McNary Golf Club
Played On 05/13/2016The Houses Are an Optical Illusion
This course is not really as "narrow" as others make it out to be. Sure there are a lot of holes lined with houses on both sides, but most of those holes provide plenty of room from side to side for errant tee shots to still land in play. The yardage overall is also fairly short. This allowed me to keep my driver in the bag in favor of shorter more accurate clubs.
The greens run true and they normally have ability to hold iron/wedge shots better, but they seemed to be firmer than I had remembered. Keep this in mind when hitting out of the rough and other areas where you will not be able to generate a lot of spin.
All in all, I really enjoy playing McNary Golf Club and I highly recommend this course to anyone in the area. They also have pretty good food in the restaurant as well (especially happy hour).

Tried to play here end of March. With the exception of part of Hole 1, the fairways hadn't been mowed in long time. The majority of the ground was muddy with a lot of standing water scattered about. The greens were slow like shag carpet. Walked off course after 2 holes. It's actually a fun little 9-hole course when the conditions are right. I will be back in the summer when this course plays better!
Spring Hill Golf Club at Albany Golf & Event Center
Played On 10/08/2015Fast pace and well manicured, but...
...the course was abnormally wet (fairways, rough, and greens all soft). I am not sure why because it hasn't rained much at all in the last several months. I had several plugged balls throughout the round -- good thing for "winter" rules. Overall, Spring Hill Country Club is a fun course with a great layout and a must play if you're in/near Albany...especially if they are offering more HOT DEALS!

If you like challenging tee shots with blind landing areas and tricky greens with sneaky subtle breaks, then this course is for you! It definitely helps to play this course a few times before knowing all of the intricacies. But beware of the back nine bottleneck that is created on 12-15 as you can expect a long wait on each of those holes (even on an average weekday). This absolutely ruined our round having to slow down and take 30+ minutes per hole down the stretch. And the "Player Assistant" did nothing to help groups move along quicker...just drove around real slow and waved at people? Also, make sure to call ahead and ask if they have sanded the greens -- this made the short game a bit unnatural feeling with the touch around the greens. Overall, this is a fun course to play and I will definitely be teeing it up here again!
