Country Club of Gwinnett
Played On 01/11/2019Course in good shape for as wet as it has been
The high today was about 52 - so I scheduled a noon tee time to try to stay comfortable. It was actually nice in the sun, only really cool in the shady areas. The fairways are, of course, brown, but have a good amount of grass on them still and the greens were soft and held the ball well. I had 3 birdies in a row on 13, 14, and 15 and was pleased with the overall conditions of the course.
The Trophy Club of Apalachee
Played On 06/24/2018Hot day and slow play
I've played this course several times and it is in the best condition yet because of all the spring and summer rains. I played starting at 4 p.m. on a Sunday and didn't expect the pace of play to be so slow at that time of day. Also the water coolers were out of water and that was irritating to say the least on such a hot 94 degree day. However the fairways are nice, the greens are smooth and true, but the rough is so high in places that you can lose your ball in the first cut.. Overall a good course and I will be back.
The Chimneys Golf Course
Played On 05/26/2018Chimney's in excellent shape
We teed off at 12:50 and the course was full but not many people in line to tee off. #1 requires a challenging placement of tee shot, I pulled left into the sand trap, and ended up with double bogey. After that 8 straight pars for a 38. Fairways were pristine, and greens soft and a bit slow, but to be expected with all the rain we had last week, but they were smooth and putted true! Back nine - Bogey - Birdie - then 5 straight pars - Finished bogey- bogey for another 38 and 76. My only criticism is the sand traps were not groomed, but that's understandable with the rains the previous days... Very nice round of golf.
Ashton Hills Golf Club
Played On 09/09/2016A challenging round
Course was dry and greens were slick and fast. With all the sloping fairways and the undulating and double and triple tiered greens, it was very hard to obtain a decent score, and the pins were in tricked out positions. For example, they were put right at the edge of an upper tier, so any putt that was above the hole would not stop and would go 20 to 40 feet down to the next level if it went past the hole at all. Otherwise the course was in great shape.
Hey "cargohauler" we are sorry to hear that you had issues with some of the pin placements but we are still glad that our great course conditions still made the round enjoyable! We look forward to having you back soon!
Chateau Elan Golf Club - Woodlands Course
Played On 07/05/2016The Woodlands - Aptly named
We played on a day when 2 rounds of thunderstorms came through, so playing conditions were varied throughout the round. The tee boxes are average, the greens are decent, but very pock marked with unfixed ball marks, so at times putting is affected. The fairways are excellent, probably the best I've seen on a public course, very well trimmed and very nice to play the ball "down" on most shots. We played white tees, to more enjoy the approach shots and the putting, vs trying to keep it on the narrow fairways. It is worth the price, but could use more greens work.
Thank you for your review and feedback. We are happy to have you playing on our course and hope you come back for another round soon!
The Hooch Golf Club
Played On 02/12/2016Slop golf at the Hooch
The one fit day for golf and my son and I decided a quick 18 at the Hooch in the middle of the day would be a nice way to spend part of his birthday. We got a tee time and showed up early, hit some warm up balls, got the cart and were informed only the back nine was open, they were "spraying" the front nine. This was not disclosed ahead of time or we would never have gone there. The starter said to check back after first nine played to see if front was open. After we played 9 we saw a huge crowd back on #10 - as everyone finishing and just starting was now trying to tee off. We went back and informed the starter who replied, sorry, front nine is closed, nothing I can do... So we waited maybe 45 minutes to tee off and took over 5 hours to play this "executive course" Poor management... Course is built on a river flood plain, was sloppy wet, and greens are getting very rough. Won't go back again even though course is only 2 miles from home.
Collins Hill Golf Club
Played On 01/30/2016Just an average winter golf experience
Decided to try this course as haven't played it in years. Didn't expect great conditions, as a very wet winter has caused many courses to suffer. However, no having sand in bunkers is inexcusable. It seems they have switched front nine and back nine, but signage is messed up and hard to know if you are playing the right holes. Finally, there was a "frost delay" and a huge crowd waiting to tee off when we arrived, and they didn't even have enough keys for the carts. Not well organized at all. A positive was that the greens were very puttable, and probably the best part of the course.
cargohauler,
We do apologize about the frost delay. Unfortunately this backs up tee times for hours, and we hope for warmer weather soon. We are glad you enjoyed the greens and hope you come back during a dryer time to see the best of Collins Hill.
Thanks,
Collins Hill Management
Country Club of Gwinnett
Played On 10/13/2015Gwinnett Country Club - nice layout and good value
The course is in excellent condition right now, the recent rains have made the fairways perfect and the greens are smooth and not as hard as usual, so the ball held well. The only negative is the sand traps could use more sand and need to be better maintained, but otherwise a nice test of golf and very enjoyable
Fantastic! We're thrilled that you enjoyed our course and that our conditions met your expectations. We appreciate your review and we can't wait to have you back again soon at Country Club of Gwinnett!
