Alsatian Golf Club
Played On 12/11/2016Nice Course at a Reasonable Price
A fun course to play. Course was not crowded, and pace of play was excellent. I've never been seriously delayed on this course. Grass was good for December. Green were overall in very good shape. Fairways were a little long, but wet weather has prevented mowing. Friendly and helpful staff, nice grill to have lunch. Good practice facilities. Bunkers are under repair, but you can tell they are working on them. I always enjoy this course.
Alamo Golf Club
Played On 10/22/2016Surprisingly Bad
I was amazed at the poor condition of this course. Much of the fairways were hardpan or gravel and browned out. It looks like they are never watered--I didn't even see sprinkler heads. Greens were inconsistent and rough. Holes were poorly laid out, with no way to tell in which direction the green lay on several holes. Add to this the two drunk grandmothers who were excruciatingly slow we were behind and the six-some of drunk frat boys right behind us, and you get a miserable day. The holes are shoe-horned together and people are constantly in your fairway playing their bad shots. Luckily most of the golfers I saw were very bad, so you didn't have to worry about getting hit by someone's errant but long shot. Not a place for a serious round of golf. Even for the $20 I paid, it was overpriced. I have played extensively in West Texas and this course reminded me of some of the worst courses there. I wouldn't go back if it were free. The driving range, however, is very nice and the balls are reasonably priced. Not a bad place to practice, just don't play.

Played On 11/15/2015Nice Course, Lots of Trees
Grass was in great shape, especially for November. Greens were good also. Course has almost no rough. Some of the fairways were quite tight due to overhanging, large oak trees. Very little sand or water. A nice place to play, and a good value for the money.
Sammy Baugh Golf Course at Western Texas College
Played On 05/26/2014Nice Course, No Rules
This is a very nice course, well maintained. Greens are small but they keep them in great condition. Good practice facilities, with a convenient driving range and a practice green with sand. The course is built around a small lake and there is the danger of getting your ball wet on several holes, and some of the greens are well bunkered. There are also several carries over some creeks that lead into the lake. All in all, a nice change from a lot of the flat and featureless courses you see in West Texas. The prices are decent as well, especially through Golf 18.
Played the course today and got behind a group of six. Spent an hour mostly waiting to get through the first two holes, then picked up my ball and went home. I have at times seen groups of up to seven on this course. The course is generally uncrowded, but on weekends allowing large groups like this totally wrecks the pace of play. After contemplating taking eight or nine hours to play 18 holes, I decided to leave. I was finding myself more frustrated than having fun.
