Desert Dunes Golf Course
Played On 07/01/2018One of My Favorite RTJ Courses
Desert Dunes is a beautiful RTJ designed course near Desert Hot Springs and one of my favorite challenging and scenic courses. That being said one is aware the wind velocity will have a major impact on whether you enjoy your round... or not... on any given day. This day the wind was only "moderate" or doable. HOWEVER , the condition of the course was (sad to say) almost appalling. It looked like it hadn't seen ANY water in Days. Lots of bare patches in the fairways and the greens were dry, bumpy, with lots of "bare patches" Under the present conditions I will not play this "favorite " course of mine again until conditions improve...dramatically!
Great course...lousy condition
What a shame ! The course is both challenging and scenic (for a single digit Hcp) . The price was great but the condition of the course would not want me to come back. I'm not just talking the dry conditions. It seems that there is no maintenance done at all on the course.,
Shadow Mountain Golf Club
Played On 07/15/2015a little gem , even in the summer
The good news: an nice old style course with fairly wide fairways with lots of mature shade trees throughout. The course is "only 6000 or so from the back tees but it does require a good shot selection and can be troublesome with inaccurate shots. Pace of play is outstanding. Can't beat the price around $20.00. The only downside was the putting greens ,several of which are pretty dried out and crusty in spots but not that bad for mid summer .
Date Palm Country Club
Played On 09/23/2014A Good Short Game Challenge
Playing Date Palm CC brought back a bit of nostalgia for the old style courses of my youth. Lots of large old trees in the fairways, some tight fairway and tee shots requiring shaping shots or at least hitting to certain areas of the green. NO railroad ties, buried elephants, or 440 yd par 4's here. A very relaxing round and a good test for your short game and tee shot accuracy .
Course was in pretty good shape for this time of year . Greens ran a little slower than they looked
Mission Hills - Gary Player Course
Played On 08/16/2014Great, scenic course...BUT...
The Gary Player course is one of our group's favorite golf courses. Scenic, wide fairways, nice smooth greens without undue humps & bumps. Challenging but fair and the the tees can be played fairly to any handicap. HOWEVER this last date I had two major complaints. First , the rough. It may have only been 2-3 inches deep but as soon as the ball rolled an inch into the fairway rough it disappeared. Probably lost 4 balls no more than a foot into the rough. Second was the green speed. Although they rolled nice ,just couldn't force myself to hit putts hard enough to reach the hole. They rolled smooth but were deceptively slow.
The Golf Now price was right though
Dear PJDYER,
Thank you very much for reviewing our facility. I am happy to hear that you enjoy the golf course! We appreciate your business.
As for the issues with the rough and greens, I apologize. We are currently working to provide a better playing surface for the season. Growing the rough slightly longer right now will create a nice layer of dormant Bermuda Grass during the season in the rough. We are currently working on getting the rough to a manageable height to eliminate losing golf balls.
The greens just came out of their second aerification and green speed is increasing on a daily basis. This preventative maintenance will provide great golf course conditions this season.
Have a nice day and we look forward to seeing you again!

Cathedral Canyon Golf Club
Played On 10/23/2013This is NOT a Pete Dye dynamic , well manicured course BUT it is a good round of moderately challenging golf at a reasonable price
The fairways are in pretty good shape some areas still need a little time for the reseeding to take full effect. The rough is still challenging but was being cut down some as we were playing. The greens are relatively smooth & receptive but a bit slow that takes some getting used to. Overall a decent round of golf at a surprisingly traditional, picturesque golf course and one of the best bargains in the Valley...especially at this time of year. Pace of play could improve a bit in the mornings though!
Palms at Marriott's Desert Springs Resort
Played On 9/11/2013A picturesque enjoyable round
At this time of year the Palm Course is in great shape. Rough and fairways were both cut and well maintained and the greens were rolling great with little sand and bumps interference.
Got a outstanding price for round and the beauty of the course was well worth it. lots of open fairways...not to difficult but still has some challenges. Well worth the price of admission
Laguna Seca Golf Club
Played On 2/3/2013The course was a beautiful Trent Jones collaboration. No tricks, it just flows naturally with the terrain. Classic old school
The course itself was not difficult except for maybe 3 holes. A classic style golf course here...no railroad ties or manufactured hazards. An enjoyable round except the greens were pretty bumpy and not rolling consistently. The value was great for a Sunday play. I definitely would return. There are more than a few holes that local knowledge would definitely be helpful.
