only possible negative is the yardage - a couple of holes seemed to play quite a bit shorter than the scorecard (or somehow I bombed my drives 40 or 50 yards farther than normal!). No complaints overall, I had a very enjoyable round with some locals (I'm an out-of-towner), and a good time was had by all.
I may not have read this part right - but it looks like they have a season pass for $30/month including unlimited golf & cart fees, use of the range and even some type of lessons. Locals in OKC would have a hard time beating that package. Even visitors - do the math - play it twice a month and you have an unbeatable deal.
Rhodes Ranch Country Club
Played On 10/26/2014Deceptively challenging
Overall this was a good experience, especially for a first-timer. The course was lush and green, but there was a lot of unrepaired damage as in divots and ball marks. Staff friendliness was beyond excellent. Nice bonus with the price of the round including range balls and a couple of beverages. We chose the blue tees because the slope/rating of 116/70.8 seemed to indicate a relatively easy course of around 6400 yards. I have played courses with slope of 125-130 that were easier than this one, so not sure where the disconnect lies. Par 3s were often over 170 yards, some par 4s over 400 and some par 5s over 500. I carry about a 12 handicap, and was able to stay away from trouble most of the time, but there were lots of holes requiring considerable length and accuracy, something I wouldn't have expected from a 116 slope. I wasn't unhappy with my 86, could have easily been a lot worse without consistenly good, long drives (250+), decent putting and a couple of sand saves. Again, this was a good experience for me, but not sure I agree with the 116.
Chimera Golf Club
Played On 10/19/2014Great views, good conditions
Some challenging holes, some fairways channelled to the center, some very long holes. Overall, fairways were relatively lush (overseeding has mostly succeeded, lots of green grass, lots of scenic beauty).
Greens were a bit slow, but certainly reasonable from a speed standpoint.
Thanks for leaving a comment and review. We would love the opportunity to earn 5 stars moving forward. Hope to see you again soon.

Black Mountain Golf & Country Club - Founders/Desert Course
Played On 09/20/2014Walked off after 9 holes
Staff admitted that they had overbooked tee times. That resulted in a shortage of carts, carts that ran out of battery juice (probably due to insufficient time re-charging), delayed start time, slow play, etc. I showed up as a single, was teamed up with two other players. The other two left after 6 holes. I survived 9 holes, realized that the pace of play was not going to improve (5 to 10 minutes wait on every hole), was not going to be able to finish due to onset of darkness (I admit that my booking was tight, leaving barely more than 4 hours to finish). All in all, the 9-hole round was not any fun, even though my companions were great.
Siena Golf Course
Played On 08/30/2014Would play again
Hot August weather has many Vegas courses shut down, so Siena is to be congratulated for keeping the course in reasonable condition. Yes there are bare spots, very rough spots in the fairways, but the greens were good. Overall, a very enjoyable round.
Golf Summerlin - Highland Falls Course
Played On 06/15/2014Scenic beauty is the dominant feature
June/2014 - we had to deal with 20+ mph winds and recently-aerated greens. Temp was in the mid-90s, a treat for this time of year in Vegas.
Even with these conditions, I scored right around normal (12 handicap). One reason - many of the fairways are funneled to the center, and landing zones are mostly generous. Even from the tips (6500 yds), this course is manageable, and higher handicaps should be comfortable moving forward one tee box.
Los Prados Golf Course
Played On 06/14/2014Great course for the money
Greens were a bit bumpy, but overall a very pleasant experience.
Golf Summerlin - Palm Valley Course
Played On 09/22/2013Nice course, enjoyed my round
In Sept/13 the course was recovering from overseeding and aeration in both the fairways and greens. That made the fairways quite thin, and the greens were a bit bumpy from the aeration holes. In addition, play was cart path only. However, all of these conditions were known in advance, so it would be hard to complain. Play was just a bit slow, and this appeared to be because there were just two players in my group.
Fairfax Golf Club
Played On 03/16/2013Enjoyable round
Lots of construction going on, so 2 or 3 holes were using temporary tee boxes - not a big deal. It's March, and the fairways were still brown and thin - but overall this was a good golf experience.
Las Vegas National Golf Course
Played On 12/22/2012A bit pricy for winter conditions
Smart golf is the key to scoring well. Smaller clubs on short par 4 holes and an extra club to clear the many greenside bunkers would help the average player. I played "winter rules" because of the many bare spots on the course, something I don't normally do. Many of the fairways are tight because of lakes and trees, but smart course management can keep you out of major trouble most of the time.
Wolf Hollow Golf Club
Played On 09/27/2012Great variety on holes
Nice course. Even with "cart path only" conditions, walking across the fairways was not exhausting.
Thank you for your feedback! We are happy you enjoyed your experience. Come back and play again soon!
